Dark Fired Kentucky is another varietal of fire-cured tobacco, but unlike Latakia, which is smoked over smoldering softwoods, Kentucky is cured over hardwood fires for 14-16 days. Similar to smoking a brisket, this process imbues the leaf with a deep, woody, mesquite flavor, turning it a rich, dark shade of brown. On this episode of Tobacco Selections, Jeremy takes a closer look at the fire-cured leaf we use, discussing everything from its curing process to its individual tasting notes. Tune in for more information about Dark Fired Kentucky, plus tips on home blending and some recommendations from Jeremy's personal cellar.
