When Ethan explains how he would want to eat in private at the end of the night, it floored me how familiar that felt. But when he made the comment about getting burgers at the 7/11 because somehow it was ok for those clerks to see him that way... Holy shit, that hit home in a big way. I've never said anything like that out loud, and I'm a pretty open book. What a dark and gross thought, but I've had it and I'm glad he shared it. I hate all this body positive stuff going around today. You shouldn't be nasty to people and harass them, everyone knows that. "God grant me the strength to change the things I can and accept what I cannot" I'm not religious but this sentiment is overflowing with truthiness. I'm really happy for Ethan.

@MrChristopho A big help was the wrestler diamond dallas pages yoga program just to get my body moving, then everyday I would watch some sort of weight loss success story. I cut cut my calories to 1000-1200 a day, I would only eat in a 7 hour window as well so I was fasting for 17 hours. And exercising an hour a day, manly walking for the first 3 months. I sounds a lot and it does take dedication but honestly after 2-3 weeks you get in such a routine and you feel the benefits instantly it becomes 2nd nature. If you're just starting out mate good luck. If I can do it anyone can 👍 oh and take photos so you can see your progress, that helped immensely.

One of the reasons I am uncomfortable about the “healthy at any size” movement is it attempts to strip away the validity of a story like Ethan’s. Imagine being 400-500 pounds and celebrating that as “healthy” ... then there’s Ethan who’s grinding out this new life for himself and hearing about people who don’t view this weight loss as a noble endeavor. And now we have magazine covers celebrating obesity, claiming its healthy. Do naturally bigger people exist? Of course! But morbid obesity is not healthy and should never be justified as such. I’ve been struggling with my weight for 10+ years and take great inspiration from Ethan.

My problem with "healthy at any size" is that I'm 5'7 and pushing 350lbs. My blood pressure has went through the roof, I've started having issues with the lower discs in my back (causing severe pain if I stand for more than a couple minutes without something to lean on), I have frequent chest pains, and I run out of breath just taking a shower. The last thing I need is someone telling me that it isn't because I'm fat, and that I can still be healthy at this size. I also don't need to hear that I should be happy with how I look, and not think that I need to be a certain size to look good. There's a big difference from thinking that you need to lose 20lbs. so that you look like that supermodel on the magazine cover, and being hundreds of pounds overweight and accepting that you're fat and humans aren't designed to be that large. I never thought I would live in a world were there's "fit shaming" lol. People like Ethan should be made examples of. To see someone that really was at that far end of the spectrum of weight, not only lose the weight, but also bulk up and look as good as he does...that's truly inspirational right there.

People hear things like you can (truly) be 20 pounds overweight and it's not an issue for your health and so they expand it to cover whatever extent they are overweight, and part of that is because they simply don't want to put the effort into changing their lifestyle. Because it's easier to tell everyone else they're wrong for calling you unhealthy than it is to overhaul your life. And the healthy at any weight moment is comprised almost entirely of people who are overweight. But you know who you don't see much of flying that banner? Physicians. Because there's no one with a medical degree who's worth a damn who would ever agree it's totally ok to be 100+ pounds overweight.

Ethan is such a solid dude and I related to his struggle with trying to do insane diets to lose weight right away. When I started losing weight I was just eating a chicken breast a day thinking it was healthy. It’s a hard mindset to grow out of.
@von...
@von... 3 жыл бұрын
seen so many friends fail constantly because of this mindset. tbh the only ones I brought along with my journey, from "thicc" to "being able to see my dick", are the people who committed to intermittent fasting & those who found a time period that worked best for them. My old roommate who started with me had the biggest transformation when he realized that he doesn't need breakfast & shifted his 8 hour window from noon to 8pm eating 3 small meals throughout that & from 2pm to 10pm on days he planning on drinking. if you go all "oh I feel like shit in the morning I am not going to eat" until you are insanely irrational and hungry you are just going to MAX on total BS when you finally crack & the cycle continues. If you dont get hungry when you need to eat, using cannabis is your friend (assuming it works for you). thats how I started eating at normal times & not just 2am in excess lol
@charlesvail4903
@charlesvail4903 3 жыл бұрын
@@von... could not relate more. The chicken breast a day phase is when I was doing heavy intermittent fasting, which is how I dropped 60 pounds in a few months. Went ham on cardio, burning 1000 cals a day on that alone, 7 days a week. A lot of people think you can eat anything when intermittent fasting, so they don’t see changes. 3 trips to mickey d’s while IF is not going to give the outcomes they want. Also, I have been seeing some dumb shit about people saying IF is “an eating disorder”. Like what the fuck is that about???

Thanks for the interview Tom and Ethan. I was 300+ in high school and college (325 max) and decided to lose weight after another friend lost weight. I got down to 185 my senior year of college and maintained that for a few years, however, I had the same feeling that Ethan had. Now I’m too frail. 13 years later and I’m now ~200 and feeling good in my skin. I sometimes have bouts of stress that I don’t look like I should but I have to remind myself that I did something really hard and I’ve maintained it.

I've always been a big fan of Ethan Suplee. This video was incredible and honestly emotional. My older brother passed away in October 2020. He was obese (close to the weight of Ethan when he was at his biggest) and he had mental health problems too (nothing severe just anxiety/depression). But in July I sat with him and we talked about him needed to get healthier. He agreed and I was able to match him with a personal trainer named Big Mike (this dude looks like the hulk). He started training and loved it. He was losing weight and happy and looking good. I knew it was gonna take time but he also had sleep apnea so that got in his way. I miss him so much because he was fighting to get his old life back and he was training HARD. Now, I carry that legacy by eating right, hitting the gym 5-6 times per week for 2 hours, and staying active. This video was tough but I'm glad I watched it through.

This is actually a pretty fuckin amazing insight into what it takes to lose a lot of weight. In 2013 I decided after 20 years of being at least 50 lbs overweight I made the decision to just stop. I worked out every other day in a small, shitty studio apartment in NYC. I ate nothing but vegetables and chicken constantly. In 2014 I was down 105lbs. No crash diets or pills, and I didn't even walk into a gym. It was the hardest thing I've ever done, until I got into the maintenance portion.
