In 1970 I moved into an isolated old farm house in Cornwall UK. it had no electricity and for the first five years, it was oil lamps, candles , stove and log fires. Looking back, it was the happiest time in my life.

OHHH Dr. I absolutely LOVE Cowboy Coffee from the Country Squire. Truly one of my favorites, and one that I still to this day have a hard time believing that's not an aromatic. I’m from Clarksville, TN. There’s nothing like the smell of tobacco being fired in the Fall. I agree - it’s taken me time to appreciate the flavor, but the smell of it being cured is sublime. Recently, I enjoyed both of C&D’s Maestro Allegro and Sinfonia blends. They both feature and showcase DFK. Happy piping!

there are so many good dfk blends I personally like it as a condiment leaf.... got some mconnels scottish cake in the mail which I am excited to try and believe it has dfk in it

They sound like some wonderful Blends. St Bruno Flake has always been popular here in The UK but I have not smoked it for a few years now. I have just opened a tin of Germain's special latakia flake that was recommended to me and I have found it to be a wonderful and satisfying smoke. I have really gotten into Dark Fire Kentucky blends myself, especially with Virginias and Perique. I have enjoyed Hearth and Home El Nino & now trying Cornell & Diehl Bluegrass.

Back in the day my grandfather had a tobacco allotment and grew his share on the farm. I remember well the smell of the fresh tobacco being harvested and hung in the barn. The smokiness and sweet smell of the curing tobacco hanging to dry is still something I hunt for in a blend. I believe what he grew was mostly burley. Funny enough when I opened up a tub of Prince Albert, it seemed just like what I remember that smell to be, a mix of smoke and sweet, with a little of that late summer hay drying in the loft. Prince may not be the fanciest but it will always have a spot in my cellar. I really want to try some dark fired to see if it is as good as I hope.

Wow, great list. St Bruno is my all time favorite blend. I also really like sansepolcro, HH Bold Kentucky and Rattrays Hal P the Wynd. I’ll definitely pick up some of your pipe cottage blend too.

I've discovered that I enjoy most blends that don't have Virginias in them. I have scooted over to primarily smoking my cob Churchwardens, and the Virginia's add a sauerkraut flavor to my cob smoking experience. If the Virginia has a minor presence, that's alright, but if the blend is Virginia forward, I'll probably skip it.

we really need to prevent tobacco farming from dying. The govt is hell-bent on destroying tobacco since it's not their leaf of choice (can't control people like you can with weed). Just finished a bowl of Mac Baren Old Dark Fired myself actually, one of my favorite blends altogether. I find it's great for bbqing as well since it has almost a bbq sauce quality to it.

My first intro to DFK was Kingsfoil by Country Squire. I got it with their Middle Earth sampler. Now they've had to change the name to King's Highway, but it's just as delicious, kinda reminds me of Coca-Cola.

New pipe smoker here, I’ve been smoking the pretty new C&D Toscano “Maestro Allegro” lately and loving it. Really liking the Dark Fired Kentucky, it’s the 1st blend I’ve had with it. Have you tried it yet and any thoughts on it?

I have a question for you, I am new to this wonderful world of pipe smoking. I have been looking around and almost overwhelmed with where to buy some tobacco for a nice smoke. Didn’t know if you might have any input on this matter

I loved the two Macbaren HH flakes, Bold Kentucky and Old Dark Fired but unfortunately they pulled in from sale over here in the UK. Now all they've got are bland Danish-style aromatics. I would have bought at least 10 tins of each if i'd have known what was going to happen. I recently discovered two pretty good substitutes though, Peterson's Irish Flake and Gawith's 1792 Flake, so that's something.

Connecticut has very few Tobacco left from what I can see. The old cigar companies are out of business. They are lower end machine rolled, but were good.

MacBaren HH line is some of my favorites.

I like solanis dfk and sansapolcro although a good blend is not true kentucky leaf
