Wilson Pickett was born in Prattville, Alabama, and grew up in Detroit. Little Richard preached a message at his funeral. Now you need to check out Percy Sledge - “When a Man Loves a Woman.” Percy was also born in Alabama, and was discovered working as a hospital orderly, singing in the hallways. Check out Little Richard too.

I was 19 years old. Too young to get into a nightclub you had to be 21. My sisters knew the owner of a nightclub where Wilson Pickett was going to be appearing. He allowed them to bring me in to watch his show, but then I had to leave. My first time ever watching a performer who I absolutely loved and bought his albums… I was in hog heaven. I was very grateful. He sang this song and others, including “Don’t let the green grass fool you”, another of my favorites

According to Wikipedia, Wilson Pickett was born in Prattville, Alabama. He started out singing in a Gospel choir, and sang with a Gospel vocal group in the early-1950s. In 1959, Pickett joined the R & B vocal group, The Falcons. In the early-1960s, Wilson Pickett started to record some solo singles. Around 1963, he signed up with the Atlantic Records label. "In The Midnight Hour" was released as a single in 1965. Other hit recordings by Wilson Pickett are "Land Of 1,000 Dances", "Mustang Sally" (a cover of a Mack Rice song), and "Funky Broadway" (a cover of a song originally recorded by Dyke And The Blazers). Wilson Pickett is an inductee in the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame. He passed away in 2006 of a heart attack (he was in the hospital for the previous year with various health problems), at the age of 64.

What a great song. This song was cowritten by Wilson Pickett and the king of R&B guitar Steve Cropper.

Tom and Wilson did a medley together on Tom's show in 1970. It was one of many once in a lifetime TV moments - you saw one with Janis Joplin.

Tom Jones and Wilson Pickett were both 60's era recording artists. When TJ said he wanted to be the next WP it was because both of them had hit records during the mid to late 60's and TJ admired the "Wicked Pickett's" vocal style.

Tom Jones later did a cover of "In The Midnight Hour", which reveals all the more how much Pickett's vocal style was a major influence on him.

Just wait til they hear "Hey Jude" 😀 they haven't heard him "scream" yet! I grew up listening to his songs, but he really shows off his vocal prowess in Hey Jude. He really slaps with that "church" energy. Hope they do that one soon. The look on their faces will be priceless 😀

You may be amazed to hear Wilson Pickett doing a Beatles song, "Hey Jude". Guitar solo by Duane Allman of the Allman Bros. Wicked Wilson Pickett was one of a kind. This is a 1960s era performer. English guys were fascinated with R&B from the US. You may want to check out a group called the Rascals (or Young Rascals) doing the Midnight Hour.

Pickett was born March 18, 1941 in Alabama, and sang in Baptist church choirs. He was the fourth of 11 children and called his mother "the baddest woman in my book. Pickett eventually left to live with his father in Detroit in 1955. After singing for four years in the popular gospel-harmony group, Pickett, lured too success of gospel singers who had moved to the lucrative music market, and joined the Falcons in 1959. Pickett's first success as a solo artist came with "It's Too Late," an original composition. Entering the charts on July, 1963, it peaked at No. 7 on the R&B chart; the same title as Pickett's debut album, released in the same year. The single's success persuaded Atlantic to buy Pickett's recording contract from Double L in 1964.

This is also the perfect recording to show the differences between the two leading R&B record labels of the time, Motown and Stax. Motown is smooth and polished; Stax is raw and gritty. 1

Great to see you listening to something many other 'Reaction Channels' aren't reacting too. The world is full of so many more songs/music than what is being viewed on every other reaction channel here. I enjoyed this one guys. Can I suggest Etta James singing 'At Last' or 'Stormy Weather', she has a fantastic voice.
