Its not like the dev dont want to share their development progress, they do it to prevents misleading article about their game which could hurt their sales.

It's a bit of a slippery rope here cause in a way if you do that and the end product doesn't align with the development process then things can go bad. A month ago EA Motive showcased an early build for the Dead Space Remake and if you notice they showed what we would expect aka the combat and how the zero g parts would have Isaac use his thrusters instead of jumping around.

Regresses; gets severely worse than what was begun. How dare you say the trashy interactive movie is better than the actual game we could've had instead.

Honestly, they totally could pull this off as some sort of single extra game for Tomb Raider. Especially now that the new trilogy seems to be done for a while, they totally could throw an extra game out. With how many positive comments there are about Ascension, I believe it would be a great opportunity as well.

Exactly! I remember reading a description for the TR reboot back in the day that sounded nothing like what we got and I was super confused as to why. Now that I know the game in my head actually existed at one point, I really wish I could play it.

This! Tomb raider 2013 was something that i never expected them to make, it was amazing, tomb raider will always be in my top games (specially 1-5) thru sickness and health but this, this could have been something special, i grew up with horror genre too, i personally didn't like rise and shadow, or legend and underworld.

Just what I said! They could work on this further and bring this out as sort of an exclusive / single game with no second or third game. Just this one, I believe people would be extremely hyped considering how much of joy those past behind the scenes videos the channel uploads currently is bringing to the fans! I would die to play this game to be honest.

The main character is not Lara Croft, but rather one of the Endurance crew members, maybe an engineer (someone clever enough to craft a flamethrower). She wakes up in one of the temples or in the Shanty Town after the events of the 2013 game, and Yamatai is now a ghost island after the Sun Queen's ghost has been vanquished. Undead WWII soldiers, ghosts of people Lara killed, and victims of the Sun Queen worshipers, other creatures of the night. The goal is the same - escape the island - but this time the island is 100% open world and your goal is to find engine parts and boat parts while struggling against aforementioned monsters and maybe trying to survive in extreme weather conditions. Game title: Ghosts of Yamatai.

I do think the horror elements would work with TR, especially the chase scene with the giant, but too many of these enemies are like... generic Devil May Cry/Infamous drones. They have no personality other than "booo! I'm spooky." Obviously they're early concepts. Tomb Raider is definitely no stranger to horror elements. There's a great viral video about how TR1 is actually a horror game, and TR2 was pretty terrifying at some points, like when you're in the pitch black room and all the yetis are screaming into the darkness in Catacombs of the Talion. I do think horror-lite would be a good move for Tomb Raider, but it would need to be a bit more mature than the kinda soulless DMC monster mash they were going for here.

I completely disagree. Tomb Raider always had a creepy, horror element. Atlantis from Tomb Raider 1, if done in next gen it would actually be disturbing to look at. That includes floating islands from TRII , TR III Antarctica and the mutations (including Willard), TR Chronicles Ireland and AOD which also had a very dark and twisted vibe. Ascension definitely had a place in the TR world.

you can't really tell all that much from the video. It shows nothing about the setting or how the combat or anything really would have been like. It's concept art. Basically throwing ideas at the wall. You say it wouldn't actually be a Tomb Raider game? It literally is a Tomb Raider game. The very early stages of one, but one nonetheless. It became TR2013. I'm a game tester. I've seen how games evolve through development many times. If they went back and developed the ideas in this video that didn't make it into TR2013 or the others into a 4th Tomb Raider game, you probably wouldn't even recognize it by the time they were done. You might even say it's the best one yet.

lara croft taod was the perfect balance of classic gameplay/world and creepy storyline/enemies, it would be great to see a remake or sequel. In this footage it is clear that there is a lot of influence from taod, even the animations (even if incomplete) are very reminiscent

@GiRayne bro what. The classic TR games literally had a bunch of dark and sinister elements in them. Not necessarily horror, but it set a spooky tone combined with all the music and jump scares. Angel of Darkness was the closest to what TR had been prior, but darker. Think of soundtracks like "The Puzzle Element" / "Something Spooky in that Jungle" from TR 3 and the T Rex theme from TR 1 and tell me thats not dark, mysterious / spooky whatever you wanna call it.

@GiRayne The London underground levels of TR 3, The Kurtis sequence from AoD and various other levels throughout the series served as a good example of more potentially dark and sinister elements. Not that a whole TR game should be based on that, but the series was definitely exploring those parts throughout its lifecycle, thats why people associate those elements with the series.

@GiRayne I personally loved the story ideas for AoD and it went into a darker, more serious story of Lara trying to solve a mystery of the Monstrum serial killer. The AoD trilogy could have been AMAZING if it wasn't forced out way before it was ready, scrapping half of the mechanics they were trying to include, and leaving the game a very buggy and clunky mess. This caused the rest of the trilogy to be cancelled, when I personally think it could've been one of the best in the series, story-wise.

Nah they were probably just using the model as a placeholder untill the model artist finished the one for the project. There's test fotage of legend with the AOD lara model, this happens all the time.

@@ghost_emre_a7710 In conceptual phase they don't have the full idea yet of how the final game will be. So they were testing stuff to see what works with the ideas the Designer came up for the game. This wasn't the 2012 reebot, but wasn't a sequel to the LAU trilogy ether. Most of this was scrapped in favor of the reboot. I do wish we've gotten this instead of what ended up being the final game and the trilogy tough since this is way more in line with what came before, and I despise reboot Lara. But, there's no way to say, based on the thigns we have on this project Assention, that this would be the same Lara from the LAU trilogy, even if in this early build they were using the Underworld model. Like I said, it was definetly a placeholder.

@The_damag3 & The spy it has horror elements for sure, and there are many as well in the final version. I think you should search for final hour of tomb raider (i think it is free on Steam?). Even the developer themself felt that TR Ancension was not the direction that could relive the franchise again. Especially that TR franchise was on the line between totally disappear (because the Underworld fail to meet SE expectation [sales ofc]. And even some of you denied the success of TR 2013, but it did save both the developer and the franchise atleast in terms of sales and critics. I know it needs a lot to be better, and at the end of the document, dev asked fans whom purchased the TR 2013 what can they do to improve the franchise moving forwards after playing the reboot. That is why you saw the improvement in Rise of the Tomb Raider which imo, still the most balance in terms of combat - puzzle - exploration. Sadly, SotTR was rushed and developed by different studio instead of letting CD continue improve from Rise. Edit: it was hard to explain everything, that is why i keep asking you guys to search the Final Hours of Tomb Raider document and read for yourself to understand why they changed and chose the direction of TR reboot.

To be fair Croft Manor in Rise of the Tomb Raider was pretty creepy and the Baba Yaga dlc was kinda creepy too.

A lot of the animation and combat seem to be imported directly from the Legend trilogy as a placeholder and reference point.

Too horror. Too Silent Hill, nothing to do with Tomb Raider. Horror in Tomb Raider should be done as was in TR1 and Chronicles (which was very close to this Ascension).

@@graveraider1029 i enjoyed the gameplay actually, i liked the mini hub areas, mini tombs aswell but i do think yeah not much puzzles and dual pistols haha but i personally loved it, a next gen lara was so good to look at 😅

I think having monsters and demons to fight makes more sense than 150 people living on a damn island for years with very little access to food and medical supplies while fending off undead Japanese soldiers of the Edo period.

Exactly. Tomb Raider Ascension would've felt more like a natural evolution after Underworld. It would've even become the fourth installment of Legend trilogy, whereas TR (2013) was a complete drastic reboot, which obviously turnt out great but I feel like they robbed us out of a masterpiece that the TR: Ascension could've been back in the early 2010s.
