In fairness I saw them in a tiny venue on their first tour and they blew the doors off the place. They played Killing in The Name at least twice because they only had the first record to try and make up an hour! Tom has a masters in politics which I believe he got in Harvard(I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong!) so the whole arm the homeless thing on his guitar has always confused me to say the least..I'm a lefty European but many cases of homelessness are linked to mental illness or addiction.That's real,I've lost friends like that. Does he really want a heavily armed gang of schizophrenic crackheads to murder him and his bourgeois parents in their beds?!

‘Wish You Were Here’ has been totally overmolested in recent years. They’ve deleted the cough, used takes without the string squeaks, and even used alternate melodies and/or solos. Oh, and they’ve added a violin high in the mix🤮 It’s nauseating, IMO. It’s probably my favorite Floyd song, and 9/10 of the time I can’t bear to listen to what they’ve done to it.

There is a lot of confusion over basic terms like : Capitalism, Corporatism, Communism, Fascism, Socialism, Democracy, Republic, and soforth. If people don't agree on basic terms, conversation is impossible. I have talked to self-identified "communists" who are totally pro-Free Market, and I would place them on the Libertarian spectrum. I observe time and time again that people on the Left and the Right who are not radicals tend to agree on being anti-Corporatism/Monopoly/Globalist, but disagree on basic terminology and therefore see The Devil in each other.

I saw a tweet from someone who replied to a sign put up by a restaurant that said the homeless could ask for food rather than dig through their trash by saying "y'all support this but get offended when you hear the word socialism". Obviously a ton of people replied by pointing out charity and an economic system are different and I saw some kid trying to rebuke the replies by saying that he'd rather live in a government system where helping others is the goal rather than a government system where helping yourself is the goal (completely ignoring the difference between government and economics) and that "voluntary socialism is still socialism". This is a huge problem. People really don't understand the discussion they're having and miaunderstandings are unavoidable.

My understanding is that the mix on "Wish You Were Here" was deliberately unbalanced in order to represent someone jamming along with the radio, hence the radio tuning at the beginning. i'm not a musical expert BUT i have always thought the "cough/sniff/breathing" mistake was not a mistake at all, it's just pink floyd. pinkfloyd.fandom.com/wiki/Wish_You_Were_Here_(Song) About :26 into the recording, a cough can be heard, followed by a sniff at :31, then some faint breathing at :35, then :37-:42, when the opening acoustic solo starts up. It's rumored that at the time of recording, Gilmour's smoking habit caused him to cough during the solo and that he quit after hearing it played back during mixing; it's possible that the cough, sniff and breathing were intentionally or accidentally recorded and left in to bring character to the song. they were known for doing ANYTHING imaginable to get a sound that fit something for no reason other than they could. just like the guitar in the opening, it is pronounced and VERY hard not to notice; In the original album version, the song segues from Have A Cigar as if a radio had been tuned away from one station, through several others, and finally to a new station where this is beginning. Gilmour performed the intro on a twelve-string guitar, processed to sound like it was playing through an old transistor radio, and then overdubbed a fuller-sounding acoustic guitar solo. This was mixed to sound as though the guitarist was sitting in a room and playing along with the radio; it also contains a barely-audible whine that slowly changes pitch, emulating the heterodyne between two drifting AM signals, as if it's receiving radio interference. Brian Humphries was working with them and was familiar with the band and their style, but NOT familiar with abbey road studios layout and mistakes were made during the recording sessions. BUT the cough is way too pronounced for EVERYONE to miss and let slip by. in my opinion.

Brad, if memory serves, Kelly Groucutt, the late bassist of ELO, did the operatic vocal for Rockaria. Here's one I've noticed. @EntityZero RATM should not perform at a music festival if there's a serious conflict of interest (how big it is shouldn't matter), and ticket prices are not arbitrary but a function of the demand to attend (or be seen attending) a certain show. The fact is that RATM doesn't care because there's no actual conflict of interest, they love money.
@ChucksSEADnDEAD
@ChucksSEADnDEAD 4 жыл бұрын
@EntityZero "opportunity to make an explosive comeback at a large venue" "RATM doesn't control the ticket prices." - big contradiction here. The fact that it's a comeback makes their show more desirable. You can control prices by choosing to participate or not, if big artists chose not to perform at coachella it would devalue the admission price.

I like that Gibson included the competitor’s gear in the video. It makes it seem more about the vintage collection, vs Gibson’s themselves. This should pay off for getting players and collectors more interested in their “tv channel” content vs just feeling like you are getting marketed to.

I agree, about Morello & others. In the 70s there was duo called Seals & Croft, they had a few hits, some have become classics. They NEVER charged a dime for their concerts. Of course one had to send in letters for the seats at a show. They gave their royalties to their Spiritual leader, they were into done Eastern Hinduesque religion, if I remember. They had "Summer Breeze" & "Hummingbird Don't Fly Away" which were both huge hits, all my friends had their records, they were always on the radio.

It’s funny to me that the thing they call out as a mistake in the Kingsmen’s version of “Louie Louie” is dude exclaiming something unintelligible in the background and not when the freaking singer comes in a bar early with the verse, stops, waits, and then comes back in-after the solo at like the 2 min mark. One of my favorite rock n roll moments.

The irony with that is, communism takes a huge, very controlling gov to enforce it. That is the basic paradox that marxists seem to ignore. They claim to want freedom, but call for a big gov to enforce their 'freedom'. Makes no sense. Just like the marxists in antifa and blm, who claim to hate capitalism and corporations, yet receive millions from huge corporations, like nfl, nba, big tech, amazon, ect. Funny how that works.

@EntityZero "The band would go BROKE if they did that" - I mean, they have enough money to sustain themselves but even ignoring that... the argument is that capitalism can sustain a band while they can't come up with a decent alternative. What do they want, exactly? "you never actually explain how they're hypocrites for trying to make money for their work" - Because they're using capitalism. Why haven't they started their own commune? If their ideas are so great, why haven't they put the in practice? They'd rather continue making money than make a change. That's why they're hypocrites. Being rich is better than being a real revolutionary. "did you know that making music and going on tour costs money too?" - That's a schoolyard argument. You have to essentially ignore all the politics and economics of the argument and make it solely about the expenses of creating music. Well, they have enough money that they could be making music without any expense except living expenses, which they can easily afford. They already have the instruments and most likely can afford studio equipment. A lot of musicians spend one or two years just making music without actually releasing new albums or touring, simply making a living out of savings and residuals so the cost of doing music is just free time. "If you support a cause that's similar and you work a typical 9 to 5 job, why don't you quit if you support the movement?" - because most people don't support a cause that involve destroying an entire economic system and holding their own bosses at gunpoint to deprive them of their wealth.

"Wish You Were Here" I think is actually mixed very well. The rhythm guitar track is heavily filtered, noisy and panned way to one side to simulate the AM radio that precedes it at the end of "Have a Cigar". Imagine David Gilmour sitting in front of an old radio and playing along to it. He also deliberately coughs and sniffles a bit before he starts playing.

My two sons [one 19, the other 24] have discussions with the buddies pretty regularly about how tired they are of filtered over produced music and technology in general and about the future where they can go back to the roots of music. Musicians like Dave Grohl and John Butler are their heroes. I always had a wide variety of music in the house when they were growing up, just like my mum and dad did when I was a kid. I know there's good music out there now, and my kids are aware they just have to search for it a bit. They tell me they're bored with the whole hypnotized culture that for their whole life has promised so much and delivered so little. Gives me hope for the next generation and warms this old mans heart.

Japan has an extensive tradition of "national treasure" commendations. Sword makers, potters, calligraphers, all kinds of people who are considered valuable cultural assets. It's a super prestigious thing to receive and the idea is to stimulate young people to want to take up that craft and continue it so it doesn't die out. I have no idea what Jamaica is doing about Bob Marley's guitar, but if the man were alive, he would certainly qualify as a Jamaican national treasure.
