Jose Carlos Rivera Jr. lack of fundamentals like anatomy, perspective, composition, rule of thirds, golden ratio and stuff will get you flack, this mostly about Leifeld's artwork. Not all of it but still,I'd suggest look his stuff up and just simply try to do the poses or compare the anatomy to real life, you'll physically feel why people give him flack. It hilarious when Jim came in to school anatomy. Also cool to see the others humble and honest.

People can complain about Liefeld all they want, but keep in mind that he was accepted in a time when publishers did not just allow anyone to join the industry.

THANK YOU! THE ESSENCE OF CREATING ART-you guys nailed it, enable it! I mean we all have comic artists-and artists in general-we know and love, but their works are mainly shown as finished, the awe-inspiring products of their prodigious talent that somehow arrived on earth; their methods and strokes are not broken down like they are here. It is SO GREAT to get down to the actual nuts-n-bolts, like you're so blessedly generously doing, of how to start making art, giving to us the wonderful gift of being able to start CREATING. This enabling is really important, everybody who does art knows this. Gratefully, thanks again So Much!

They already had image comics planned up. Secretly between them. They kept dropping hints and flat out saying "image comics" a few times. This was filmed in 91 and they all quit and officially formed image comics in 92. They somehow all got onto this show and took the money from it and funded image.

This video is so fascinating. Seeing Todd and Rob, artists I never cared for, talking about the process and showing examples is great. I write, I don't draw, but it's still educational to see artists working.

i like how liedfeld and mcfarlane talk about random lines they add. EVERYONE seems to complain that they do that. but they themselves say you really shouldnt do it. i always saw it as an artistic expression..like how they described. and liefeld could draw very well..i think some of his off drawings were done on purpose. people hate jim lee for the same reason. dunno why. all their art is amazing and VERY technical. great upload btw thanks so much for it!

This is old but i would love to watch this over and over.. Jim - when it comes to realistic anatomy is by far the best, Whilce: on the other hand has a combination of realistic and contained exaggerations on his artworks but still the best, Tob is what i call a sexy type curvaceous artist, Rob made me a fan when i first had my Image comics things look differently comparing to my collection of Marvels and Dcs - but that was back then when i haven't fully understood how the anatomy works, yet i still love the inks though he sucks he still have a special place in my heart.

Jim Lee is one of my favorite artists. He got me into reading X-Men comics that were drawn by him. In fact, I'm learning to draw characters in his style (most notably Jane Lane).

Todd pointing at the screen and saying, you are going to be a great color, pencil, inker I guarantee it. That would of motivated the hell put of me as a kid. It would of been a hell of a lot better than nothing but if you are one those that are alienated than it wouldnt matter either way. You can make the greatest graphic novel ever and it wouldnt sell, it wouldnt even get published because its not the world for you.

Wow, this is quite the time capsule! All these guys are so young and I like how honest and real they are about the art and the industry. It makes this video very fun and still educational. Is this after they left Marvel comics? Dang, those references they make to image comics is bold considering how generous Stan Lee was to have them on his show; though, I suppose, not surprising considering their young age. An older comics creator may have shown more tact. Though I'm sure Comic Book Greats wasn't necessarily Marvel centric.

Todd was the only one not working for Marvel at this time. He quit with SM 16 just before this was filmed. The others were still doing work for Marvel, including Larsen on ASM and Valentino on GotG, but it wasn't long before each of them were essentially "fired" from their Marvel work for starting up Image, and not allowed to wrap up any storylines they wanted to complete.

So awesome... I wish there was enough time and lawns in my youth to provide not only the supplies and time I needed to do what I had done, but to also afford the inspiring comics and these products(I think I remember the vhs's being like $50-100 or in even more expensive sets) and trips to comic conventions(which were not what they are now, I remind you[thank God, expense wise]))... Man, how I wish there was youtube when I was in my teens. That said, no time like the present. Thanks for sharing, everyone. This is so helpful and inspiring.
