Best way to add production value to your videos and films is by moving the camera in a precise way. Dolly allows you to move the camera left and right, BUT a crane makes your videos look even more epic by smoothly moving the camera up and down.

Thanks for doing this jib crane demo. I've learned the hard way that any counterbalance weight that can swing will impart unintended motion into the system unless you have a p/a to hold the weights. I will only use fixed weights, unless I forget, or just can't bring the heavy fixed weights along.

True. Fixed weights are always better because they don't move at all.

I was thinking of one of these but the downside for me is that it does not follow the action whereas when you move the boom arm up the camera angle stays the same, is it possible to get anything where you can change the camera angle to say pointing downwards as you raise the camera. I know this would be difficult as you would be shooting blind but maybe tether it so you could see what the camera is taking. Thanks for the video very useful.

I cant level the tripod head. the bowl where you place the camera head is 75-85 mm , it didn't make sense form the beginning since it does fit the head but doesn't allow for adjustment . I think the only solution is to shoot a little wider and crop in post after i rotate the frame. that is a disappointment. it is heavy material that should be sturdy but poorly finished. I don't feel perfectly safe with it.

Estimating weight needed. It's a simple math equation. Distance x Weight on one side must equal Distance x Weight on the other. Example: A 5 lb. Camera 10 feet out would be 50 foot pounds (5 x 10 = 50). On the other side we must add weight to balance. At various distances...1 ft would require a 50 lb. weight. At 2 ft...would require a 25 lbs. weight. At 5 ft...would require a 10 lb weight. Got it?

Tom, isn't there a simple lock on the pan- so when you are only lifting 'the z' the camera does not go to and fro. Sort of took away from the quality of the shot but it was ever present, and I was wondering... WHY? Luckily you hovered over came.tv.com logo in the early assembly part, since the v.o was not hyping the model.

Its stable as you can see in this video. I went all the way up or down and it was a VERY windy day. How stable depends on the operator of course. Its the same as with a steadicam. If you're horrible at operating then the best steadicam wont help you.

Hi Tom! Got a quick question, just got the smaller version from Came-tv. The end section where you thread on the counterweights seems impossible to lock with the locking collar ? Doesnt matter how hard i tighten it the end section is still lose and will slide out if tilted down. It's like it's to thin. I didn't get any instructions, but i assume i got a faulty unit ? Thanx for any input!

@choppyplays6187
@choppyplays6187 9 жыл бұрын
GH4. Black Magic Pocket Camera barely works out of box, and you would have to cough up well over hundreds of dollars to just make the thing production ready. Battery only lasts around 20-25 minutes on BMPC.
@AbstrakMedia
@AbstrakMedia 9 жыл бұрын
I've owned both the GH4 is a better run n gun camera and has slow mo. The Pocket has better latitude and color you can get an external battery for less than a hundred that last 7-8 hours. And two 64GB cards will get you around 2 hours of Pro Res HQ. If you want to practice shooting and grading professional log style footage get the pocket. The pocket works fine out the box lol . It does have quirks but its a beast.
@universaInformation

I have canon lenses, would I be able use them ? I like 50mm 1.8f lens would like to use it..currently I have canon 70d thinking if it worth to switch to BMPC or GH4 I want more movie look.
@AbstrakMedia
@AbstrakMedia 9 жыл бұрын
Janissary m If you have a lot of EF Glass and go with the pocket you would need to get the Metabones EF Speedbooster. This will give you the same APS-C crop factor as your 70D. So your 50mm will be around 85mm, the bmpcc definitely has a more filmic quality to it. It also has a better codec, the GH4 is very capable though I'm not knocking it. I sold mines to get the BMPC4K to go with my pocket.

I think that these cranes are not worth of buying. They are too expensive foreseeing the fact, that you balance crane movement yourself. It does not have automatic movement mode, you can't move the crance with hands ideally. Now if you want natural camera movement, you don't need this crane at all. This is my opinion
