Tom Tom Club began as a side project of Talking Heads' rhythm section: the bass of Tina Weymouth and the drums of Chris Frantz. The group's music was a staple of parties and clubs back then, and the music took on a life of its own in various samples and remakes, especially in the pop hit "Genius of Love." Watch the legendary band perform in a rare acoustic set at the NPR Music offices.

Still love you Tina, you're the reason why I took up Bass. Thank you all sooooooooo much for this! I was eleven years old bumping "Genius" on a generic type walkman heading to LA on a church group tour bus. "Wordy" takes me back to the partying we did at The Sea Ranch, CA when parents were out. Oh the memories!

I wish Tiny Desk Concerts would get back to this type of performance, it's a lot more fun with it totally stripped down to acoustic instruments than it is to just have a band play behind a desk

So happy that Julie and I were able to see Tom Tom Club live once in our lifetimes. Chris had a huge smile the entire time. Tina n the band kept it hopping in spite of very windy conditions. Their love of music was palpable.

Wow, they bring a bit of a flamenco touch to those first two numbers! It's wild to hear the acoustic guitar, accordion, washboard, hand clapping, and reggae scat--but strangely right. Love it!
