To be fair, considering the Home trilogy is the high school era, it should be said that Spider-Man was no one’s beacon or inspiration by that point in the comics. And not even in the following era, for that matter. The Connors family, Robbie Robertson and Captain Stacy were pretty much the only ones who truly appreciated him and saw him as a hero. The rest of the city was either indifferent, hostile or at best slightly encouraging. And that was exactly Peter’s main struggle in the beginning: the centuries old dilemma of whether or not being a hero is worth it, if nobody sees and praises you as one.

But why doesn’t these stories focus on the people of New York and their viewpoint. Very little do we get screen time that focuses on the people that Peter saves, we get a few, but typically those scenes play out as jokes rather than crucial moments that help push the story along. Hell you didn’t even mention how Far From Home had literally none of that because he was in a different country. None of these films focus on that aspect of the character, and when they do it gets no pay off.
@anubhavdassharma1854

@@Ismatic1906 there was a fair amount in Homecoming. FFH didn't have any cuz it took place in Europe. NWH had a fair amount in the first half. The people of New York were present, and were shown. However, it isn't as intimate as the previous films cuz in those films, Spider Man was the only hero around. While in the MCU, there like 50 different heroes. That's not an issue with the movies themselves, rather it's not really that big of a deal. But I feel this part will play more of a role in the next trilogy with now most of the A list heroes either dead or focusing on the multiverse or cosmic parts. Only people like Spider Man, Daredevil, Hawkeye, and Echo are let to defend the streets against actual crime (not Kate Bishop after that Marvels PC scene). I also believe it's a unique live action take where Peter is looked upon with hostility rather than warmth, which the other Spider Man films never showed. That could be an interesting story beat.

MCU Spidey movies always feel so isolated, I feel like I never get to experience the world around him and his environment. The only time I've ever felt that with MCU Spidey was the small montage in homecoming, where that guy tells him to do a flip. These movies all feel like they're shot on a soundstage, and the people in the background are all NPC's not actually people. I feel like I never see Tom save random civilians.

Let's put it this way, i can kinda see why they haven't shown this yet in the mcu. In the mcu they've been more focused on showing Spiderman figuring out how to truly be Spiderman, the first movie showed him learning to embrace his inner strength, the second showed him becoming his own thing, and the third showed him fully becoming Spiderman. So now Disney can show him building trust with the people and becoming a hero people love. He just hadn't gotten to that point yet.

I just think 3 movies to develop him to level that every Spidey has had through one movie is too much. I also think you are forgetting that Spider-Man HOMECOMING is what made Spidey is own thing. Far From Home just recycles that in a less needed storyline.

@@Axe_Fax In the comics spider-man isn't exactly an 'insparational icon' he's more hated (like Hollands spider-man) and he's a smaller hero between many others so ppl don't care about him as much (like in Hollands trilogy). He's made the face of NY in other projects because Sony can only use spider-man and no other heroes. That's why they made Venom and Morbius antiheroes. You think he's adored by the public because there are more stand alone spider-man movies than in the MCU, so you think that that's the way he should be, when in fact it isn't. Also there's a smaller connection between Hollands spider-man and NY because he travels more and isn't limited to NY. Him helping more ppl isn't a problem, it's more realistic. If spider-man would exist he would probably move around too cause not all the crime is in NY and other places with higher crime rates need his help more.

Tom's Spider-Man is missing a crucial scene that the other two have: New York Citizens assisting in defeating the villain. Andrew and Tobey are both shown support and gratitude by the city through this. In Spider-Man 1, the civilians on the bridge throw stuff at Goblin to buy him time to save MJ and the Trolley, while garbagemen drive their boat to give him a safe platform. And after its done, everyone cheers. The icing on the cake is one lime said by a civilian "You mess with Spider-Man you mess with new York. If its one of us, its all of us". And the crane scene in ASM1. The construction workers know spider man is injured and is trying to stop Lizard. So they create web slinging points with their cranes to help him get there faster. They even shout on their PA that new York has his back. But Tom's. They IMMEDIATELY turn on him and treat him like garbage. But I don't blame the writing. Its mostly cause of how we as people changed in the last two decades. People believe everything they see on social media even if its a lie. This proves Mysterio's "believe" speech and Goblin's "hate you" points. People will turn on you on a whim to suit their wants and needs

@@kso86. I would argue that in-universe and chronologically it make sense why Spiderman has not yet built a public persona. This Spiderman seem to have spent most of his time dealing with low-level crooks and throughout the MCU most of Spiderman's heroism are not publicly known especially in the case of Homecoming where he stopped major heists at night.

This is the reason I love the spider-man games. First game was peter 8 years into spider-man, he's been helping people and did his best. The people were with him, even when the worst happened. Feast, his friends and ordinary people. He may have became sable's most wanted at the end but that didn't stop him from helping. Even two of his villains know who Spider-man is under the mask and they didn't tell anyone. There were times where it felt Shocker and Electro some what respected him. Electro and Spider-man bantering, or Herman not wanting to hurt him in the first place during the chance but he felt like he had no choice due to Mr Negative's threats and Spider-man just chasing him. We even see Tombstone excited that he could feel something again during and after his boss fight. The fact people on the street compliment him, that he can interact with them. Even the side missions you can do with Howard feel like this is how a Friendly Neighbourhood Spider-man should feel like. He gets support from Police, his loved ones and randoms alike. Even during the dlc, Spider-man just orders a damn pizza, knows the owners name and the owner knows exactly where it needs to go to be collected. He gains Silver Sable's respect, and the two work together to fight off Hammer Head. In the second game, although a few missions can be done as Peter or Miles. Many of them feel right to do as Peter, the Howard mission there is depressing but heart warming. The Emt's are respectful to Peter, try to bring him comfort. The mission with the grand pa Peter just sits with the guy until the grand daughter can reach them. The photographer, Peter just helps her try to get a great shot. He knows he can't save everyone, but he tries his best to. Even if it means him going down with them. We even see some reformed villains care more about him than they ever had in the first place. I know this can all change in the next few movies, how he can gain the respect and support of the people just by doing what he can. But for right now, Tom Holland spider man isn't a friendly neighbour hood spider man. He's just Spider Man, until he gets moments like the other versions got, from movies to cartoons. Only then he can be considered A Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man. Sorry if I spoiled the second game a bit for some people but it's been out for over a month.

I’ve been thinking this for awhile but I didn’t know if anyone else felt that way. The people of NYC mourn the death of a tech bazillionare CEO (which if you’ve been to NYC, LMAO) who likely has never interacted with any of them in any significant way. But Spider-Man who is a regular at helping people and interacting with them on a personal level doesn’t inspire any community loyalty? Hell no, that’s so backwards. Just looking at the memes people make of the avengers causing property destruction and how nobody would want to live in the MCU because of that prove this lol. Imagine if insurance says they don’t want to cover ”villain insurance” for “high risk areas” where you live and Iron man is too busy being Iron Man and the only person who can help you is Spider-Man who IS one of you and not somebody who lives a vastly different lifestyle. The MCU Spider-Man movies feel very out of touch with reality.

This captured a lot of things to be desired about MCU Spider-Man but in the same time it’s not entirely correct since Tom is THE most friendly neighborhood Spider-Man out of them all, let me explain In homecoming, most of the movie was him helping out the little ones. Helping an old lady with the directions, being friendly around his neighborhoods, he feels more down to earth as he doesn’t feel like a symbol of hope, rather feels like a regular guy who’s trying to do good, remember Spider-Man was never created so he can resemble hope (that came as a secondary thing) he was created to be relatable, last I checked u don’t get people looking up to u and think they’re safe right? Same scenario here. heck in earth 616, not everyone appreciated him for what he was doing in fact, in one of his comics, he was holding the daily bugle on his shoulders so it doesn’t collapse, EVERYONE saw what he did, yet not everyone thinks he’s a hero despite literally seeing him stop a literal skyscraper from falling right on top of their heads. after saving them all right in front of their eyes, JJJ’s immediate first reaction to that was to tell the cops to “arrest him”, MCU Spider-Man was also created in a world where superheroes were doing this job before him unlike his comic counterpart where he was just as experienced as his fellow heroes were. another thing worth mentioning is that MCU Spidey is also in a world where superheroes r common, some of them r literal gods too, so in there perspective y would they look at a guy in spider costume and feel hope when they can look at bigger superheroes who have been on the job for longer and against larger threats?
@Axe_Fax

I am not saying there needs to be appreciation from everyone in NYC but just have us see moments of them showing it would be great which the MCU does not. Ik the reference you are making from the comics which is a source that at least has given us what the MCU has not. He may not be as experienced as people like Iron Man or Thor but is still an experienced Super Hero at the time who has been fighting crime for several years before he was snapped. He may be in a universe with all these heroes but thats not a new thing for Spider-Man to experience, he may j be a superhuman in a spider costume but he is one that is meant to always be there for NYC when a lot of these big heroes are not while also being there for the big events to help save the day. Thats why NYC should have this appreciation for him.

He's not relatable and acts very ignorant in order to drive the plot. He does use gen z humor, but is a bad carbon copy of what life as a teenager is like. This Peter Parker is basically Stark's sugar baby. He trusted a man he just met with glasses that were a gift from Tony Stark. If he never gave the glasses, there would be no plot. Though I guess since this Spider man has an unreliable spider sense, someone may have been able to steal the glasses. Then, in the next movie, he goes on to trust villains for the sake of the plot. @@Axe_Fax The thing is, in the comics, Peter during his high school days was in no way an inspiration to the people of NY. He was a pariah that the people didn’t understand. Peter in his early comics was kind of a jerk who resented the world and struggled with the responsibility of being Spider-Man. It’s only his later comics and the movies that portray Spider-Man as an inspiration and a symbol of hope to the people. @@fegreninja7197 But he’s barely shunned he’s more so ignored, but that’s mostly because the movies don’t develop that section of the story at all. We don’t get any of that, and that’s what’s supposed to make Peter interesting. Everything up to this point feels like the writers stumbled into a situation where they could act like this was all intentional but it doesn’t feel like it was. A BIG issue with this is that MCU Spiderman (Peter Parker) is adaptaion of SPIDERMAN'S (MILES') comic story. Meaning that Peter is comic Miles. This also means if anyone wants to create a Miles Morales story without the multiverse, they will face HUGE problems with the MCU.

I agree that it would be nice to see more appreciation from the people of New York, but I think NYC always loving and appreciating Spider-Man is a Raimi invention. In the comics, love for Spider-Man has always waxed and waned. J.J. Jameson sells newspapers on the back of hating the "webbed menace." So it's not quite as black and white as your essay might suggest. Really good observation though. I do hope he gets some love in the next trilogy. The kid deserves it. Where i think the Home trilogy falls short is in the promise of a young high-school aged Spider-Man. We didn't get enough of *high school* drama. Asking a girl to a dance and then having to flake on her was about all we got. After that other students were pretty much background decoration. We never really get Peter's high school struggles. And that was a real missed opportunity, IMO. Still love Tom, tho.

Tom holland spider-man isn’t about him being loved but rather it’s about him helping people even if he doesn’t get recognized for it, like in no way home when everyone thinks he’s a menace but he still continues to fight against green goblin and the rest of the villains. Tobey and Andrew didn’t really have this problem because as you said they were loved by New York. The mcu was trying something different and in my opinion it worked. If anything, it gives more meaning to “with great power comes great responsibility” since Tom is so hated in nwh but continues to fight for the city

100% agree with you. Also this version is more comic accurate because wants to quit multiple times because of the city not liking him (that's the main meaning of "with great power comes great responsibility" as you said) but never gives up, and seeing that even the heroe has struggles makes him an even more likeable character.

Tobey had this problem in the first movie where Green Goblin claims that in spite of the good Tobey had done for the people, they would hate him eventually. Jameson was the big cause of that, trying to smear him at every turn. It was only through the act of saving children in a falling cable in public when he earned their trust, it was when his face was seen by a few people in the train he saved that he is just as normal as everyone else. Tom Holland really hasn’t done much to gain his people’s trust. Sure, he tried to save the ferry, but the people there really just gave out hollow praises and even turns their attention to iron man when he showed up. What does Tom Holland feel responsible for? Living up to iron man?

You actually missed the part that, actually, Spider-Man isn’t a loved icon by everyone. I don’t like Iron Man, but dude, how can you expect people to cry Spider-Man’s death when he’s been around for like 2 years and Iron Man for 15 years? Seriously, how can you compare? I cannot stand against Iron Man, but really, doesn’t really makes sense. Other point, yeah, Spider-Man is a loved icon, but not by everyone, in the Ultimate Spider-Man comics, the guy is pretty much underestimated, and an outcast, a “minor hero”, compared to the The Avengers, and last time I checked, everybody loves Ultimate Spider-Man, but when they adapt things from those comics, everyone is like “That’s not Spider-Man 😭😭😭”. I get most of the fandom is from the movies, but, at least investigate more before doing a critic, please. Actually, is quite amazing how the MCU stablished Spider-Man as a controversial hero, ‘cause in the comics (both Ultimate and Amazing) is that way, he’s pretty loved and pretty hated, but never really explained why, the hate is mainly thanks to Jameson’s influence, but here is ‘cause of the Mysterio controversy, which makes a little bit more sense. Research more before doing a critic, ‘cause it’s six minutes of the video and you only mentioned the movies and tv shows, when the source material offers so much more.

I completely agree with everything you said and I hope they stay truer to the character going forward, but I also gotta say I think it’s great how unique his origin story has been. We’ve seen the comic accurate story done twice already and sending Spider-Man to space, having him fight Thanos and die, come back, fight a wizard, open the multiverse and learn the “with great power comes great responsibility line” from variants of himself is a damn cool origin story. This Peter has been through a lot of really weird crap. Admittedly those kinds of things are less central to the core of the character, but they also do represent the weirder sides of comics that the older films never even dared to.

Had that been the intent from the from the start, I would have been happy with that, but the problem is that it leaves an even larger disconnect between how he’s portrayed in Civil War and how he is in Homecoming. According to his dialogue with Tony in CW, he already had a sense of responsibility. From Homecoming onward, he is portrayed as less capable and less responsible (not sure why, but alas). Due to CW, having 6:16 NWH serve as the completion of his origin through May makes Peter look like an idiot for needing to learn this lesson AGAIN. This trilogy works much better if CW Spidey didn’t exist 😭

The issue with MCU movies post 2016 (with the exception of maybe Black Panther) is they care less about diving deep into character's and personality, and focus more on overall MCU story arc. This iteration of Spiderman was more involved with saving the Universe (from Thanos) rather than NYC. Homecoming brought him into the suburbs and DC, and FFH in London, and in NWH, even though it. was a NYC story, the whole world turned him on.

In the MCU's defense, Spider-Man was relatively new. In Queens, he was a little more known because he lived there. But in the Spider-Man comics and the movies before MCU, he was more of a loner. Therefore, his image could shine. In the MCU, he joined a cast of superheroes and WANTED to be part of a team...which is something the REAL Spider-Man is vehemently against lol. So he immediately joins in with a group of heroes who don't even have a secret identity: Tony Stark's Ironman, Thor is his real name and everybody knows he is an alien god from Asgard (Remember he was taking pictures with people on the street and they said "Sorry Jane dumped you." Mind you, LOKI, who CAUSED NYC's DESTRUCTION was STANDING RIGHT NEXT TO THEM), Steve Rogers is Captain America, James Rhodes is part of the MILITARY so...there's that, and Black WIdow's and Hulk's information became public knowledge after Winter Soldier. The only guy who is stopping his name from becoming special among New Yorkers here IS Spider-Man because he is hiding from even his own teammates by not revealing his identity to anyone. So more than this being this iteration of Spider-Man that is different... ...I would say that Spider-Man just doesn't WORK in the MCU because they are too interconnected. The way they made him in No Way Home was great. Now he isn't part of any team, nobody knows him, and now he CAN build that trust with the common people of NYC.

Spiderman actually a Avenger the comics. He was a loaner, but he was still part of the team. Spiderman is also The most popular Marvel superhero so making all these necessary changes was very needed. This is gonna be a lot haha 1. In Hoemcoming at the ferry, Spider-man gets a little appreciation, but then the danger increases. When iron man saves the day, they give him credit because he did most of the saving. And this directly leads to Peter’s ark in this movie, where he needs to no longer rely on Stark, but be his own hero. 2. When Spider-man “dies” in infinity war, there could be a memorial, but we don’t have time to see it. And half of the entire universe dies so I’d just like to mention he’s not the only one. 3. Maybe it’s not in-universe, but I like how his death gets a special moment, ripping at our hearts- and that’s not even a Spider-man movie 4. In Far From Home, when he stops Hydro Man (Mysterio “defeated” them anyway) nobody knows he’s Spider-man. 5. Also, Far From Home is more of a Peter Parker movie, focusing on Peter balancing his own life, even in vacation. And Europe is a change after 5.5 movies in New York 6. NO New Yorkers? At least half of the people root for him. But the movie follows the struggle, and even if they don’t blame them as a murderer, they know who he is, so he’s less of an icon 7. One thing is that he has to balance with all the other heroes. One character won’t be the heart of super hero central when they’re at least two others at a time. And it’s not like they could do anything about this 8. In Homecoming Vulture isn’t a big supervillain like electro or green goblin. He’s lower stakes, which I like especially for the bigger universe. And Mysterio was gonna kill many many people, but Spider-man did this in Europe so there’s not gonna be that New York theme. 9. By the time Peter gets back, idk if normal citizens know the story, but just a week later the entire story- with a fake twist is revealed. So there’s no time or place for appreciation then 10. Also in Homecoming, after Spider-man saves a few students, the entire school is thankful. This might not be much to the entirety of New York, but it is appreciation nonetheless. Also he motivates Flash if that says enough Although I do like the positive ending unlike with most video essays 👍🌵 Dang that’s a lot haha

to be fair, i think it’s kinda unfair to compare the praise the other Spider-Men for the connection they have with the city when they are literally the ONLY heroes in their universe. Holland’s Spider-Man is one of the newest amongst many established heroes who have been around for around a decade. it’s also pretty accurate for people to disregard spider man and make him feel unappreciated, because he doesn’t do it for the praise he does it because it’s right even if he doesn’t get recognition.

How can you Outshine the Achievement of beating the Trickster God himself Loki and Stopping an Alien Invasion and more stuff I'm too Lazy to mention that they did? There's a reason people call the Avengers "The Earth's Mightiest Heroes". I'm not saying it's impossible for Spidey to beat the Avengers "High Score" but, it damn sure gonna take lots time and hard work to pull that Achievement off. I hate Tom's Spider-Man, he is complete garbage and the fact he needed so much set up to get to where the other iterations were is laughable. He does nothing to exist outside of the Avengers or Iron Man. He is so reliant on others in order to be relevant just makes it sad. Like cmon his 1st villain wasn't created due to his own actions, Vulture was a byproduct of The battle of new York/iron man, Mysterio a rejected stark worker and now with NWH he banked off the nostalgia of previous iterations and their rouges providing nothing more than cameos and fan service. I'm skeptical Tom's can be anything more and my god another trilogy.

“does nothing to exist outside the avengers” he was stopping small crimes and doing neighborhood deeds before meeting any of the avengers. he denied being on the avengers so he could keep helping out the neighborhood. the only time he goes to help out the avengers is when the entire planet is at risk via thanos. most spider-man villains have beef with oscorp or some other third party and develop a hate for spider-man because of his meddling. doc ock in spider-man 2 only wanted to finish his reactor and spider-man kept intervening. lizard in tasm only wanted to “better the world” until spider-man kept intervening. vulture wanted revenge until spider-man kept intervening. the whole arc in nwh was him forgetting his morals after all the pressure of the world turning on him gets to him. He becomes selfish and would rather condemn the villains to death than save them and only does through his aunt reminding him of the morals he stood on. the same he stood on when he decided to miss homecoming with his dream girl to stop the vulture(who he saved from almost getting himself killed). you need to rewatch these movies with a more open eye as they’re great spider-man films (ffh is a little lame though)

I like Tom Holland Spider-Man but sometimes it feels wierd Spider-Man being Robin in the Infinity Saga like most people call him Iron Boy Jr. Spider-Man in the MCU is more of a sidekick rather than a lone superhero. Before I watch MCU movies I watch The Raimi films, The Avengers: EMH, Spectacular Spider-Man, Ultimate Spider-Man, Avengers: Assemble and when I first saw the MCU Spider-Man I used to think it was The Amazing Spider-Man because one Aunt May looking like a step mom rather than aunt may in the comics. There's nothing wrong with Tom Holland but I wish they had Spider-Man's character arc be a little bit like the comics like knowing the great power comes great responsibility in the infinity saga and not his character arc come from Iron Man. Well atleast he's better than Spider-Man from the 2017 cartoon because Peter in the MCU doesn't always get help for example He fought Vulture by himself he fought Thanos with no effort even kicking his face he held the infinity gauntlet (he didn't snap) he defeated Dr. Strange by using Math he prevented Bucky from punching his face he stand alone fighting Mysterio and Peter defeating Dr. Strange just show that he could defeat other Marvel heroes when he can.

What really bothers me about mcu Spider-Man is the suits from a story perspective. In the comics there’s a connection between Peter and the suit. It’s the suit he wore when he allowed uncle Bens killer to run away. He wears it as sign of not shoving his mistakes deep inside himself. It also gives continuous motivation to him to try to prevent events like uncle ben’s death but not have his mistakes weigh him down to much. The mcu suit was given to him by Tony stark because he was wearing sweatpants and sweatshirt to battle. There’s no connection besides Peter getting a suit from iron man. He just gets more crap from Tony stark until Tony’s death. The comic iron spider suit is impactful because it looks like iron man not Spider-Man. A suit tells a story better than the first mcu Spider-Man movies.

That's probably why the mcu was reset with Doctor Strange. It gives him the time to shine as his own hero and step out of Iron mans shadows, which i think has always held Tom holland Spiderman back. I love all the tom holland saga of movies but I would definitely agree that he lacks his own identity as a hero, he goes from a side kick to goofy kid with powers and its really disappointing. I think what really rubbed salt in the wound for everyone is far from home. He seems to regress from everything he learned from liz allen in homecoming. In far from home he is so fixated on asking MJ out its pretty insulting to the identy of spidermans responsibility. I mean he doesnt even want to bring his suit with him to Venice he could not care about being Spider-Man. I think its just do to the writing however. People responed well to homecoming because it was more of a goofy movie and they wanted to replicate it with far from home and its really unfortunate because its really just the same movie without any of the charecter progression. And no way home is just fan service for spiderman fans so we just get very basic story filler and peter really doesnt evolve until we get the scene with Aunt May.

I feel like Homecoming had a good start to establishing him as a friendly neighborhood Spider-Man but FFH kinda went off the rails with his direction where the world itself wanted him to take Iron Man's place. I feel like MCU Spidey should just be a street level hero who ends up jumping into larger fray's due to it effecting New York vs he is at the front trying to be something he was never intended to be. Hopefully a new trilogy will keep him grounded and out of these massive encounters unless it is absolutely needed for him to be present. Like for the upcoming Secret Wars, MCU Spider-Man shouldn't be involved in a major way but instead (if the rumors are true) and Tobey is one of leads for the film, he could find the MCU Spidey having fallen to the Venom symbiote and he takes Andrew's Spider-Man with him to get the suit off of him and then they make him just hang back and protect what remains of New York until the crisis is done. This version is way to young to have been through what he has, him being more grounded in stories would do his character some much needed good. That's why I think Tobey and Andrew do a much better job; their Spider-Men are grounded and it's believable that they could do more but are to focused on New York. With NWH, both get thrown into a multi-versal crisis and actually do amazingly well.

That's sort of a plot point for Ciem works: Candi finds herself making a greater emotional impact everywhere except for Boonville. Most of the time, most of Boonville thinks nothing of her, no matter how much she's done for them. They don't hate her; they don't love her; they're simply...apathetic. Then again, she doesn't so much save them because she loves the city. She saves them because she doesn't want Arfaas, who killed her family, to gain the moral victory. Not that she'd be heartless otherwise; but her motivations are partially political. It's not purely out of love for the town. It's out of reverence for the higher ideals that her parents wanted the town to once symbolize. Which bleeds over into why she saves Texas several times in Sodality. Because of the abstract nature of what letting the bad guys win would lead to. But she is rarely allowed to connect with anyone personally. As such, even when she's there for Houston, they're not always there for her. She ironically has the biggest impact on Little Rock, AR - a town she never lived in!

Tom Holland has all the qualities of a great Spider-Man. It’s just not in your face. He learns to be friendly neighborhood by the end of homecoming that’s literally the point of the movie. He learns he doesn’t need to be iron boy by the end of far from home and by the end of no way home he learns how to keep his loved ones away from Spider-Man. He has the most comic accurate suit now, beating tasm 2. All marvel has to do is not bring back Ned and Mj and give us black cat and Gwen 4:47 You do understand there are other superheroes in the mcu right. Black widow and Hawkeye are more popular than Spider-Man in universe. They aren’t gonna thank him or look at him like a hero because they expect to be saved. They only thank the high profile heroes. 5:35 The worlds most popular heroes in the mcu resided in NYC. Stop acting like MCU Spidey could’ve been an inspiration. Unless he was introduced phase 1 why would you expect that? Especially when he’s not even in his college era yet, he’s 17 rn as of NWH. Nobody’s gonna look at him as the “hope of nyc” when they have captain America and iron man to look at. It’s simply put there are literally a plethora of other super heroes. We all know George Washington, Trump and Lincoln but we don’t really bring up Madison. I do agree, Spidey has much more potential now but Tom Holland is friendly neighborhood. Helping an old lady find a churro, leaving a note on a stolen bike, saving a deli cat. So much more, Tom Holland is Friendly neighborhood and now he’s running solo it’s gonna be easier to see

Very fair, Peter B Parker had a great story in Into the Spider-Verse, love what they've done with Miles to this day!

As much as I loved Tobey and Andrew's films, there was always something missing from Tom's that I couldn't quite put my finger on. It was a lack of authenticity, presence, and spirit. I couldn't (and still can't) understand how Tom's movies are so popular and made so much money. I never understood why I felt any of this... until your video. You nailed EXACTLY why Tom is not my Spider-Man. Thank you for finally giving me the answer.

In short it just hasn’t happened yet. Yes he should be appreciated for what he does but that rarely happens even in reality.

I have nothing against the MCU as a whole, but I agree the way they portrayed Spider-Man outside of Captain America 3: Civil War is a mixed bag situation for me. The Pros: Tom Holland has the look to play a young Spider-Man, has good action, some decent acting, and well executed villains. The Cons: I don't like Ned or MJ. MJ is a miserable character throughout the trilogy, Ned is infuriating every scene that he's in and has no idea what he's doing. The teenager drama, Flash being dumb instead of being a tough bully and lastly completely retconning Uncle Ben. With that being said, he is just a decent Spider-Man.

I used to feel this way until NWH. I think as annoying as uncle Ben being replaced with tony is, I think the story is the same but with a different person. I think by the end of NWH he became his own

what gives me hope is that in nwh everyone forgets about spiderman so he can get a fresh start and become proper spidey

You say no one cares when spider man dies in the MCU but brother, half the fucking universe died... I feel like people had more going on than just spiderman dying. He wasn't even the only superhero who died there was like 8 that died that day

Remember that scene in Spider-Man 3 before the final battle, the flag scene where the citizens cheer for him as he appears. Moments like that or something.

I guess all it takes is a actor that looks and acts like the character and not for the actual movies be like the comics

You have to remember there was a plan for this Spider-Man to merge with Sony meaning potentially 6 films, so to extend the lesson of great power great responsibility is good storytelling, I think they could have potentially made it clearer he’s not Spider-Man and this is effectively a origin trilogy to being Spider-Man. but when the penny dropped with what they where trying to do, by having the past Spider-Man to guide him be the last puzzle is soo unique and was a very effective experience when I left the cinema, if he’s the more traditional Spider-Man we know in the next instalments im sure we’ll look back on the first three fondly and I impressed with their direction. Also could argue it’s more realistic he wasn’t the Peter we know as he is a young teen and I’m a adult and I still struggle to be responsible often.

I'm getting sick of people praising and saying that the whole trilogy was a planned origin story when none of them even wanted to see another origin story again in the first place back in Civil War.
