This album got me through the latter portion of my freshman year & all of my sophmore year of high school, and, simply put, is one of The Greatest Albums Ever Made on Planet Earth.....just as A Wizard, A True Star got me through the latter portion of 8th grade & all of my Freshman year the year previous. Only true Todd fans can ever understand how epic & important those two albums are to a young person.

He's never afraid to put his heart on his sleeve is he? A lot of guys saw the talent and shut up about the bleeding heart stuff. He can basically do whatever he wants. This is his appeal. He does do whatever he wants and that's an extremely rare opportunity even once in life, and he's had a lot of it. Amazing.

Shit! I just now woke from a dream where I was singing this song to a lost love and in my partially wakeful state, I couldn't place the song at first. I just had to look it up and give it a couple listens. I love this song and my appreciation for it continues to grow. It's one of my favs. I first saw Todd during the "Back to the Bars" tour in '78 at the Bayou in Georgetown, Wash., D.C. I only really knew Todd from TV ads where "Hello It's Me" was included on hits compilation releases. Being only 17, I had to borrow my 25 yr old college roommate's I.D. to get into the venue. Kasim, Roger and Willie were backing Todd up at this stop on the tour. My friends and I were so totally blown away after seeing the early set, that we immediately bought tickets off a sidewalk scalper and went right back in and caught the late set, seeing Todd twice in the same night at the peak of his powers/prowess (a peak which extended for a long while).

There's something about TR and Eno/Manzanera and King Crimson that form a trans-Atlantic triangle. TR wasn't Velvet-U/Warholian, wasn't West Coast, certainly wasn't Nashville Skyline, but perhaps an American version of Eno/Manzanera/KC -- minus the European Dadaism and Schoenberg-Ligeti those Brits always hinted at. Instead, Todd did his own psychedelic. The Brits didn't have our vast suburbs, nor our space program, nor our huge media running shows like the Jetsons, Star Trek, Lost in Space, Twilight Zone, Jonny Quest, etc. Rather than grim and august and disturbing, TR did wacky-playful. And the studio production of this album rivals what Eno did.

Like a poignant musical representation of ADHD, which Todd has openly identified with having. Or maybe it's just isolation/alienation in general, but damn, ouch... Then of course one would understand the star crowned ones and the law.
