Hey, I know this is an old video, but question! how deep is your concrete patio? I've been mulling one of these over but I only have a 4 inch thick patio, which seems a bit light. How deep is yours?
@HuntAndFishExchange
@HuntAndFishExchange 3 жыл бұрын
my slab is 4" deep but I made footings 3 feet deep and only 2'x2' where the posts sit. ( I live in a climate that has snow for multiple months of the year.)

This video is super helpful! Question... did you have to wait for your lumber to dry before it would fit into the Toga? I am having trouble with that. I know the wood will shrink but am not sure how long that will take.
@HuntAndFishExchange
@HuntAndFishExchange 3 жыл бұрын
I really didn't have a problem with my lumber fitting into the system. But I live in Utah and it is very dry here. I suggest you let it dry out if you are having issues fitting. The only prep we did was sand off all of the black ink that was stamped on the beams and then stained the beams before the install.

@@HuntAndFishExchange ok thanks, was debating between those and the Tapcon Plus heavy duty 3/8 by either 3 or 4 inch... Both seem like they'd work fine, but if I get close to my patio edge the tapcons might be safer..

Nice video on how to put together a TOJA Grid pergola.. I got my kit for a 10x16 last week and want to start my work over the long weekend.. I had a few questions regarding the concrete slab and the post lengths. 1. My concrete slab has a slight slope to allow for easy water runoff, do you recommend cutting the posts to the correct length beforehand? 2. What kind of Post Anchors did you use?
@HuntAndFishExchange
@HuntAndFishExchange 5 жыл бұрын
No - I left my posts the length they came. I used the Redhead Anchors 3/8" x 4" see this link: www.itwredhead.com/products/expansion-anchors/trubolt you can find them at Lowe's & Home Depot

How big is it? Answer: Hello, Our Toja Grid Kits can be built to any size you would need, The recommended wood span for our 4x4 brackets is 12 feet and for our 6x6 brackets is 16 feet. Anything bigger would require our Quad and our Quint Bracket to expand the Pergola to your needs.

Hi there. Pergola looks great. I realize you answered this same question below, but I wanted to absolutely confirm before I commit to buying 6x6 kit. Is the thing stable or does it wiggle? Or is it rock solid? I've seen 4x4 versions wiggle/wobble quite a bit. Thank you for your thoughts.

Very helpful video, thanks! Question on the redhead anchors in which I am also looking at as well....the 6x6 posts have the pre-drilled holes on the base brackets 1/2 wide so I was wondering why you went with the 3/8 instead of the 1/2 anchors? I tested with both sized anchors and seems the 1/2 will go through if you hammer it lightly through the pre-drill hole on the base, just not sure if that's ideal, whereas the 3/8 fits easily. Thanks.
@HuntAndFishExchange
@HuntAndFishExchange 2 жыл бұрын
That is why I went with the 3/8 size. Because the 1/2” seemed to big for the holes.

This system definitely wasn’t designed with humid conditions in mind…here I am trying to install in the middle of the North Carolina summer. Rains every other day and when it doesn’t it’s 80% humid or worse…after letting my wood sit for over a month it still is way too fat to fit in the system lol

I want to get this system but as a 10' x 14' . Do you think four posts is enogh to hold the weight? Also how long total did it take to actually build it? It's been a year now, how has it held up?
@HuntAndFishExchange
@HuntAndFishExchange 4 жыл бұрын
I think 14 feet is too long of a span to have without another post supporting it. Especially if you are using 6"x6" post like I did. They are pretty heavy. It is holding up very well, I just need to re-coat come of the top beams again with Thompsons water seal/stain

This is a 10 x 16 pergola so three of the beams that run the width of the Pergola are 10 feet in length, all of the rest of the beams and legs are 8 feet in length. A 6 x 6“ beam is 5 1/2 inches wide so it doesn’t hold a lot of water/snow. In the winter when it snows, I take the fabric shade roof off during that time of year
