Those cracks in the wood are very likely because there was no pre-drilling on the wood when putting the screws. It's recommended to pre-drill a size smaller than your screw to prevent this type of cracking over time.

Hi, May I know what is the spacing distance for your 14 2x4s privacy wall for the upper deck to create that even spacing?
