Never realized you could adjust the front center straps - after many years owning one! Ha! Thanks for showing that, Tom.

The Brain Bag is an older model from Tom Bihn that came out before bag makers started adding the integrated laptop compartments. I own this bag as well as the newer Sinik 30. The Brain bag is great for people who need to carry a lot of stuff and works well for short trips with its two large main compartments. I think the best feature of this bag is the compression straps. This bag is large but you can compress it down to a very manageable size when it is not loaded out. The Sinik does not give you this option. The outer pockets are roomy and work well for organizing your smaller items. I did not like the straps between the outer pockets and actually cut them off to give the bag a cleaner look, a bag obsessed type of move, I know. This bag has a unique look and i'm sure its not for everybody but like all Tom Bihn bags it is well made and backed by a great company.

The brain bag is still the backpack to beat in my opinion. I still have the 13 and the 15/16 inch brain cells. Yes, it makes my bags a bit heavier, but today's Tom Bihn bags don't really have any kind of protection for your laptop (even the base of the bags are not padded).

Thanks so much ! I was looking for some good Brain Bag review recently, and WAS shocked to see a Pack Hacker review ! The bag is weird, and that is what makes me like it.

I typically put my water bottle where you put the umbrella. Works great 👍

Until seeing this video, I never considered the center straps as being for anything other than a water bottle.

I found myself laughing when Tom described how useful the middle section would be for any "cylindrical" object, and in the next sentence complained about the loose, mesh "water bottle pocket" on the side. 😀 I literally have the same 18 oz. YETI bottle and it fits well in the middle section on the outside. You can clip the bottle into the triangular clip as well, to keep it from slipping out.

Honestly, built in laptop sections suck for spinal ergonomics. Tom Bihn on the right track.

I love this bag especially as a single bag traveler but for every day it is cumbersome

I have a 16L Matador daybag clone and in the middle it has a zip pocket next to two "Waterbottle" pockets however I find for weight distribution I use the middle zip pocket and stash snacks or packable rain jackets in the outside pockets. I'd suggest the same with this bag. Put the waterbottle in the middle pocket then the umbrella and other things in the mesh pockets. good review though guys, not sure I could ever spend this amount on a bag but good insight.

Blunt metro is overpowered gear against storms, but is there enough isolation to walk through heavy rain with umbrella? Is it ok in without umbrella in moderate/heavy rain if using some storm jacket? Black liner is disappointing. As i understand, this bag is good for people with tons of long items(synic little pockets are too small for some people as i understand), you have to buy everything separately to get some performance from this bag, disappointing:(

Tom Bihn is all about the "ecosystem" of accessories. This bag is not $200 because it's inferior to their $300 backpacks...it's $200 because, unlike some of their more expensive packs, you really MUST add at least a couple of accessories to make it work for you. For example, I have Tom Bihn caches for my laptop and 12" tablet, one of their Freudian Slips for additional organization, and a variety of pouches for carrying all of my "gear". Is this "ecosystem" a bit of an investment? YES. Is everything they make seemingly designed to last a lifetime? Also YES. So consider the bag and accessories in that light.

I would feel a carry handle on the rear instead of the adjustable holder would be better
