Jim Lee is great, but people really need to look at Todd McFarlane for Comic book advice. He has so much love and knowledge in comics.

Todd really loved Rutabaga-Man back in the 90's
@RockandrollNegro
@RockandrollNegro Жыл бұрын
Legend has it that the industry imploded in the nineties due to the hype surrounding Rutabaga Man Issue 75, the "Death Of Rutabaga Man." That issue sold well, as did the follow up, "Funeral For A Vegetable." But then retailers ended up ordering way too many copies of the "Return of Rutabaga Man." Then they dragged things out by having four different Rutabaga Men in "Reign of the Rutabaga Men" and none of them ended up being the real Rutabaga Man. That was personally when I stopped reading.

I don't see anyone leaving Marvel or DC these days to start their own comic book company! Today it would cost millions! Tod had to be 26 years old when he filmed this amazing art lesson! Today he has to be approaching 50!

this is such timeless advice the biggest change now is that you can't dogpile editors for a job. social media and the internet kinda ruined that since it's so easy to send your work now, you'll just end up getting buried and ghosted if you pester them too much. 3:59 bookmarking
@Goggalor1990
@Goggalor1990 3 жыл бұрын
Yes! I keep saying this, that the way Todd keeps telling people he got a job at Marvel is just not realistic in today's publishing world. You try to send them a ton of packages and stuff it's all going in the trash before anyone even opens it.
@michaelsimkins7078
@michaelsimkins7078 2 жыл бұрын
That sounds like a assumption saramations! How do you KNOW that for SURE? I myself am trying to get into the Comic Book Industry, but I'll send my samples to everyone except Marvel and DC! Give me some up-to-date facts to correct that assumption of yours or SHUT THE FUCK UP!

23:00 I first saw this a few years ago and got really pissed off because Todd never even let the lil dude ask a question. This whole panel was shamelessly used to persuade parents that comics aren't bad for kids. Don't get me wrong, I totally agree with every point he made, but it could've been executed a little better. I think Rob should've held that panel because he is more relatable and presentable. Todd just came off and sometimes still comes off as a used car salesman, but he is intelligent...I will give him that!

I don’t agree that Todd McFarlane presents like a “used car salesman,” but I agree those interviews were less about the kids and more for their parents.

These videos were produced by Stan Lee, and he encouraged the same hucksterism in these videos that he always projected. "Don't get too technical," Stan told Whilce Portacio. "If they want to learn how to do a technical job, they can plunk down another $19.99 for _How To Draw Comics The Marvel Way_ and be the next Buscema."

Lol 22:00😆 I like Spawn BECAUSE of the environments and world details. It's called story telling, and not all of us liked the cop drama, the "action", blood, guts, & satanic shit Todd forgets some kids back then liked Spawn because the comicbook paper was fantastic and wouldn't crap out- like pages rip, paper so weak it breaks off the spine like marvel & dc back then. I just liked the quality of the overall product as a kid, the stories were "mature" & the world looked lived in, especially the back alleys.

Seeing a comic creator giving a lecture to a room full of eager young kids is really how you know this is from a bygone age. Modern American comics are so dull and static, all the kids moved on to manga 20 years ago and never looked back.
