Oh wow brings back so many memories from my childhood. I was the only kid on my block that had a portable 8 track player. It separated and it had 2 speakers. Wish I kept it....great job 🥰

I’m glad you’re doing electronics fun again. That’s my kind of fun!!

True, most of my subs mostly like the electronics videos. Me too but so many times I just want to get an electronics project done. Adding the video setup, shooting, editing and publishing takes a 1 hour projects and makes it a 6 hour job. But it is fun to share too. Thanks for watching.

Todd Harrison Here’s a compromise: I’ll come down to Arizona and be your electronics project lackey. I’ll run to the store, get you solder, parts, etc., move cameras, set up shots, and do all of the post on the videos. Maybe even bring some vintage computers from the electronics recycler I help run. :-) ... if these Minnesota blizzards ever stop!

Back in the early 1980s, I worked sales in the "Radio & Television" department of an Alexander's Department Store. TBH, we probably sold that exact player at one time or another. It was an interesting era from a music player standpoint in that it was the last gasp of the 8-Track and the beginning of the era of Walkman-type players (with the CD and portable CD players looming on the horizon). We used to get some really oddball players from companies in Hong Kong and South Korea. I've always wondered whether, if the 8-track had hung in a little longer or the Walkman had come out a bit earlier, we would have seen an "8-Man".

I was really expecting some video of you actually at the mall, that would have been a hoot! TNX for sharing Todd...

I really wanted to do that but in the end I couldn't get my son to take the video. He wasn't embarrassed about the 8 track but was too worried about shooting video at the mall thinking the mall cops would get mad. I didn't think it would matter but I would setup a tripod and do it myself either :(

Thanks! No I'm going to shave! This trim takes soooo much time to keep up, it's a crazy ton of work. Maybe start the Santa beard again in October.

Reminds me of when I modded my 1970s tape drive with a tape motor control and fixed it. Have had to do more restoration work as I have currently lent it to Aiden along with my Acorn Electron for him to play with.

This is exactly what I was looking for! I also have a missing strap and will be using your mod measurements to make one. :) I ordered the same 1/8-inch socket you used for the headphone mod. Because I'm not an electronics guy, I can see where the wires are soldered on the socket, but I'm not sure where the wires end up on the radio end? It looks like you might have spliced your red wire to the orange one on the radio going to the speaker? But where do the 2 yellow wires end up, please?

Any recomendations on a decent portable 8-Track. A decent brand name to look for on ebay or other on line. I have about 8-Track 75 tapes (some sealed). Wayne

Not really. Just look for known working and tested by somebody that seem to have a history of working on, repairing and refurbishing 8 track players.

Hey there, I'm researching for a screenplay set in 1971, during the conflict in Vietnam. One of the characters (peace-loving hippie), carries one of these into combat . . . would it have been possible to have done the headphone jack mod in 1971? Regards, Sam
@ToddFun
@ToddFun 5 жыл бұрын
It would have been very possible. I’m sure some models would have had the headphone jack from the factory.

@@ToddFun thanks so much! Just linked your video to a friend (he's a mix engineer and builds electronic music equipment as his job), and he said much the same. Awesome to know I'm not breaking the realms of realism! Love your mod by the way, I'm keen to get one and try this out - just be a total hipster hahah!

Say now there is a cool mods. I could put in the guts from one of those small Bluetooth controlled speakers and run Pandora from my phone or songs from the internal SD card. Then add a switch to turn on/off the 8 track or BT and add some BT ear buds. There is a ton of room so why not? HA

Kind of hoping so. ;) Maybe I can get my daughter to go to the mall with me and take some footage someday and I can post it. I'll try mostly to see what the kids think. Frankly in today's freaky world I might not look at all out of place with an 8 track unless I put hula hoops in my ears, my pants around my ankles, rings in my noise and maybe carry a bucket of tide pods. That might get me at least noticed if I add the 8 track player. HA.
