"They're playin' it in Boston." Thank you, Peter Wolf. ... Paul Hewson once said he loved Boston because it is off off Broadway. Bands could hang out, be themselves, and work out the kinks before hitting Manhattan, the media capital of the world. Heartbreaker double-bills with Geils and later the Outlaws are more fun than a teenager could ever have imagined. Even the HellsAngels were in a good mood that day, at the Coliseum. I was a kid, didn't know any better, walked over and asked the guy about his bike. He taught me the basics, total gentleman. If I ever get stuck with a groundhog day, I hope it's that day. God bless Tom, Mike, Stan, Benmont and Ron. 🙏

@@11ICONS another great artist who also had great sound, from my experience live, as well as recorded, was Charley Pride who we just lost this year due to the China Covid or coronavirus or whatever you want to call it. I always wanted to see him again. Saw him at the 1984 World's Fair at the Liggett Myers Amphitheater on the Mississippi River. During the song Roll on Mississippi, the curtains on the back of the stage opened up and the backdrop was the Mississippi River with the big paddle boats and the night View. That show should have been recorded. Good possibility it was and they just haven't released it

@@robertparker481 Soundguy's name is Robert Scovill and was with Petty for a long time. Before that he was with Def Leopard and devised a way through triggers and samples for the drummer to keep playing after losing an arm. Rob also pretty much invented Virtual Soundcheck which allows one to multitrack record a show then play it back through the soundboard as if the band were onstage, a revolutionary tool for sound guys. His board tapes are the basis for many a Petty live CD/video. That being said, as this is an MTV production the signal was probably split to a remote recording truck and multitrack to be mixed in a studio later. On the other hand, as good as Rob's recordings are, they may very well have just taken his multitrack to a studio and done the same.

It may have flew under the radar as far as radio, but Hypnotic Eye debuted at number one on the billboard 200 charts. Not many artists have ever had a number one album on their 40th anniversary and final tour. Too bad his work ethic kept him from canceling the tour due to his hip problem getting worse from touring. Then took a few too many pills and the rest is history. I always wanted to see him live. Oh well

Tom Petty's music is timeless. Listening to his songs is like warm sunshine on the face, it just feels right. The man had MAD talent and this concert was one where this band was so tight. every song just grooved and to think that in only a short time he would be gone. yes we have dvds, we have records and videos but the soul has left us.......and it still is hard to think that there will be no more concerts. RIP Tom, ROCK the clouds.....we'll be listening bro.....sleep well!
@80spenn37
@80spenn37 4 жыл бұрын
Michael - I have been thinking about your point: "yes we have dvds, we have records and videos but the soul has left us". What is beautiful about artists, including recording artists, is that while the soul (meaning the physical person) is, after death, no longer with us on this earth, their soul (meaning that which is/was embodied in ones life, thoughts, feelings and actions) is alive and well in their art, including their dvds, records, and videos (a million "thank you's" to KZfaq). That said, I agree wholeheartedly that it is hard to accept that there will be no more new concerts or new songs that those universes of the artist's soul are now finite. For those reasons, my KZfaq searches for TP and TPHB videos (or even audio only clips) are never-ending. In fact, today I heard a "new" version of "Listen to Her Heart" (one of my all-time favorites), and it did not disappoint. You can see it here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/b9J0gpqbtLGwj58.html. Enjoy and God Bless TP and TPHB.

His memory and music will be exist long for more years then any of us will live for. I feels we're very lucky for a man like Tom Petty to play his guitar and sing in our lifetime. He will be miss by all of us.

My favorite performer from the first time I heard American Girl in 1982, to the first concert in 1986, to the last concert in 2017. To say that I've grieved his death for years is an understatement, never felt that for anyone outside of immediate family before, that shows the power of truly great music, lyrics, personality, the whole package. God bless you Tom for making my life a little bit better.

I got out my LTD and played along. The hardest part for me was the ending of the final song where they went on and on. I kept strumming and thought that it would never end! My fingers went numb and my pick went flying. It was then I knew how much they put into their concert. Amazing. How I miss these guys.

Got a pair of tickets from my boss for this show. He got them but wasn't going. Snapped them up as a surprise for my wife. Our wedding anniversary is August 31st, and this was on the 30th. We had a great time. Steve Winwood opened. It was a cool night for August. Awesome show and it ended up being the last time we got to see Tom in concert. Still can't believe he is gone. Thank you Tom Petty for all the music and the memories. Gone too soon. RIP.

Thanks for posting this GREAT show. Petty was a real crowd pleaser and sadly that's what took him when he had a fractured hip and continued to play on pain killers. I feel sorry for the band who are so much a part of his legacy. He and they were TRULY a great American band to remember.

There is no doubt you make the most accurate statement I have read. "HE WILL NEVER BE REPLACED." EVER!!!!!!!! This isn't a statement from a fan or a guy from an era who has tunnel vision and no desire to see other talent that is all around us, amazing talent!!. It's just become the inevitable truth that Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers were possibly the greatest rock band ever. I'm trying to prove myself wrong just so I can say its just my own opinion but really and truly, I can't. I'm almost 50 years old and have played music for over 25 years so I know what to look for and I can't do it. And you know what harder I look and fail the more I smile.
