To give some context to the story, Tom was invited to crash with his now girlfriend Nova who was living in Crenshaw. At the time they were just friends. Tom didn't have any money and they knew each other from when Nova was putting on rap shows in Canada while under her label, Def jam. Nova gave Tom his first break. Nova had a falling out with the label and was forced to move and Crenshaw was the only close place she could afford. Tom was just dragged back to Canada by his mom to help him get sober and once he cleaned up he was looking to go for his dream of rapping again in the United States and Nova offered to let him crash with her for a little bit since they knew each other. It was one of those things where they started out as friends and eventually became boyfriend and girlfriend. But even for Tom's first several videos that went viral they were doing it in Crenshaw and Tom was using a $5 microphone.

If you want to go down that branch of the rabbit hole, he even won an auction for an Eminem beat for 100 grand, and gave him his flowers with it on "Dear Slim". It was technically 'produced by Eminem'. And Marshall is the only exception ever to Tom making his own beats. As you mention, their political views are VERY different, and although Slim hasn't made any statement about Tom, it's a safe assumption that he's not a fan. Hangover gang was his posse back in the day when he was first doing music. Mind you he was an alcoholic who was also addicted to drugs. Having grown up in the hood in Philly I know hood living is where you have to be not where you choose to be. Him living in the hood in California was not necessarily by choice. You live where you can afford to live and when you're addicted to drugs and alcohol that's where all your money goes. He's talked about it in interviews he sung about it in different songs. Not have any food, the electric being cut off, all the po life trials and tribulations.

I first discovered him 5 or 6 yeare ago from his songs "Exposure", "Whiteboys", and "Dear Rappers". Exposure is similar to Dear Rappers. I think I actually like it better between the two. Most of the songs on the list you read off are his more recent songs. Some people do make chronological lists for reactors.
