@@DavidDavid-jb1cy Just because he knows about cars doesn't mean he knows or cares about paint quality/protection or how to care for such - a car's paint can be scratched from merely running your finger over it let alone chucking leather bound books around - what I/we are saying is I'd be rather more careful about the paint on a car costing hundreds of thousands less than an F40

Great video Tom. I'll never be able to afford one bar a lottery win but so informative. I was lucky to have a factory tour in Maranello in early summer 1988 or 1989 when I was 14/15 (can't remember exactly - it was pre 348 defo) and remember seeing the F40s in the factory alongside 328s, Mondials, TRs and 412s. I still have a postcard from Brenda Vernor confirming my invite, I wrote to her directly having read an interview with her in CAR magazine. She also sent me a brochure signed by Piero Lardi Ferrari. How different it was pre internet!

Legit video, worth watching for S.Moss story alone. Wealth of knowledge of course, with touch of snobbery towards US spec cars. While those might be somewhat inferior to Euro models in many aspects, they hold their charm in other areas: lack of ugly fog lights on rear bumper, better integration of air vents etc. Fuel tanks are whole separate topic.

I can remember when Keith from the Prodigy traded in his F40 about 20 years ago. It was up for 150k for a year or two. The salesman had to air out the car as it stunk of marijuana. You could hear him and his buddy in a 993 GT2 from about 2 miles away when they came for servicing. Wonderful days before investors started buying them - you had a chance of seeing or hearing them on the road or track days. Better yet, there was a chance of buying one then.

Fascinating, and entertaining - thanks for this. With the number of F40s built, I can now see how a picture can be built up as to what makes the 'right' kind of car. With fewer example models such as the 288GTO (my favourite car since it was introduced) it must be more down to individual scrutineering? BTW, Johnathon must've been raging with you leaning on and resting the books on the spoiler...

I'm another dreamer but it would be my first purchase if my lottery numbers came up, till then I have to make do with my scale model that's been on display everywhere I've lived since 1988. I do find it sad that these cars are seen as a commodity, an investment like buying shares or something when I'm sure enzo and all the designers that created the f40 thought of it as a machine to be driven and enjoyed and if a 30 year old car has 1500 miles on it it certainly hasn't been enjoyed very often. It seems like a waste to me.
@banditcoots3 жыл бұрын
I know what you mean but you can still drive under a thousand miles per year and still enjoy it. I mean it would be purely recreational driving so you could enjoy it, run it, and yet still keep the mileage low. Best case would be to have 2 of them, one to drive however much you want and one to simply keep it going at 100 miles per year.
