Tokyo Mew Mew Battle of the Dubs - Albanian Edition

Two dubs of the same language going head to head in a battle for the best!
Not exactly but the actual history of these two dubs is a bit complicated XD. To put it simply, in Albania, the dub depends on what channel the show airs on (Usually when those channels are only available from different cable providers.). Mew Mew aired on two different channels (Tring Tring & Cufo), so there had to be two different dubs. The one that aired on Tring Tring dubbed from the English dub and the one that aired on Cufo translated from the Italian script (despite using Japanese footage).
While the 1st dub bought all of the raw materials for their dub, the 2nd dub didn't, thus causing some weird mixing issues with the background music and sound effects (even using music from totally different shows XD).
This video has a subtitle track, showing character names, voice actors and translations for weapons and attacks. However, the list is incomplete. If there's anyone out there that wants to add a name or translation, please let me know and I'll update the subtitle file.

So when will part 2 involving the Portugual dubs come out? I know you can't compare scene to scene since only a bit of the second half of the second PT-PT dub is out there, but I think it does make an interesting comparison. Especially with what went right, what went wrong, and what was going on the second dub?

Hello Hika! First, let me thank you for your awesome hard work, we don't deserve you! Please keep working and sharing on TMM/MMP, you're the best TT I have a special question for you now! Do you have the RAW version of the japanese episodes of TMM? If you have them, could you please share them with us? >< I know it's a pretty strange question but I'm French and the French version of MMP was broadcast in a very low quality... So I wanted to know where I could find the Japanese version and I thought you probably have them so~~ I will totally understand if you don't want to share the RAW version, don't worry haha! Sorry for the really late reply. I personally love the French dub myself and wish that they didn't skip out on the DVD releases for season 1 XD. As for your question, I have RAWs. Is there a video file type that you prefer?

This is interesting that Albania decided to dub this series on two different channels. While I’m not a huge fan of the Mew Mew Power dub or Albanian dubbing, the Albanian version of that one wins for me by a little bit since the voice acting there isn’t that bad and actually fits to some of the characters in my opinion. The one following the Tokyo Mew Mew dub may have followed the Italian script, but many of the characters sound way too old. At least it wasn’t cut, but hopefully the voice acting from the MMP dub and the TMM storyline comes together. I’m sure it would’ve been a decent dub if they didn’t follow their illegal ways of dubbing. Also, the music and sound effects in the TMM dub from Albania are... really weird. They don’t fit to basically anything that’s happening in the show. It sucks that yet another show dubbed there had to be an illegal one.

Yeah. Although, the voice choices for the 2nd one was mainly because the Italian voices were pretty deep, so they used those for reference.

I do plan on doing it with the Portugal dub. The only issue is that I don't have many episodes of them so Deep Blue would probably not be included in it unless I can find someone who's recorded them. I can only do this with dubs of the same language. There are 2 Cantonese dubs as well but I only have 1 clip of the 2nd dub, so I can't really make a comparison for that one.

I've already made videos comparing voices of specific characters but a full video showing all of the character's voices at once would be way too long. I will be remaking all of those videos since I've gotten more dubs since then.

I have watched the "Vajzat Mjau - Mbrojtëset e Planetit" which is the 4Kids dub which I like. I have watched this on TV since I was 9.

HikaYagami There is also 2nd DVD of the 2nd half :) They actually messed it up xD It's labeled like re-release of Mjau Mjau Tokio 1, but it actually has 4 new episodes xD

Well, that's going to make it difficult to try to buy XDD. Also, there was recently a re-airing of the show on Pink Super Kids but it was only the 2nd half of the series. Is that normal or was there a rights issue that keeps the 1st half from re-airing?

Hi! Just saw this dubbing comparison!Just to clarify something: The first dub was dubbed legally, with good mixing of the Background Music and the voices. The second one was definetly dubbed illegaly. If you buy the rights for the series and the dubbing, why would you need to put some different Soundtracks or soundeffects as well if they provided you already the whole material? Why are the voices clear but the rest not? You see, in the first dub, everything is perfectly fine. Compare it and perhaps you will understand what I mean. This is unfortunately something what Albania is doing a lot in the last 10 years. Another great example: In the Hercules Movie (Albanian Dub) you can hear Italian Background vocals in the Gospel songs. It wouldn't even surprise me if it has been dubbed from the same studio as from the second dub of Tokyo Mew Mew.I'm not Albanian nor do I hate them or their country. It's just sad that they are the only country in Europe who dub like FanDubs. It's just not right for a TV Channel and a studio.That's why I'm voting for the first dub.

The dubbing studio for the 2nd one is pretty much the same as those that did the Disney Movies. They go buy different names sometimes but it's the same recording studio and parent company. Sometimes they're called "Jess Discograpic" or "AA Film Company". They mainly dub shows for the Digitalb cable service but some of their movie dubs have popped up in other channels. I could tell their stuff wasn't really legal due to a lot of the footage they used being from TV-rips or English dubbed DVDs. The first dub aired on the Tring service and dubbed by "Albania Productions/Unison". All that I've seen from them appear to be legal. Although, I do wonder where exactly the first dub bought the rights from. 4Kids lost the rights to Mew Mew in 2007, while the channel that aired the first dub was first available in 2009, which means that dub didn't air until around that time. Both companies tend to dub cartoons from either English or Italian. I guess because they're easier to translate.

HikaYagami That might be true. They perhaps got the 4kids rights because the european distribution still had the rights and material from the english dub. As far as I know, Europe has an additional license holder for the „european region“ and maybe they still could buy them in 2009. But I really do believe that the second dub and the rest they do (disney etc) are all dubbed illegaly. I just don‘t get why they would need to put different soundeffects and background music - that‘s just additional work, isn‘t it? Normally you have everything prepared from the license studio, because you PAID it to be dubbed? Maybe they just bought the dub but for subtitling purposes but still were able to „trick“ them and put a different mix into it because it‘s cheaper that way? It‘s still really weird, isn‘t it?....

Either that or they didn't buy the rights to begin with and just downloaded everything online. A lot of anime they dubbed were only 2.0 Stereo so completely removing the vocals would be impossible. Even then they obviously rushed it since they didn't bother to download the whole soundtrack to replace it properly, instead going for music from other shows they've worked on. In their recent dub of the Sailor Moon R movie, they were able to remove most of the vocals due to the source they took it from having surround sound. However, there was one scene where they changed the music used a piece from Mew Mew XD. Their recent One Piece dubbed episodes were obviously TV ripped since the Fuji TV channel logo was on the footage.

LuRecs These shows are dubbed for children obviously, who don't notice instrumental changes or don't do comparisons. The important thing is that they're dubbed by professional actors and translated properly in the standard language, that's what kids look for in a dubbing. It's not a new thing in TV shows the "soundtrack changing" thing, for example the American dubbing of Winx Club is literally all butchered into different instrumentals and sound effects, which was not really a big deal.

I understand your comment but, unfortunately, it's not what I meant. It's just that this problem, represents how the country stands and that they are obviously breaking the law, by dubbing series without having a license for it, otherwise they wouldn't need to change all the music and put other sound-effects.

Yep. Portugal had 2 dubs of the show (There are 2 Cantonese dubs too). However, since most the episodes of both dubs are missing, I haven't been able to make a proper comparison video for them yet.

Hmm the girls in the 2nd dub sound too old to me like their in their 30s or 40s.And so in the 2nd dubs world, Tart when through puberty......And not sure about that Voice filter on Masha's voice in 1st dub, and Deep Blue sounds like a robot in that dub too..And the re-mixing of the music in the 2nd dub was very poor, some of the music they used didn't even fit the mood of the scene...

Yep. The 1st dub is legal while the 2nd one isn't. However, since a professional studio, with professional VAs are involved, I have to include it in my videos XD.

Only male voices sound good when are dubbed in albanian. Shrek,Hercules,Spongebob,South Park and Kuzco are the best examples.But female voices are not really good

I think people aren't fond of the 2nd dub mainly because it's not technically legal. Since they downloaded the episodes, instead of buying the rights to the raw materials, the audio is very poorly mixed (including using songs from other shows that they've dubbed in a similar manner). The 1st dub, which was legal, seems to be remembered very fondly. Other comments mainly seems to be voice choices. The 2nd dubbed voices are kind of deep but that's mainly because they used the Italian dub for reference, which had similar voices. Despite Jess Discographics non-legal practices, the voice actors are all professional at least.

Here’s the dark truth about Tring: Tring is actually a very irresponsible company.They only pay attention to Peppa pig and Masha and the Bear.They don’t care about the other shows,they just care about these two shows.At least digitalb ACTUALLY pays attention to their shows.Also Tring digital dosen’t add any new shows,It’s just the same shows reairing over and over again.Digitalb dubs different shows and movies every month.

I wouldn't exactly call that a "dark truth". Just either laziness or budget issues XD. At least constant re-airings gives me the opportunity to get episodes of shows that I've missed the first time around.
