This song really separated the real Tom fans from the fake ones. A lot of his “fans” couldn’t see what he was doing or try to understand what he was saying. The real ones have an open mind, and while we may not know about the struggles, we will at least listen and try to understand.

Just be aware that you and your beautiful family were created by father with the freewill to do as all of you wish, and if what all of you do with your freewill hurts someone, but not on purpose. Then what they have to say about it really doesn’t matter. Plus all of you have the right to choose. So fuck’um. And always remember. Your body, your mind, your control.

My father-in-law is black and one thing that I’ve noticed is the people screaming racism and protesting in the streets are middle to upper class white liberal SJW’s while he says nothing at all and looks at them like they’re out of their minds. Lol. There will always be racism in the world but it’s not anywhere as bad as what the media portrays it. I grew up and still live close to a town in KY that is 99.99 % white and I know a lot of people from there still and I can honestly say that not one person that I know from there is a racist. You would think a small town of all whites in KY would be where racism is at its highest but it really is not.

The idea is to show others that dark and light can coexist on the same plain. You are showing just that with love for one another, and you both created something beautiful because of that, with love, true love. As long as you are his only focus and he is your only focus. The two of you will be as one until you shed your earthly vessel.

As a white man of 53 having grown up in the southern part of Louisiana, I’ve witnessed racism and perhaps at an early age learned some bad habits and expressions that I was ignorant to that would be offensive. I find this song engaging especially with reaction videos from Black Americans, because as you stated in your reactions Tom MacDonald, a white man speaking from if he where black spoke things that you have been thinking your whole life. Lol he does that for all of us by the way. But that being said, so many times I’ve heard that I don’t know what it’s like to be a black man in America, I get it. I agree, I’ll never know what it’s like to be a black man in America. But as a human in America I can look, listen, and imagine just like Tom. We are the same, we just live different perspectives but we live within the same system. ☮️

I spent the past year reading and researching. I thought I knew enough having lived with every race over years in the military. Learning what the phrase "black culture" means relative to ethnic heritage and reflecting on things that happened over the years from a different perspective changed a few things, as much as watching police doming kids with 40mm baton rounds with no apparent need.

His distributer even tried to stop him from releasing this song. But he took to social media and fought to get it pushed through. I love the fact that Tom uses his platform and influence to spread awareness on these kinds of things. Not all people have parents that take the time to teach their kids the real history and truths that people have to deal with. Its why 2Pac was always one of my all time favorites, He shed light in the dark corners that the elites tried to keep hidden. And not saying Tom is 2Pac but he uses his influence to do the same. His music has a purpose and that is dope.

I'll be honest as a white guy. This song does highlight what some of us know to be the issues many Black people see as their (for lack of a better term) cross to bear. The problem, as I see it, is still one of communication. I've been told to just shut up and listen but that doesn't end up being productive. For instance, certain theories ascribe racism to local stores for having products on the end caps that cater to a more white clientele. That is then called racist. To me, that is more about economics than racism. If X product sells the most (or you need to sell an excess of a certain product) it goes on the end cap. Race, itself, doesn't play a role. The problem with defaulting to calling that racist is that it creates a divide and makes groups feel put upon or left out. That, simply, stokes the feeling Tom is talking about. Add in the media and elite talking heads pontificating about the ideas Tom is talking about here, and there is a break down between reality and perception. Telling others to "shut up and listen" ends up stifling conversation and all nuance around the issue(s) is lost. When the fact that Blacks are more likely to be in prison is taken at face value, minus any nuance or exploration of why, it becomes a racist statement. Unfortunately, the solution, in my opinion, is then lost because the root causes are lost in the racist rhetoric from both sides. Are inner-city communities prone to more crime? Are poor people less likely to get a fair trial? Are public defenders simply not that adept at giving their clients good representation? Is the break down of the nuclear family part of the problem? Are there a lack of good role models for inner-city kids and young adults? All of those, to me, are potential root issue to a higher incarceration rate. Making the higher rate be only about racism eliminates all those questions as more racism (too often) so I can't perceive a viable solution to solve the incarceration issue (other than stop arresting people for those crimes). Heck, there might even be a discussion to have regarding WHAT people are locked up for, but it is not the only issue in my opinion. I could touch on most of the broad assumptions Tom touches on in this video (and I think he has flirted around the edges of some of these issues in his other songs). I just wish everyone could take a step back, breath, and then come back together and figure out solutions. I'm just afraid that my voice (simply because I am white) is not welcomed. Thanks for the reaction and letting my rant (somewhat )

Backstory: pre-pandemic, Tom & Nova sitting at a pizza parlor preparing to shoot the video for Buttholes. In walks in 2 black guys, the 2nd guy has dreads with yellow frosted tips, the front bangs tying wrapped to the back holding the hair back. Tom comments out loud, 'If I was Black, I would rock that doo'. Thinks to himself, *What an odd thing to say, If I was Black, what would my life be like?* **opens phone, starts taking notes** Tells Nova that he thinks that he has to go to the booth immediately that he has an idea for one of his most important songs. She asks him about the Buttholes video, and the booking, the props, the actors, and the day rate. He tells her that this track is more important, and that to go ahead and call it off but to go ahead and pay them. Fast forward to releasing the video, the independent distribution company said that Apple music, wants him to change the cover art, so he does, then they tell him that Apple is saying that he has violated some terms, and that he needs to change some lyrics. To which Tom is absolutely not. He gets on the phone with Apple, and they have said no such thing. Come to find out 2 people at the distribution company are offended. He gets p*$$ed and gets into a legal dispute to the point that Tom is like, he doesn't care if he doesn't get paid for the track, as long as it gets released. Their standpoint is afraid of being sued. He argued a distribution company takes place of a label, because labels limit people. So Tom goes into the legal battle to reclaim it, and finds a different distribution company, and still released on his target date. Come to find out, they weren't offended in the manner that you think, they didn't want a white man sticking up for blacks because it meant progress in bridging the gap. Trapp Terell, and YellowPain make a diss track after pulling a positive reaction on their reaction channel of Tom. They also do a sample of 4 different reaction channels 3 of which are positive of the message the take the samples and clip it out of context, so it appears they are anti-Tom. 2 weeks later Tom shoots Buttholes with a different concept.

The government is turning races against eachother because it's easier to control us if we are separated and afraid. Biden and the democratic party are one of the biggest racist in our country. They are exploiting the black community and demonizing the white community for political gain and its sickening. Please anybody reading this regardless of color, political views or beliefs. Check out the hodge twins, Jericho Green and the officer Tatum. You may not agree on all that they say but the bottom line message is that we are all being used, poisoned and are expendable in the eyes of the government and it has to stop. Love to all reading.

Why did nobody catch the attire in this video... I guess because of how important the message is but there's a nod to 2 Pac and all the reactors miss it. Tom and Nova lived in the ghetto in South Central and he saw this firsthand and this was off of his album "Ghostories" but the album that got him and Nova out of the ghetto was "Deathreats." He mentioned that in "Cancelled" and "I Don't Care" Hangover Gang For Life.

Can't love this reaction enough. This song resonates with me on a lvl of I have worked in 4 states in this great country. I am a subcontractor that has worked in multimillion dollar homes and I have worked in some of the most impoverished areas. Since I come from an area that has a large amount of black people I was always scheduled to work in the black areas when the time came. What I have witnessed in this country is a whole lot of cool white people and a whole lot of cool black people. Of course about every decade or so I will come across someone that is openly racist and that makes no difference what color their skin is. I can say that I am around your kids, I am around your pets, I am in your closet, and I am in your face. In 24 years the worst thing I've heard was from a white cpl telling me they call y'all sreggin, disgusting. And the worst thing a black person ever said to me was "y'all don't even care about us" cause I showed up without a mask. Funniest and most awkward comment I got from a black person was "boy you strong, I'd have to pistol whip yo ass". He was an older gentleman lol. All that being said I have been demonized on social media as a racist for supporting Trump and Q for 4 years. We all get stereotyped and that is intentional. The powers that be are terrified if we unite. Peace and love. ✌♥️🐸

I know this video is a year old, but I just wanted to say that I absolutely love and respect this reaction. This song actually made me open my mind to perspectives and knowledge I didn't know. I wish I could help change things. It breaks my heart to think that people aren't treated fairly in this world, and that instead of coming together to fix it, you have white people who deny it happens, and black people who hate white people because of it or the past. If I could have God answer one prayer for me, it would be that people in the world could set aside differences and start working together to make sure what's happened, and been happening, never happens again. Thank you so much for speaking out and reacting to this video. I want to understand so I can help be the change I want to see in the world. I love y'all's channel, and it truly gives me hope. Tom and Nova were out eating pizza when 2 African American men walk in and one had his hair braided and he said to Nova "If I was Black I'd braid my hair like that" he thought that was an odd thing to say "If I was Black". He ran home to write this. They were supposed to shoot the Buttholes video the next day but put that on hold for this one. I think this is some of the best work both Tom and Nova have done.

I am giving you a SUB! I really appreciate you acknowledging that we cannot completely understand what it is like to be a different race! It hit me! I am a 50 year old white man who grew up very poor! My parents divorced when I was 14. My Mother took a job in Moreno Valley, CA. and the only house we could afford was in the predominantly black area of Edgemont… which should tell everybody something about racial division! There were only two white families in my neighborhood. Spent the next 5 years trying to fit in, listening to gangster rap and dodging bullets. It was extremely difficult! I thank God every day for my black friends that didn’t judge me and had my back! I would not be here today to comment on your reaction if it were not for them! What Asia just said about knocked me on my ass! I had to stop to comment and SUB! Thank you both so much!!! Love ya!❤

I was watching some of my old favorites recently and came across, EN VOGUE, FREE YOUR MIND. This song gave me another perspective as well. They had such a fun upbeat vibe in that song but, it touched on some serious lyrics in it. If you haven't heard it or just want to listen to it again today is a perfect time for it to be remembered. The 80's was the best time for music in this country. There was a vast array of choices. Everything sounds the same that comes out now. I'm just glad I can still listen to all those great songs here on KZfaq. #HOG

Tom has a song called Castles that is so real, and about unity. I first watched it a few weeks ago and got a tear in my eye, actually. People tend to miss the point of Tom at times, but he's all about unity. People like T Mac can actually create discussion and dialogue, which we really need. Love ya all, glad I found your channel. Keep up the great work. :)

As someone who is an individualist, i find it very important to try and understand the other person’s perspective even if you don’t agree or experienced it yourself, it’s very hard to find a middle ground with anyone if all you do is refuse to understand the others point of view. This song is very important especially when you pair it with his song “ white boy”

I'm 40 year old white woman. And my perspective of this song is sad and beautiful. I have seen my black friends get treated different than me. And honestly it's sad to me. Sad that another human can treat another human this way. I think Tom has such a beautiful truth of his expression through Art on a music platform. May everyone open their hearts to the fullest. If I remember the background to this song correctly (#HOG please correct me if I'm wrong), the men in this video are not actors or musicians. He contacted an actual group of Black Panthers and asked them to listen to this song first and then asked them to be in the video. They agreed and this is what you see.

First time hearing this song. Tom is a trip. Huge balls for talking about the things he does. Mad respect to both of y’all from Houston Texas. I’ve never witnessed racism. I was raised to love all people. I hate everyone equally if you are trash. I’ve been to prison for drugs, never seen any privilege. I know this stuff exists though and seeing your thoughts on these subjects has been enlightening and eye opening. Love you guys.
