I'm 27 and was not even close to alive at this time but I can feel this song and it brings me all sorts of emotional fluctuations. Tears and smiles at the same time. Hurt and joy.

Erykah Badu and Andre 3000 have their own duet version of this, too. The second half of the song starts the melody.
I'm on board with "Bang the Drum ". Love Todd.. This is my tear jerker song. Thanks!

It happens to be an absolute gem of a song. The arrangement is great- the organ, piano, sax, backup voices etc is just gorgeous.

A much as I truely love the Isleys, I am a purist. Give me Todd's version. The Isleys did the song with respect, as they do will all of their remakes.

Play any song from the “Something/Anything?”album and also “Sometimes I Don’t Know What to Feel” from “A Wizard, A True Star.” Todd also produced a lot of records including “War Babies,” the debut album of Hall & Oates.

Jamal, I loved when you said “ so it’s gonna be that type of call, huh?” This song is so beautifully played, sung and written. Todd is such an underrated artist.

Jamel, I don't see this song as Rundgren being a "user." In fact quite the opposite. To me it's about love that's easy and gentle, not demanding or controlling.

Jamal, one of my absolutely favorite Daryl's House is the one where he went to Hawaii to Rundgrens House and the duos they sing together are absolutely gorgeous.

He wrote this in high school when his first love stopped talking to him, because her parents forbid them from dating. She stopped taking his calls, and disappeared from his life. One of my all time favorite songs.

I saw him walk on stage turn on a reel to reel and sing with it for over an hour (70s). He was and is a genius. Watch Daryl at his house in Hawaii, it’s beautiful!
