You have lost your mind!!! The original architect of the Jamiroquai sound was "Nick Van Gelder" (original Jamiroquai Drummer); "he" was responsible for the UNAPOLOGETIC funkiness of the bass line on R.O.T.S.C. (Stuart had only been playing base for 2.5 - 3yrs by the time he'd mastered that bass line). Nick and Jay's falling out before the second album was the first instance of Jay hogging the credits for album production; I had a brief email string asking Nick about what went down and he basically said that Stuart had picked up on his "vibe" and pretty much was a "caretaker" of the Jamiroquai's sound. You could tell the original Jamiroquai sound was gone by the time Nick Fyffe came in; the sound had "completely changed!" Only people who picked up on Jamiroquai "AFTER" the release of R.O.T.S.C. think the sound never changed... That's like saying the Doobie brothers still sounded the same after Michael McDonald took lead or "Chicago" never changed sound after the death of Terry Katz in 1977... The current Jamiroquai lineup sounds like a "tribute band" when songs from the first 3 cd's are played (and I bought them when they first came out). As much as I "loved" the group, the "Jamiroquai sound" left when zender left, and Jay decided to not hang on to it. Pity, because that is what established them. Sure some of the later stuff with Fyffe and Turner had groove to it, but is just never had that "flavor" on the bass the way you could feel it when zender was slapping the strings... But to each his own... :-)

@@KRAZEEIZATION In my opinion: after they are gone, the band lacked of ingenuity. The first 4 albums were a bomb!

@@machytka True. Even Travelling Without Moving which was far more commercial than the complexities of the first two is an incredible achievement. I think Synkronized lacks the brilliance of it. I’ve all the albums but to be honest the post 1996 stuff lacks that real band presence. Light Dust and Automaton are boring and it’s hard to listen to them all the way through.

You are right, the first two are the best. Then, they were a band, afterwards they became a produced utility. But you have to admit, that on album three and four they are great songs with originality. From a social, psychological perspective, it’s my impression, that all became a one-man tyranny show. But maybe my judgment is too superficial.

Toby Smith very sadly passed away 3.5 years ago. RIP Toby.
