How did Go rate lower than Prophecy when the script itself had more praises for Go than Prophecy which was all negative criticism?

I don't know it's stupid even the temple Run game seemed better than prophecy the only real argument is that it's kind of boring but when you're ranking stuff from worst to best boring stuff goes in the middle not at the worst side not good not bad just mid that's how this type of thing should Go it goes from bad to mid to good this type of ranking system has been around for a while they have no excuse for not knowing how to do it

I think that Underworld is extremely underrated. I love modern TR games, I like older ones, but Underworld just strikes the right balance somewhere between them. Great enviromental design, puzzles of just right difficulty, everything is so good that it makes it the ultimate TR experience for me.

Totally agree! It's exactly how you do a completely new spinoff with new gameplay mechanics but still retain the spirit of Tomb Raider's DNA; puzzle-solving, collecting hidden treasures, maneuvering your way around predatory animals. I got into Tomb Raider during the middle child portion of the franchise making the Underworld/Legend/Anniversary trilogy was my first experience with Lara. So that trilogy will always hold a very strong place in my gaming heart. I think my biggest issue is that the two story DLCs for Underworld aren't available on PC but were only ever on the 360 which really hurts Underworld's overall story and replayability nowadays. The DLC also offered something new with you being able to play as the super powered doppelganger of Lara which was so much fun and a nice change from the base game
@ChrisLT

I got into TR with the PS1 games, but that trilogy was fantastic. Legend is a fun romp, Anniversary did a ton of cool stuff with those original ideas, and Underworld is the most ambitious take on that classic exploration puzzle formula. Some of those tombs were gigantic, no idea how I beat them without KZfaq tutorials.

Tomb Raider 3 is the one I ALWAYS remember playing the most. The levels were just INSANE. Underworld is also SO underrated, such a fun game. Legends is also really fun. I did like Rise of the Tomb Raider more than the first of the reboot, and I havent gotten to properly play Shadow of the Tomb Raider, but idk... they're fun action games, and have good puzzles, but there's something about the original version TR1 thru Chronicles that's just better. I prefer the olden tank controls with the grid game design.

@@motionblur-91 probably if I had to rate the main line games, I'd go: 1. Tomb Raider 2 (The unforgiving first level, Venice Violins, the sunken ship, the Barkhang Monastery, the tension of Home Sweet Home at the end and crashing through the windows in a boat during the Venice levels make this an unforgettable game that I visit way too often) 2. Tomb Raider 3 (Brutal but also bold in how it challenges the player like in Area 51, the waterfall raft and hyperthermia in the Antarctica stages) 3. Tomb Raider 1 (Can't deny everything it did for the gaming industry and always fun to get back into but I think the following two games perfected old school Tomb Raider) 4. Tomb Raider Last Revelation (Definitely some bad levels in the latter part of the game but really felt like tomb raiding) 5. Tomb Raider Anniversary (Used to love this way more but they did place a great deal of hallwalls when replacing some sections of the original) 6. Tomb Raider Legend (Fun globe trotting adventure but a bit too easy) 7. Shadow of the Tomb Raider (more old school than the other two titles in the trilogy with a greater focus on puzzles) 8. Tomb Raider Angel of Darkness (Great puzzles, story and setting let down by being undercooked) 9. Rise of the Tomb Raider (more variety and found a bit of its old identity but still a pew pew fest for the most part) 10. Tomb Raider Underworld (Openness was refreshing but pretty forgettable levels with a bad last stage) 11. Tomb Raider Chronicles (Series fatigue and more meh levels than great) 12. Tomb Raider 2013 (Really removed itself from being a Tomb Raider game, good game but nothing like past entries)

My personal top 5: 1) TR2 2) Legend 3) Angel of Darkness 4) TR1 5) Chronicles I know AoD had terrible controls but I absolutely loved the lore behind it and the atmosphere (the music alone was fantastic), plus Lara was so sassy and came out with some great lines! And I liked Chronicles because it was the first game I was able to beat on my own when I was younger, so it'll always hold a place in my heart. I do absolutely understand why they aren't high on people's list though. I didn't mind the reboot trilogy but for me it all kind of blended into one and it was very straightforward- I preferred the older style of puzzles, but of course each to their own! So much love for this series through its ups and downs though, truly a masterpeice of a franchise ❤

My personal top 5 ranking: 1. Legend - It was the first Crystal Dynamics one and managed to modernize the formula while retaining all the core pillars. It was diverse, dynamic and... simply stupid fun with some great physics puzzles. Apart from the ridiculous (but a staple of the time) QTE scenes, one of the best TR games, hands down. 2. Rise of the Tomb Raider - The best one of the new trilogy, had an engaging set of open levels, diverse challenges, great story and one of the very few which made me actually feel like an archeologist. 3. Tomb Raider II - The original is awesome, but as said in the video, this one builds a lot on top of it and has some of the most memorable levels in the series. Only flaw to me is the vast amount of gun-toting bullet-sponge enemies, which ruin the fun sometimes. 4. Last Revelation - Best of the original run, the formula perfected. Hardest, but most satisfying puzzles in the series. Good writing. But oh, boy, the pacing is terrible and a lot of levels overstay their welcome (climbing the Great Pyramid, anyone?). Still... great game, also the first one I played. 5. Underworld - Underrated and some might say, generic, but it was a lot of stupid spectacle fun in the same way Uncharted was at the time. For some reason however, Nathan Drake got more attention with his second outing than Lara did with this one, which will never not make me sad. I don't know in what condition Callum was when they wrote this list, but come on - the amount of praise a game at the lowest spot got, compared to the laundry list of flaws cited for some of the higher entries was strange at the very least. Please, proof these things before VO, I love hearing Jess' voice and seeing her smile, but when she has to read something so half-heartedly assembled, it makes me feel sorry for her.

i also agree with the ranking of the survivor trilogy, rise of the tomb raider deserved to be on the top of this list. tomb raider 2013 was already a league of it's own but rise of the tomb raider improved massively in a lot of areas, most noticeably the graphics and lara's model. lara from rise of the tomb raider is the peak design out of all the laras and the most realistic. also the replayability is another thing i like about it, the tr 2013 relied on multiplayer for replayability whereas the 2015 added more side content and post story challenges. it also has the best intro out of any in the series, that icy mountain climbing during a powerful blizzard was phenomenal. i could go on and on why it's the best might as well write a book about it 😂shadow of the tomb raider i initially disliked but overtime started to grow on me after a 3rd playthrough. you'll have more appreciation for the 2nd and 3rd game in the trilogy if you play them on higher end pc specially the lighting and details on shadow of the tomb raider, which also happens to have hdr support.

Somehow, I prefer the TR2-TR5 games (Core Desigh), because of it's puzzles and gameplay. Then it becomes very liniair. The last 3x TR games (Crystal Dynamics) are graphically absolutely superb, but it became more of a shooting game other than a (classic) exploration/puzzle game. Will play Creaks next. And for the new Tomb Raider trilogy, they were forced to put way more puzzles in after the first game (and they were far better) due to the backlash, even if many are optional. I think part of the reason the original Tomb Raider games require more thought is because of the tank controls which aren't really a thing anymore, making even basic platforming a puzzle. Prince Of Persia managed to be a good at that while having slick controls, I suppose.

Tomb Raider 1-3 - I played these games quite a while after they had come out and everyone else had already played them. When I played the first game, I struggled a bit with the controls, but quickly got used to them. The camera frustrated me until I realized that you need to imagine that it's connected to the back of Lara's head with a flexible pole. If there's room behind her, it will be looking straight ahead, but if there isn't room enough for it, the imaginary pole will bend to the side. Once I realized that, the camera movement became largely predictable. I went back and replayed the first game a couple years ago using the Glide version in DOSBox and it actually played much better than I remembered. Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation - I liked the game overall, but what I didn't like was the introduction of certain areas having fixed camera angles where you couldn't even use the look button. Is this Tomb Raider or Resident Evil? It's a 3D game, I should be able to look around in 3D! Some say that this game has the hardest puzzles, but I honestly can't remember having to look up the solution to any of them. That's something I can't say for the rest of the series. Tomb Raider Chronicles - I didn't mind the episodic nature, or the stories of the episodes. I hated that there were even more fixed camera angles, including the escape from the office shown in the video at 7:20. That part had me screaming profanities at the screen because of the number of times I got hung up on objects while trying to do it. My hatred of fixed camera angles is the main reason I have never played the Resident Evil or Dino Crisis games, despite loving the premise of both franchises. Chronicles also introduced the idea of melee combat in one specific scene, something the franchise had never had before, and which I had no idea was even a thing until I resorted to reading a walkthru to figure out how to get past that one spot. Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness - I didn't mind the story or the locations. What killed this game for me were the tons of bugs and unfinished textures. And having to play as a different character that I didn't care about. And the fact that they royally f***ed up the combat. Lara now auto-targets enemies, and turns to face them any time her guns are drawn. Meaning it's now impossible to properly maneuver Lara with her guns draw if there are any enemies present. Want to jump out from behind cover, fire a few shots and then jump back? Yeah, not going to happen. Once you target an enemy, Lara's direction changes and jumping back will no longer work because she's now facing in a different direction. ARGH!!! I want to punch the asshole who thought this was a good idea! Not to mention that during one boss battle, you need to manually switch targets, even though I don't recall that fact being mentioned in the manual. Oh, and all the f***ing fixed camera angles that make it impossible to fully appreciate entire scenes. Tomb Raider: Anniversary - I know I'm the odd one out here, but I don't like this game, or the others by Crystal Dynamics. Instead of the camera following Lara from behind, you now have to control it manually, and it NEVER stays where you put it! Place the camera so that you can see to properly line up a jump and the moment you start to run, the f***ing camera moves!!! And where do you want the camera when lining up jumps? Behind Lara so you can see where you're going. So why can't I f***king lock the camera there instead of having the f***ing thing float all over the damn place??? Plus, the camera is just as utterly useless in tight spaces as the camera in the original game. Then there's the level design which somehow seems to make the path you're supposed to take more obvious and more confusing at the same time. Everywhere that you're expected to grab onto is now glaringly obvious, but exactly how you're supposed to jump, bounce, spin, and climb those ledges is about as clear as mud. Just climb here, backflip onto this other ledge, drop down one level, backflip onto the pole, swing around it, flip onto the ledge, shimmy to the side, backflip onto another pole, jump to the ledge and then drop onto the path. Oh yeah, perfectly clear! And how do you strafe and shoot at enemies while retreating if Lara no longer always faces away from the camera? Easy, you just have to manually lock onto enemies, manually switch targets, manually release the target lock. Yup, it sure is easier to have several different buttons to manually manage the target lock, rather than having her do it automatically like in the classic games. And oh yes, the fact that the designers clearly though that gamers are idiots who are too stupid to remember the controls to a game, since it prompts you for every f***ing button press, like all games today. Jeez, are gamers today really too stupid to remember the controls to a game? How do they function in the real world? Is everything in their home labeled with how to use it? Do all their light switches say "Push up to turn on light"? I've never played any of the later games. In my opinion, the gameplay in later games is inversely proportional to how good the graphics look. In another decade, we'll have games that look completely photo-realistic, but the gameplay will consist of watching a 10-minute cutscene, pressing the button indicated by a giant prompt that takes up 3/4 of the screen, and then watching another 10-minute cutscene. :(

“Underworld” was my introduction to the franchise, so it naturally holds a special place in my heart. As soon as I finished it, I started it all over again and have played it twice more since. I don’t have enough experience across the franchise to assess your ranking, but it seems to echo my own thoughts about the games I have played. I’d just put TR (2013) at the very top! (“Rise” suffers, for me, due to its cold-weather setting, which I don’t enjoy in any game-or IRL!-and the helicopter encounter near the end which, as a casual gamer, was numbingly difficult for me to get past. But those are personal quirks. I recognize that it’s probably a superior game to the 2013 reboot. It’s just not something I want to replay.)

TR Chronicles (5) shouldn't be that low: it's realtively short, and the fact that the 4 stories are not being directly related does worsen that perception. But seeing Pierre and Larson again in a beautiful Rome, experiencing a submarine mission, accompany Lara in one of her first horror adventure in a Poe-ish atmosphere and finally, taking a pseudo-revenge on Von Croy... This game is a (literally)little gem and shouldn't be that undervalued. Ps: TR 2 is the best

I agree. Yes, the developers were admittedly doing it for the pay check. Yes, it was so short it would be classed as DLC by today's standards. Yes, it isn't the best Tomb Raider game...but the levels have such personality to them and there were some really cool puzzles. The Rome level was stunning and the Ireland level was so creepy and atmospheric! I still prefer it to the truly unforgivable/painful difficulty and lacklustre story that was Tomb Raider 3. That Pierre line - "Come let us get off this roof, and I will buy you a milkshake." 😂 Tomb Raider Legend is my favourite. The action, the levels, the story, her moveset, the humour... everything. It's just amazing. 🤩

Tomb Raider fanboy checking in. There's only a couple on this list I don't own. Due to never owning a smartphone. Good list. Not my choice of #1 but I'll let it slide due to the list in general being very good. (your #2 is my #1 like a few other commenters.) Angel of Darkness deserves a special place in hell for being the game that killed a persons love of video gaming forever. A few years ago my daughter's boyfriend told me that his mum played and loved video games in her youth. Until the day she bought AOD for her PS2. (being a TR/Lara fan) Started up the game, played it for 30 minutes in shock and horror at how bad it was. Shut the console down, and NEVER played a video game again. lol

Props for not putting Angel of Darkness in the last place. It's absolutely playable with the latest fan patches and after playing it a few years ago, I wished it would've been released in a better state and we'd gotten the full trilogy. One of the most interesting games in the series. Eidos should have never given TR to Crystal Dynamics (although Legend was pretty good)

Definitely agree with Rise of the Tomb Raider being at the top. Although, in tge original trailer you see Lara in a psychiatrist office facing the trauma of the previous title. I would have liked the story to explore that more how her trauma transformed into obsession and drive. Also explore what happened after returning to civilisation and the relationships with other survivors other than Jona as there were so many un answered questions. ❤

Hm... Tomb Raider Underwold and Shadow of the Tomb Raider are my favorite games of the Tomb Raider series. What particularly impressed me about Shadow was the quality of the tombs outside of the main story and the fact that this continues until the end of the game. On the other hand, I cannot understand the praise for Rise of the Tomb Raider. The game falls into constant busywork in the midgame and offers the most generic game time stretch in my book. My personal ranking: 1. Shadow of the Tomb Raider 2. Tomb Raider Underworld 3. Tomb Raider Legend 4. Tomb Raider 2013 5. Tomb Raider Anniversary 6. Rise of the Tomb Raider 7. Tomb Raider 1996 8. Tomb Raider II (actually I never really liked TR2)

(Angel of Darkness) There's a bit of a story behind this one. This was a fascinating project, and the first game where you'd get the opportunity to play a secondary character, Kurtis Trent, as Lara was plunged into a darker setting after being framed for murder of her former mentor. The background in gothic France and the villain are great for the time of the release.. BUT the game was rushed and at parts seemed unfinished. There are some bad bugs (even your weapon loadout vanishes in the plot), and Trent himself is underpowered in the segments when he is playable. The controls are stiff, and a lot of interactions which were cut down for clunky exposition dialogue. There should be no way that the mafia boss that you encounter should have all the insight on the villain's plan when you interrogate him. The reason for this? Cradle of Life (the second Tomb Raider movie) was coming out the same year, in 2003. So the game developers were rushed to meet a shoddy deadline, and we all suffered for it. What we could've gotten was probably one of the best entries in the series, but it was, like its villain in the game, left presumed dead and buried. (Underworld) Not a fan of this one. While it's nice that they tried a continuation from Legend, and tying the villain from the first game (Natla) back in as a sort of evil mastermind, I feel like there was some bad writing which could've been fixed with a couple more drafts. Plot convenience that Avalon and Helheim are the same place, and the unrewarding payoff of Lara's mother, et cetera. Even after my first playthrough, shortly after the game's release, I was disappointed that this, as a final entry, was sooo underwhelming. The darker ending where Lara shoots Amanda and leaves her for dead would've been nice if they kept it in. Legend and Anniversary clearly better written. (Legend) Was good. But wasn't that difficult until the final battle with Amanda in the game.

When she runs it moves up and down and makes her jaw open and close with each step. Also, her eyes have turned black for some reason. I don't know what to do, please help :(

For me, TR1 is a timeless masterpiece that's worth playing even today. TR2 is quite fun, but was a lot more action-oriented with too many enemies that made the pace, atmosphere and gameplay suffer because of it, and I think most people consider it their fav in the series mainly because of nostalgia. I'm still playing TR3 and I have a love/hate relationship with it.

True that the OG trilogy made a big impact. So youre right. It was a great game series with outstanding (for that time) visuals and mechanics... But the OG just doesn't compare to the reboot at all. Lara is just a human in the reboot and she grows in to this role...ptsd and all. I mean this girl definitely needs to talk to a specialist after what she's been through. I played all three of the reboots in a series a few months ago and Rise of the TR is the only one I would replay.

No hate for Shadow here, it came out the same week as I broke my leg, so probably one of my quicker completions in games from the last 5ish years. I enjoyed all of the rebooted trilogy, but what would have kept Rise from the top for me was the introduction of cards. To this day I still don't understand them, and they didn't really have any place in an adventure game. They just felt like a mechanic shoved in for the sake of it - maybe they were a DLC money spinner for SE, but I never touched them and the game didn't need them. On the one hand, I'm surprised this wasn't mentioned in the recap, but on the other, they seemed so unnecessary and redundant that they're easily forgotten.
