I was into Tom Scott and Dave Grusin after watching Baretta on my father's tv in 1975. I remember taping Tom's scores right from the speaker to the cassette recorder's mic! Thanks for uploading a nice video of the JAMZ days.

I've came here to listen to Tom Scott, but the one who smashed me with damn great solo was guy on keyboards, that was amazing!

@rzadka holy crap you aren't kidding! I've never seen anyone use the pitch bender so well. It sounded more like a guitar than a keyboard. I thought his whole solo sounded very guitar influenced. Freaking great!

one of the best melodies of all time.. And start it from the fifth and root instead of just the minor third? and do it in all 12 keys

Why hasn't anyone mentioned the band that were the original creators of this tune? The one and only AVERAGE WHITE BAND...!! Check out another of their classic tunes: Cut The Cake. 5 blokes from Dundee, Scotland, who had 2 mega albums: AWB and Cut the Cake, and a string of singles between 1974-1980. Pick up The Pieces was a multi-million selling instrumental for them and a dance floor fave world wide during the latter half of the 70's...! Interesting fact - they are the 15th most sampled band in music history...the list of performers who have sampled their music is a veritable who's-who. of modern music!

What a pity for the sampled brass, with a true brass section it would have been a masterpiece.

I love Tom Scott and love this tune. The rhythm section is smokin'. But I just can't deal with the fake keyboard horn section. Ruins it for me. Sorry.
