There's a famous interview with Christian Bale where he says that, while preparing for his role in American Psycho and struggling to find an "in" for the character, he randomly saw Tom Cruise on a late-night talk show and found it so creepy he decided to base his entire performance on it. Something about how Cruise exuded such an "intense friendliness with nothing behind the eyes," that every single word and smile and microexpression with was an intensely calculated impersonation of an actual human being. This is that talk-show appearance.

TBF Bale is a right prick to everyone close to him and otherwise and embodies all the negative, angry drunk British traits so I'm not surprised he'd interpret any sort of friendly behaviour with suspicion.

In the movie American Psycho, Christian Bale based the main character on a Letterman interview featuring Tom Cruise in 1999. When asked about the inspiration behind Patrick Bateman, he replied: “Tom Cruise on David Letterman had this very intense friendliness with nothing behind the eyes.”

I saw Tom Cruise in downtown LA and I was reluctant to say hi because I didn't want to fanboy out and make him feel awkward and he saw my hesitation and came up to me and shook my hand. Yes, you're. Some of this anti-cult people are so mad. If you don't agree with them and their radical method's, you're a scientologist or a cult member. Even when you criticize psychiatry with valid arguements. (Scientology does that also, but they're controlled opposition to make anti-psychiatry look less credible) Such as: That some measure's of psychiatry are clearly against civil right's & the concept of a free will, that it is always used against political dissident's & social behavior tha is morally not accepted by the mqainstream (Psychiatry wasn't "abused" in soviet system or in nationsocialism, it IS in itself a institution that is used against such people, even in the "democratic" west!), that antipsychotic drug's & psychoactive drug's in general a highly questionable, that there is a complex between the political elite/lobby, the pharma industry and mental hospital's, that psychology deliever's alternative measure's that are working and that everyone must have the free will to use these and refuse psychiatry as an instititution. You believe all or some of this arguemnts are valid? You won't use the psychiatry because you think these method's will damage your health? You wanna get a step further and take political action against it? CULT MEMBER! Most of the cult-awareness guy's are a treat to civil right's and not better than all the cult's. They have a similiar beleive system. Don't forget that the mianstream society with all moral's, law's etc. are nothing more than a believe system in it self! Everyone should look up Scientology by himself. There is clear evidence that this cult was a CIA operation. It is unclear if there still CIA connection's today. I doubt it. You should also look up into neuroscience. They developing new mind control technique's never before seen. The gov't, and it's tool psychiatry, can't wait to use this on dissident people...

Where is the "crazy" part? The reason Cruise is laughing is, because he realizes how his story must sound to a "non-pilot". His friend was in no danger, but to a layperson it would sound really bad.

@CarMoves
@CarMoves 9 жыл бұрын
***** Making it up? Every 5th grader knows, the higher you go, the "thinner" the air. There was plenty of oxygen at their altitude to "survive". The only reason the pilots needed oxygen was to remain "conscious". You kinda have to be awake to fly a plane, you don't have to be awake if you are a passenger. Cruise did not "cut off" the passenger's oxygen (he would be dead) -- he "cut off the passenger's [supplemental] oxygen" needed for consciousness. Therefore, the passenger was "never" in danger.

It had something to do with the delivery and irony of the joke, plus the fact that Tom already was in that sort of giddy mood when it doesn't take you much to start laughing. I think most of you should know what I am talking about. We've all had laughing fits, and Tom is as much human as the rest of us. So couple that with the joke and David lettermans presence and I really don't see how people can't comprehend Tom's reaction here. He had a good time, his story didn't involve anything dangerous. Why are people so mad? And yes yes yes, he is a scientologists and that is kind of weird. But that really isn't that much worse than being a christian or a muslim.

***** Yeah, 'these days' perhaps. But I think you are forgetting how terrible Christianity has been, and for a much longer period. Islam weren't as intolerant when it first originated, whereas Christianity started out as a violent rebellious mob 500 years earlier. Of all the atrocities committed by Islam; Christianity has been there as well. Rape, torture, unjustifiable murder and wars. And don't think for a second these things don't continue these days
@Devilsnightforlife
@Devilsnightforlife 9 жыл бұрын
***** Christianity started out violent; The few non-christian sources we have of early christians tend to agree that they were trouble-makers and made disturbances with their superstitions; not only towards non-christians but also to other christians who didn't agree. All that resulted in emperors such as nero persecuting them and wanting them gone (why do you otherwise think they were persecuted...?). The great fire of rome was hypothesised to be made by early Christians. They despised how their rebellious leader, christ, was punished. When the time of constantine came about the violence got even worse: according to theologians such as Miroslav Volf, "one of the most celebrated christian theologians of our day": "Beginning at least with Constantine's conversion, the followers of the Crucified have perpetrated gruesome acts of violence under the sign of the cross. Over the centuries, the seasons of Lent and Holy Week were, for the Jews, times of fear and trepidation; Christians have perpetrated some of the worst pogroms as they remembered the crucifixion of Christ, for which they blamed the Jews. Muslims also associate the cross with violence; crusaders' rampages were undertaken under the sign of the cross." And I think you need to read up on the amount of violence, rape and death that continue to this day by christians; especially in africa. You are CLEARLY biased as fuck if you think the only violence that takes place are by christians defending themselves against muslims. Probably a christian yourself?

The entire crowd also was completely oblivious about climbing “walls”… Reminded me of Fallon and Mcconaughey’s interview awhile back. All those people offended by his actions and we don't even know if the story is real or how much of it is real. Other thing is, passenger HAD oxygen, only there was less of it (lower air density) but it wasn't life threatning, he only fell asleep. Decission to only feed oxygen to pilots was correct, they couldn't risk numbness in their arms or falling asleep behind the steers.
@Serai3
@Serai3 8 жыл бұрын
+TheIrek666 LOL. It's so funny how you think you know what you're talking about. Go ask a doctor how "safe" it is to turn off someone's oxygen in a situation like that.
@TheIrek666
@TheIrek666 8 жыл бұрын
Serai3 For the last time, He HAD oxygen in the air and it was enough to keep him alive . Also, I didn't say it was safe, but It's not life threatning to be exposed to low oxygen concentration for a while. Of course, it depends how low, but I bet Tom being a pilot knows that, so if it was an actual danger to the passenger he would take the risk and descend. It's basic physics and physiology, you don't need to be a doctor.
@TheIrek666
@TheIrek666 8 жыл бұрын
JohnnieRhodes What jealousy? Sounds like someone is trying to play psychologist. Video is in fact very funny, I was just trying to explain to people that Tom Cruise is not some jerk who was endangering passengers life for no reason. If you don't believe me or common sense, believe that every pilot knows how increasing altitude decreases air pressure (ergo oxygen concentration) and how to react in that kind of situtations.

@bw0n6
@bw0n6 9 жыл бұрын
Admitting to cutting off someone's oxygen, which causes brain damage even if it does not kill, isn't dark enough? Is it not dark enough that he did this not for any emergency reason, nor with consent, but just because he felt like flying at a particular altitude? Or that he KNOWS he can tell the story on Letterman and laugh his ass off about it in front of the whole world because he is Tom Cruise? Apparently he is so cute when he does his big grin and giggle routine that his fans eagerly laugh it up at his casual assaults. Even Letterman seems astounded, but Tom just laughs more, showing Dave that his superpower smile is proof against any legal ramifications. Seems pretty dark to me.

First, Tom looks absolutely gorgeous here and I'm guessing the hating comments from men are rabid jealousy.
