This is a great question, and I'll give you some insight on who's been successful with me and why. I'll let you know what baits have the most success in the back of the boat. You only have limited amounts of tackle so let's bring the thing you need and leave the rest at home.

Howdy bro. Telling secrets is a bunch of crap!!! I practice with a boater and I have been in tournaments when my boater draw had no idea what to do or where to go. Not once did I ever give up another boaters stuff. I would rather zero than blow my friends or other boaters hard work. That being said, I’ve out fished those guys in most cases. Peace and God Bless bro.

That information was just as good if not better than your lure or technique videos. Those are questions I never thought to ask or have been asked. Keep dropping the knowledge. Awesome channel

I fished in the past as coangler and my 2 cents is shake hands with the boater don't ask questions before the tournament and always hand the boater gas money $50 will usually make most happy and that usually breaks the ice and the boater will usually offer the info you need. If not you will know when you get to the spot, be prepared.

Good stuff again Todd. I am sure being a co-angler in a tourney would be really difficult. You confirmed what I would have rigged for the most part... Carolina, Shaky head, spinnerbait, jig, drop shot/wacky rig. That is about what I would throw anyway unless they are on a crankbait bite. Look forward to hearing what you have to say about a co with the boater using FFS. I am going to guess that will depend on where and how he is catching them.

I fished as a co in a BFL when I was a kid and my boater told me bring all the deep cranks you got and pack light because we got a long run. He flipped all day and won. All I had was deep cranks ha

Great video Todd. I agree with you, I’ve only been a co angler once and I didn’t ask the right question. I fish a lot faster than he did but I guess you could say the water we covered was covered well. I was fishing a swim jig behind him and caught a few fish he got kinda aggravated. Needless to say I’ve not been a co angler since. I hear you talking about sight fishing a lot. That’s something I just don’t have much success with. You ever want to do a guide trip and sight fish sign me up. I love watching fish in the water just can’t seem to catch them very often. Thanks for all you help over the years.

Todd your spot on with the advice when confronted with a boater sight fishing, I just wish I would have had that advice 20years ago when I was fishing the All-American, I might have done a little better.😀

Been fishing the BFL's, a Toyota Series and a few Opens as a Co-angler for a few years now. It has been a process to finding what works for me about what to bring and what I think I need and trust me it has been a trial-and-error deal. Rods I bring 6 most of the time. 1 is a c-rig rod and another is a drop shot rod and that is what they are only used for. That leaves me 4 rods for other things. I have a 6'9 spinning rod for my Senko/Neko rig, a 6'10" Med extra fast bait caster with 30 lbs braid for topwater, jerkbait, small cranks, etc. 7' mh fast bait caster all around spooled with 14 to 15lbs test. and a 7'3" H moderate fast for mid to deep cranks, spinnerbaits, chatter baits, frogs and jigs. Invest in a rod mule to keep your rods organized throughout the day. Find a good fishing backpack that fits your needs (I am on number 5 and I think I finally found one that works) I always have 2 spare baitcasting reels one with 10 to 12 lbs test fluro and one with 50 to 65 lbs braid. Typically, that will cover what I need and the rod selection will change a little depending on the lake and or time of the year. As an added note last year I have added a 7'2" MH spinning rod for the free rig and I had a good amount of success flipping, pitching, shallow deep around all types of cover catching fish. I just don't bring my c-rig rod and my 7'3" H gets the nod That is my system that works for me.

Great video! I personally like guys who fish fast because of what you said they leave stuff open especially flipping. The worst for a co angler is a boater who poles down on a tree and flips. Usually what I asks is are we fishing grass or structure and then I follow up with you want a sandwich for lunch. I’m gonna do my thing and figure it out as I go. I bring alittle bit of everything to cover my bases and just adjust as needed

One thing I think about is the tackle side. How much is too much and has that ever been an issue with one of your co-anglers.

Todd The problem with today’s society is they over analyze everything. Mostly because of social media. One example is the color of a text message and not allowing someone into a group text because the text is the wrong color. Get over it. For real. Too many soft skin people in our society today. Keep doing what you do because it’s fantastic. Brett

I would like to know what you say and recommend to your coangler when you are fishing docks, specifically the backsides of docks when the fish are spawning. I once had KVD coming down the bank at full throttle and nosing his boat between sets of docks and making one cast left and one cast right, behind the dock then full throttle back out and on to the next. I held up my hands at the coangler who was not fishing and he just went thumbs down and shook his head. He blanked.

2 questions…….Does a boater choose to have co-anglers or by fishing in a tourney do they just mandate that you have one? Also, is the boater compensated in any way by the tourney?
@coygregg861
@coygregg861 6 ай бұрын
BFL's require them not the anglers choice. It's like two separate tourneys they are there to keep the pro's honest. I love doing it you can learn a lot. They don't get compensated by the tourney the co-angler usually gives them some gas money.
@jjh31

Thanks. I guess having a co-angler can either be a good experience or a bad one and potentially create future animosity in a boater. Likewise for the co-angler. Probably best that co-anglers approach it like meeting the in-laws for the 1st time😂. Best behavior and don’t be a turd.
