I am a Mopar guy and gotta tell ya...you can't hate something that never existed. Can't consider a half dozen or so hand built outside the factory to be production for anything so basically these are just aftermarket engines that nobody wanted . And while these mythical monsters did make some HP...I read they were engineering night mares as far as the valve gear and the 20 foot long timing chains went and were said to have not been able handle a 500 mile NASCAR race. The way I see it , if these cammer things were so great, then Ford engines would be powering ALL top fuel cars for the last 50 years. We all know where that went...can you say HEMI???
@Mike583
@Mike583 3 жыл бұрын
@@bultacowally The chain was 6', not 20'! Pete Jackson, I think his name was, built a gear drive to replace the chain. Ford developed this engine for NASCAR racing, to compete with the hemi. NASCAR knew these engines were going to be too fast for safety on their tracks. So they banned both engines. After that Ford quit on the engine, even though the likes of Dyno Don, Don Prudrohme & others were racing the engines in NHRA. The guys that were using it in T/F ended up switching to other engines. While in use, they were very competitive! Too bad Ford quit on this remarkable engine. With Pete developing that gear drive,who knows how dependable it would've been? Things might've changed...a lot in NHRA!

Jersey ,I fully understand difference in SOHC and tunnel port even though two different monsters they are both FE engine ,the great part of the tunnel port was the round port with push-rod dividing it an with 2 4brl intake they worked great ,yes the SOHC worked better via higher horse and torq. as for high risers worked good to ,these heads are all different RPM range different flow rate ,they are all great and depending on what Ford was using it for which form of racing ,the HP TORQUE range very so much as only one was on standard production line that being the high riser headed FE ,and even some of those had a little mods for diff apps. ,,I have seen high rise heads with cast ## SPEC ,,stands for special cast ,,In short I love the torque of all the FE's P.S. didnt mean tunnel port was better than SOHC just it was standard looking FE .

The 406, 410 and 427 medium/high risers were all built to race lemans, these blocks inparticular had reinforced webbing on the block, reinforced main caps, reinforced webbing on rods as well as specialized rod cap bolts. That is absolutely badass! Beautiful engine and awesome sound. Putting that thing on the dyno running pump gas and putting out over 740 horsepower is absolutely mind bending!! If this thing was dynoed with a race fuel tune, I have no doubt this thing would be well over 800 (n/a) horsepower!.. Absolutely phenomenal!! No wonder why the hemis were afraid of this engine.. the hemmies had nothing on this engine. Great job!!

James Sawchuk GM really banded it, like they did Chrysler in 69-70 as the story goes. However, chassis and engines were changing so the real thing that killed it was Ford. $$$ to MFG and Family affairs cost Ford so they pulled out of domestic racing with the exception of Nascar. Too bad Nascar isn't really stock cars. I would be curious how things play out now. The Current Coyote is all Ford Cammer mated with DOHC Cosworth.

This reminds me of hearing the V-8's they used to fire up the engines on the SR-71s. The "Blackbirds"flew out of Kadena Air Base where I was stationed and the way we knew they were going to fly that day was when you heard those V-8s running at full throttle like that. You could hear them clear across the base. I don't think there was even a V-6 on the island at the time.Everyone just drove 4 cyl. cars and trucks. Those V-8s had a distinct sound in that environment,that's for sure.

France ALSO banned the Hemi because he didn't want Nascar turning into a pissing contest between Ford & Chrysler(who incidently had a DOHC Hemi on the drawing board)...So if the Cammer was allowed to race,the DOHC Hemi would have stomped on it. When France banned the Hemi,Chrysler withdrew it's factory teams...and as a result,Nascar almost went broke...Something France never forgave Chrysler for. Chrysler came out with the Street Hemi in 66,thus allowing the engine to be used in Nascar again. NOT because France had Petty's dick in his mouth?...Don't know where you got bullshit from.

Try looking up your Nascar history.Dumbass..It almost went broke without Chrysler involved...Not just Petty alone. Is Dodge in Nascar today?...who gives a shit?
