As a 23 year old it's incredibly scary to realize the fact that I've been an alcoholic for quite a few years now. I've known it for a while but it's the hardest thing to ever fucking admit. I always think about it this way, I'll fix this issue tomorrow. And then it's the next day. Then the next day, the next day, etc.. Addiction is a really rough thing, and I come from a family of addicts so I should've seen the writing on the wall. Recently, I'm kind of coming to grips with the fact that I literally can't do a damn thing to fix myself. I can't even feel like a functioning human being without some alcohol. I don't ever act like an idiot because I'm a functioning addict to the worst extent which makes it even more confusing. It's becoming tougher and tougher though, and living a lie is the worst. These kind of videos are really good to hear, it's motivating.

+tracy cooney I can relate to that. I'm better now, much better than I was at the time I posted this. Still a crazy hard struggle though, because addiction isn't a drug thing, it's a mental thing that some people are just born with for the most part

Brandon Smith 1) I was attempting to say something that might be useful. Take it or leave it. 2) I'm almost two decades older than you, and you know nothing about me. I know full well what it's like to beat an addiction. 3) I also know that I can't do a thing for you over the internet, hence my brief comment, nor would I be equipped to do so in real life. What you need is a good kick in the ass from somebody who actually can do something for you. You're not going to do it yourself.

At one time i figured booze was going to kill me. I didnt care if i lived or died. Shortly after my twins were born their mother threw me out. I quit drinking cold turkey and have remained sober for 13 years. Never give up. Dont stop trying. Sometimes it just takes the right motivation

Im almost 27 and went to an amazing rehab facility called Singer Island in Florida when I was 25 for drinking and have been sober ever since with no hiccups or problems at all! Highly recommend that place

Been drinking since birth my parents were musisutions they put beer in my baby bottles I will die from this drinking with or without people you can die from alcohol withdrawal if you are as bad as me parents please don't do this to your kids it is child abouse I had 30 good year s with my wife she died 3 years ago now I am dieing to if you want to die from drinking that is your business but please don't do it to your kids I forgive my parents if this has happened to you to forgive them if you want to go to heaven

So glad that he made it out...my ex was this story. In fact he still is this story unfortunately...its important for family to see it can happen and more important for the addicted to see there is a way out.

When you are sober every second you are sober you tell your story to yourself to the point that some parts are made up but you believe them. Eventually it can lead to complete sobriety. It's hard to explain, but when you are still drinking daily you think of stories and excuses to drink, but once the health and social issues become to much they turn into reasons to stop. Alcohol literally consumes you, mentally and physically.

I quite like this guy. I went to an anti-alcohol meeting once - about 25 years ago, and felt like a total imposter... everyone was so much worse than me. They were good people though - exactly the sorts of people you'd like to have a drink with.

I love this guy his story is so honest I wish my best friend would quite drinking he won't talk to me anymore. I told him he had to sober up for us to hang together guess what he lost contact 😪😪

i had seen this video few years ago in search of inspiration to quit drinking. after 9 years of drinking quite heavily, finally quit it has been 45 days. Started with drinking quarter bottle of bourbon at a time and latter switched to beer ipa style heavy on abv. Drank every day with few days sober. What made me quit was not willpower or any program, it was cardiomyopathy and arrhythmia. My heart has given up, but still not too old so might turn it around. never thought it was a problem and drinking good beer was a good thing, that was real stupid.

I don't think I've ever had that actual hope. I just find that the whole thing is a drag. Done detox multiple times, treatment centres and so on. I really just don't care, except I love my job. That's all that keeps me going.

It just sucks that going to AA for help results in having to listen to people like this guy that don't stop at a short helpful story, but go on and on and on (part 3 of 4) to talk about themselves. He doesn't give a crap about helping someone else. Everyone just seems to talk about themselves and not care about anyone else before or after they get to talk. Every single unhelpful detail, mixed in with AA phrases (I started to get honest that day blah blah blah). Just listen to me talk. And I went to a meeting at 1 o'clock. I had a yellow onion on my belt. I had Cheerios for breakfast.

my experience is whether alcoholic, attending AA meetings or take your pick, in life we mostly talk about ourselves. it's part of the deal. I find this mans story quite affecting

I bet you he's is addicted to meetings. That is what happens. There is a 13th step you know. It means get a life beyond your insecurity of being sober. Recovery is not sobriety, it is far beyond that. I am not rubbishing AA or NA but there comes a time when you need need to move on.

I dont see why one "has" to move on from meetings...where is that a thing..certainly not in the big book. It can be such a massive source of support and friendship and far out if it keeps you from busting/suiciding/ruining your life yet again...I think good on them for keeping on turning up. Rocking up to a meeting once/twice a day/twice a week, or like me, sometimes once a week, sometimes more and sometimes less (if im needing more support) & it keeps me sober/minimises my suicidal ideation, paying my rent, employed FT, (basically more sane than my using self) then ill do it...and it will be done my way- 13th step or not. Everyone has an opinion and there are people there that say, "i" have to come more often, but my style is working for me and its MY recovery- so will full respect, you do you and Ill do me...id much much much rather face the judgements/displeasure of a few who dont know me than go back to where i was...well not a stretch- i would be dead either by my own hand or through some drug overdose and/or etoh mishap.
