@Theleanworkshop5 жыл бұрын
The joke at 1:15 went right over Fallon's head. He was pointing at how people like cabbies and barbers run their mouths about what's wrong with this or that situation - and what should be done instead - as if they've got it all figured out. And they spend their whole day telling everyone they meet (i.e. "solving the world's problems)". Fallon giggled and clapped and then said "Yeh... Isn't that amazing, right? I agree with you. [then, thinking he suddenly understood it, his tone picked up, and he started clapping and giggling] Hehehe! I absolutely I agree with that!" But... Waits was being sardonic. I can only imagine that awkward moment where Waits knew it would be more embarrassing to stop and explain. You can actually see Waits take a drink and look off to his right and then stare off at the floor ahead to allow the moment to pass and save both of them from further embarrassment.
@glenngriffon80324 жыл бұрын
That's because Fallon has no idea how to converse intelligently. He's got no idea how to talk to this man. Waits is someone who steeps himself deep in americana and history and politics, he reads about culture and philosophy. He's an intelligent, well read, well travelled man. Fallon on the other hand is a comedian. And he's not a very good comedian either. He has no idea how to really entertain, he just reads his script and says the funny haha words and occasionally makes little quips that he thinks are intelligent zingers. He's out of his depth on this show and far out of his league trying to trade jokes with Waits. He's embarrassing himself up there. He reminds me of a little yappy dog. Like a little, fluffy yappy mutt that gets way too excited and you worry he's gonna widdle on the carpet.
@Jumper2k54 жыл бұрын
So much unnecessary hate I guess that's all the comment section is for. I doubt it... hed probably think you are a piece of shit talking about a guy you don't even know like this it's kinda sad really you probably go through your whole life acting like you just stepped in a heaping pile of dog crap just looking for a reason to snap off on someone for something you don't like about them.

Well if you don't like furniture, you probably like waits. Old at twelve, young at 30, Waits is a psychological, monster of macabre reason. No midnight train, alone, waiting at the station...walk home and hum a tune. Ten miles of humming can make a man crazy. Dogs snapping, guns pointed, police asking, ten miles, and a new tune. The dark is the life behind the iron curtain of sunset.

I have been a huge fan of Waits for almost 20 years now. He has always been in my top three of Tool, Tom Waits and The Velvet Underground. Let me ask you, is that comment you wrote completely original? Because I searched through Google and found nothing even close, so I assume that you just made it up right here on the spot. Either that or you had written it somewhere in real life and had just never bothered with posting it anywhere online. Either way, if that is your original writing, then I have to commend you. It is very, very good. I'd say that you managed to capture Waits as perfectly as you could in so few words. My only complaint is that it isn't longer and more detailed. And that is not a criticism of the quality, but rather a celebration of it, in that it leaves me wanting to hear more. I'd love for you to reply back so I could have a little dialogue with you.

For some reason, I feel compelled to tell you to watch 'Shakes The Clown'. Tom is not in it- so I am not sure why my brain chose this movie, but if you haven't seen it, you should. Apparently it is a message from the universe. Or just me, but you should see it anyway. Bobcat wrote and stars in it. And almost every comedian from that time are in it. Including Mrs. Brady- can't remember her real name, who I know is not a comedian, but was fantastic.

He seems excited to be in Tom's presence. I know I would be.
