A Best Show Gem. Tom Scharpling talks about Billy Crystal's appearance at Comic Relief 2006. Absolutely hilarious stuff. Everybody should listen to The Best Show on WFMU, Tuesdays at 9 PM. I don't own this video or anything, I'll take it down at Tom or WFMU's request.

"Terlet", "Mockin'boids". That's how my grandfather pronounced those words. Thing is, he was born in North Bergen, NJ in 1904. Why would an elderly black man from New Orleans have the same accent? Tom S. and I don't see eye to eye politically, so much respect to him for calling out this garbage. I love the disdain in his voice when he says "the licorice stick..."

New Orleans has a strange accent; it’s not purely Southern. There is a lot of NY/NJ in it. White people talk like that down there.

Probably because Opie and Anthony had a ton of actual racism, so it felt weird for them to "call out" Billy Crystal for it. Tom is an actual decent human being. (I also listened to O&A for years as well, so not judging lol)

I saw him last night on the Tonight Show, and he has become one of those old entertainers who endlessly prattles on and on about every single bit of minutiae in a story, total diahrrea of the mouth. It took him over 5 minutes to tell a 30 second anecdote that was already stale and overused.

So your problem is that he is Jewish, and not black, and cannot play a black character? Do no people not talk like that? Do you have any racially charged antic dotes of him saying racist things while not doing a comedy act? Your case for racism is weak, and as awesome as Willie Nelson is(not THE Willie Nelson), you are a comedian and should be able to take a joke and see what imitation is, the highest form of flattery.
