Warning: Talk contains some plot spoilers from the film
Tom Hiddleston, Mia Wasikowska, Jessica Chastain, and director Guillermo del Toro stop by Google to talk about their latest film, "Crimson Peak"
Crimson Peak is a haunting gothic horror story directed by the master of dark fairy tales, Guillermo del Toro (Pan’s Labyrinth, Hellboy series, Pacific Rim), written by del Toro & Matthew Robbins and starring Mia Wasikowska, Jessica Chastain, Tom Hiddleston, Charlie Hunnam and Jim Beaver.
When her heart is stolen by a seductive stranger, a young woman is swept away to a house atop a mountain of blood-red clay: a place filled with secrets that will haunt her forever. Between desire and darkness, between mystery and madness, lies the truth behind Crimson Peak.

I hate horror movies but this movie is very beautiful. The set, the shoot, and the acting are really lovely and awesome. I also love the symbolism in the movie (Butterfly/moth, the contrasting colors, etc) Guillermo was right, having to hate on the villain on a movie was easy and it was boring. But to get the audience to sympathize with the villains and actually felt conflicted about the villain takes some skill. (Sorry for the messy english)

+HootyDesu Maybe the critics were, like a lot of people, disappointed that it wasn't the full on horror film the trailer made it out to be. And their disappointment colored their judgement. I greatly admire Del Toro's work, so I know his style, & my friend told me it's more gothic romance than horror. So I knew going in what to expect. And I was really blown away.

critics gives shitty movies like the Conjuring or Insidious or Paranormal Activity great reviews, when they don't really happen to scare me at all. Crimson Peak looks like one true scary ass movie and that's why I am obliged to go see it or probably rent it and see it myself, alone in the dark to make it seem more scary than usual.

Damien Delatorre It's not really a scary horror film, it's more of a dark romance, with good mood, characters, & story. So don't expect to be scared & you might really like it. I'm curious to know your reaction.

Interviews get so much more interesting and engaging when the cast can talk freely without having to worry about spoiling. I have watched numerous interviews for this movie because I had so many questions after watching it, and in all the other interviews the group couldn't go too far or fully discussed the topic because they couldn't spoil. I enjoy this interview so much! They answered the questions so thoughtfully and in-depth, and even led me to have a further appreciation of the film.

I'm not a fan of horror movies. At all. The only reason I saw the movie was Jessica Chastain. I love her and I heard she was doing an exellent acting. When you see the trailer, you are not expecting a love story. So with my interest in acting I went and saw the movie. And I fell in love with it. This was actually the first movie I saw from Guillermo and it was admirable for me. His movies are different than others. In interviews you see he really loves what he's doing and he also has an answer to all the questions so he has a lot of information to tell people. That's what's fascinating to me. As well it was the first gothic romance I've ever seen. The characters are so deep and beautiful even though two of them are killing people but you understand why they are doing all the things they do and you kinda feel sorry for them. So I was compassionate especially about Lucille. Guillermo, Jessica, Tom and Mia were doing a really really great job.

I like how Guillermo states .. Parent are the roots of all disgraces. I think this couldn't ring more true with Lucille and Thomas. Perhaps their mother kept them away, hidden because of her anger regarding her abusive and absent husband. In the meanwhile creating sociopathic behavior in her children. It's truly awful and heartbreaking. But as a parallel, where she appears to Edith in the corridor, I find it Ironic because the blood of her own children were on her own hands before her own murder. If that makes sense? Anyway, this was my personal takeaway on this particular aspect of the film. Love your children, protect them, get them the help they need before they endure a life of hurt and pain because no one understands them.

So I was bringing Tom, all the Avengers stuff n independent interviews for talk shows n panels(what not🙄), n no one came close to his charm....but here he is Guillermo 😱😱 what Loki beats him in charm, he makes up with his comedy for it 🔥. I don't find jokes funny, but when a person spins normal talk 🤯 I'm done for 😭💀

The movie did lack substance if i compare it to pans labyrinth which i think was a masterpiece but visually it was trully beautiful and enchanting

I felt the same, I was comparing it with Pans Labyrinth and with the trailer and it didn't meet my expectations somehow. Maybe less ghosts and more advertising of the relationship between Lucille and Edith would have changed the reception in general... On a second glance, Lucilles character is still in my head, weeks after watching the film, which is a good thing for a film.

The trailer of this movie was far better edited as compared to the whole movie itself. It's supposed to be Gothic Romance. The undercurrent that the music should've brought was missing the tension in direction progression was missing. The emotional distress that should have been portrayed by actors was missing. No wonder it was a box office flop.
