For many working professionals and graduate students, it is required to score a 26+ in the TOEFL Speaking section order to get a certification or earn admission. And some people take the test over and over again but still score only between a 20-25 in the TOEFL Speaking.
What do you need to do in order to score a 26 in the TOEFL Speaking?
In this video, Josh MacPherson from TST Prep, reviews a product from ETS called the TOEFL Speaking series. This product provides detailed feedback on your speaking delivery for each of the TOEFL Speaking questions.
Watch this video until the end to learn exactly what you need to do to score high in the TOEFL Speaking section.

Hi there, I just received my TOEFL ibt score today. I want to thank Josh for his amazing tips he shared in his videos, especially the templates for speaking section. Just by listening to his tips and using his templates, I scored 30/30 in speaking. I had scored 23/30 in speaking in my previous exam 2 weeks ago. I would suggest all the TOEFL aspirants to watch his videos and practice several times before exam. Thank you so much Josh for sharing helpful tips. You are the best TOEFL teacher I found so far !!!

Without any preparation, I just watched your and "TOEFL Resources" videos for couple of days before the test. Got 28 points in writing. I just want to say THANK YOU! 😄 Just by having solid(good, but not perfect) knowledge of English and watching this videos on KZfaq in order to prepare, YOU WILL get the score you want.

Elena Congratulations! A few questions :) When you are in the speaking/listening section, how that worked for you if you have more people close to you? Did you hear them when they were in the same section? Are they loud? That is something that worries me. To much noise from the other students. Thank you!
@Elena-pk6kw
@Elena-pk6kw 4 жыл бұрын
@@drerikager Hi and thank you! I have to be honest and say that you hear others because you are sitting next to each other and they are talking loud which you can hear. So you have to be really focused. I had problems with that. Especially at the end of the reading section( I had 4 passages, while most of others had 3) so I heard them when they started listening section.. It was hard to focus on reading because sentences are long and hard to reed. And on listening part I also heard others.. And that was the hardest. I couldn't focus. Listening section was the hardest for me, because of the focus. You are listening really long lectures with a lot of informations. But I want also to tell you that this is something we all experience! Try to learn how to focus with noises around you. Try doing toefl practicing test with some type of noises around. I didn't do this unfortunately because I didn't know. When do you have your exam? If you have more questions, just ask :)

Thank you so much, Josh. It's so valuable. Uph agree about casual speech problem. I start to analyze when I think before speaking. It's when you're afraid to use casual phrases or slang words you've picked up from TV or books in your response and you start to slow down. That's a real one problem to be stuck with inventing something ahah while recording. So hard to get rid of it. I mean maybe it's fine in real life, but you got to stay formal but not too much at the same time somehow:)

So... I have to take the TOEFL in less than 12 hours, and what I am doing is I am listening to TST Prep lectures on how to score higher. Considering that I do not have much time left, I am watching the videos at 1.25x speed. This means that I am practicing listening by being an active listener, since I know what I want to understand, and at the same time I am also gaining more knowledge on the other sections. My current best TOEFL score is 100, with 21 points being on listening, and maintaining the others 25+. I am hoping to reach 25 on each section on this TOEFL. I will update you once I receive my TOEFL scores, and we can determine whether this method works haha! Thank you for all these videos TST Prep!

Tomorrow I will be taking my toefl exam, and the scariest section of it for me is speaking, I am a very talkative person I don't have trouble expressing my ideas but the most challenging thing for me in speaking is the time given to prepare the answer I just get stuck and can't come up with ideas knowing that I have literally 15 seconds to prepare an accurate and complete response with 250 words. I just don't know how to overcome this.

Hi, Great tips! I am facing these two challenges: Firstly, I often end up using long sentences and use too many words to describe anything. Secondly, I often tend to re-structure my sentences if I find myself unable to complete it and therefore I end up explaining the same thing in a structurally different manner and this takes up a lot of time. Any tips on how I can overcome these two problems. Thanks :)

Hi Joanna and thank you for your question. I believe there is a limited amount of time you can practice, but there is a new site that uses speech rater technology where you can practice more often, I will put the link below. As far as I know, the automatic writing e rater is not available for the public and the closest thing would be Grammarly's academic essay checker, I will link to both now - My Speaking Score - www.myspeakingscore.com/ - www.grammarly.com/edu

Great question and a tough one to answer. We are current working on practice activities to address this issue, but one way is to learn more about "thought groups". These are groups of words that are typically clustered together. For example, I don't say "according / to / the / professor" I say "according to the professor" in one breath. Practicing some of these popular phrases that you will have to say on test day will help.

And another thing: teacher I know a lot of words and vocabulary but when I want to speak for 45 sec for speaking part of TOEFL I can't use them instead I'd unconsiously use the previous words I'd know before. And even if I want to use them I deplete my time in order to find the innovative word I'm looking for. What would you recommend? Regards, Omid Amjadi

I received my toefl score yesterday. I got a 113 with subscores of Reading/30 Listening/30 Speaking/23 Writing/30. It's obvious the speaking section is the hardest section for me. I believe my main problem is that I always speak over the time limit. Does ETS deduct a lot your speaking score if you speak over the time limit ?
@TSTPrep
@TSTPrep 3 жыл бұрын
The recording stops at a 45 (60) - second mark, and the evaluators don´t hear what you say after that, so yes, if you speak over the time limit, it may negatively affect your score. Still, there are other important aspects of your response that are graded.

Hi Josh, I heard that it’s better if you don’t repeat words within a speaking question’s answer can I repeat the same words for different speaking questions’ answers? For example in question 2 (campus announcement) and question 3 (integrated lecture) use STATES in both: “The campus announcement states...” and “The lecture states that...” Would it affect my score?
@TSTPrep
@TSTPrep 3 жыл бұрын
I don't see a problem with that. According to a few sources at ETS, each question is graded by a different grader so they focus on an individual question and there is less of a chance of a mistake in the score with multiple graders. I hope this helps!
