very helpful … but at least on my clock you do NOT need to take the chains apart or open the links to refeed the chains over the sprockets … if that were necessary then the chains would never have come off in the first place

I do have some questions. My clock weight barrel 2 is 8.4 lbs, and one is 13.4 lbs. If I put 13.4 pounds in the chime, it works, but 8.4 pounds does not work in the clock mechanism. But if I put 13.4 pounds in the clock mechanism, it works. How can I fix this problem? Please help.

Todd, what are your thoughts on soaking the entire mechanism in a tub of petrol as part of the cleaning process? And using 0W-30 synthetic engine oil, or even shaver oil?

I've had bent steel rims and the tire shop was able to repair it I don't know how they did it but I'm assuming they just bent it into it's normal shape.

It would've been nice if you had shown the middle chain install from the side. At least a still shot of it.

Chiming in on an 8 year old video... I had quite a few finger warts about 15 years ago. I managed to remove them myself by heating up a pocket knife with a lighter (red hot!!) and putting the flat of the blade on the warts. My fingers blistered up quite badly, I had to put bandaids on my fingers (I chuckled at your choice of music for this reason.) Up to 2 weeks later, my fingers had healed and I've had absolutely no issues with warts ever since. You don't need a soldering iron, kids. Just put a red hot blade on em and it'll do the trick

This is exactly what I was looking for! I also have a missing strap and will be using your mod measurements to make one. :) I ordered the same 1/8-inch socket you used for the headphone mod. Because I'm not an electronics guy, I can see where the wires are soldered on the socket, but I'm not sure where the wires end up on the radio end? It looks like you might have spliced your red wire to the orange one on the radio going to the speaker? But where do the 2 yellow wires end up, please?

If you’re here in 2024 like me. I used I 1/2 drill bit to increase the diameter of the housing holes and was able to use a magnetic extension with a T25 bit on those housing torx screws 2:16

Thank you so much for creating these amazing videos! I have been given a grandfather clock that my great grandfather built, so it's been amazing to have it running again! Do you have any tips on how to get the hour to chime on the hour and not a minute past? Each other chime line up perfectly with no issues. It is just the hour that is slightly off. This is the first time it has been running in over 40 years.
@ToddFunАй бұрын
normally the hour hand is just press fit. When it chimes take off the minute hand and pull off the hour hand and press it back on on the hour. if it’s the minute hand that is off take it off and use a pliers to gently turn the nut on the back of the minute hand to correct pointer. the nut is normal pressed into a rotatable bracket if some pressure is used with a pliers. but if you say it’s ok pointing at 15,30,45 the that process will mess things up.
@celiastevens1829Ай бұрын
I understand and I may just leave it then. It is the minute hand that is a minute past before it chimes the full hour. Your videos have been a great help! I'm working on cleaning up and setting up a second movement that needs some care. This has been so fun and rewarding to do.

I have read about using a 50/50 rinse of xylene and mineral spirits sometime after the soak/wash. Is that necessary? Is it before the water, or instead of the water? I wondering about the fumes and heat source.

Soaking the entire movement in Mineral Spirits for a couple hours is very effective for dissolving the dried oil in the pivots/bushings. Then rinse the movement with hot tap water.

I have a question. I know this is an old video but it was helpful. Installed distributor on 2001 Dodge Ram 5.2L. Lined everything up perfectly, started it up first time and it starts up perfect, however when I go to shut off the truck, and go to restart, now it cranks with no start. I’m on aftermarket distributor number 2, made sure hold down plate and bolt were secured properly before starting. What could I possibly be missing here?

Thank you for making these video's. I know it takes a lot of time to make one, yours are very good. I just inherited a large "Sligh" movement grandfather clock. Made in USA around 1987. The gongs would start but not finish (had to push on a gear to get them going again). They were also out of sync. with the hour hand but I figured out how to fix that. The clock's weights were high but the "time" mechanism wouldn't run long. So, I lightly sprayed the whole movement with a little WD-40 and that got the chimes to work perfectly. I noticed a wobble in the pendulum and after studying it (I'm a plumbing contractor) I realized the suspension spring was broken on one of the 2 sides. Went to order a new one by calling the clock store that sold it. When I mentioned WD-40 he literally said (in a nutshell) "Well, you may as well throw the whole thing away and buy a new clock". I've since watched a couple vids that showed someone using WD-40 and said it worked great....he admitted he shouldn't have, prolly should have used something else, but it worked for him. I'm headed to buy some brake cleaning fluid...it's just what i was hoping to use...a spray. The clock has prolly never been serviced (my folks were busy people and half the time it wasn't running) so there's very little visual build up.

I have a Pearl G.F. clock. The right and left weights do not go down, only the center one goes down. Have an idea of what could be wrong? Everything else works.
@ToddFun2 ай бұрын
Are you sure it’s not as simple as the silence switch is engaged? Most such clocks have a lever on the right side of the face plate to switch on silent mode which just stops the gears for the left and right weights but lets the center time gears and weight to move.

I watched your videos to fix my Barwick grandfather clock, it was the low end model, and with your instructions, the clock is working and has been working for the last 4 years. But just yesterday, the chain and weight that works the chimes, especially the hour chime, will not stop chiming, so I removed the left weight (when facing the clock) and stopped the pendulum. Don't know if there is an easy way to fix this problem or if you could direct me to which of the 4 videos that would help me. Thanks.

This video is helpful as I see a bright star off number 8 that I will need to paint in. I am using Home Depot paint chips to match up the blue that I need. Dang, that off blue is hard to match!!
