Thanks Derek, great videos. A couple of points, which you may’ve mentioned & I missed. On checking for operating pressures at a boiler, the other appliances attached to the same carcass/pipework should be On, cooker with 3 rings burning etc. You still are only permitted up to 1Mbar difference between the Meter & appliance. Also, and this is only a daft wee point; in the Trade, the test points on a Gas Valves are referred to as P1(inlet pressure) & P2(Burner pressure). I hope you find this constructive👍

Gas safe position on this, as we have had many of these is.... eg a boiler, if the "appliance" WP gas pressure is below MI, then it is at risk. However if the boiler meets all combustion specifications, ie gas rate, Ratio, C02 etc, then it can be left on, if the customer wishes ( ie does not agree to turn off), as it is not ID. With regard to the 1.0 mb drop,, long as WP at appliance meets MI, it is acceptable. However, if you install a new gas feed then the 1.0mb rule applies, as you are the designer and it must meet regulation standard.

Why did you adjust the valve on the BOP? You should test it at max then but it back to the 8,8. This is for the Pottertan King Fisher Floor Standing
@tomkatgastraining3 жыл бұрын
I didn’t adjust anything on the open flued boiler. I don’t understand why you are saying I should test it at max and then reduce it back you don’t do that on a range rated boiler you test to see what it was set at when commissioned. This was set at low so you check burner pressure gas rate and inlet pressure to see if they all are correct

Thanks for vids. Was just wondering tho if you could add scenarios where the operating pressures would not be acceptable. So say at the appliance it was 18mb operating (ok as per MIs) and 18.5mb pressure and at the meter would this be undersized pipework? And what if the cooker and fire was operating must the operating pressure at the meter all way be between 19 and 22 mb? And if not would all the pipework at the property have to be increased if below 19mb at the meter?

I bought a test adaptor to test the injector burners on my Gas cooker. i tested all four injectors. The standing pressures were fine 24.5 mb at the meter and around 24.2 mb at the injector test adaptors The operating pressure When i lit the two medium size burners together. i was getting a pressure of around 22mb at the Gas meter, and 22mb at the large and small burners. which was okay. The problem was when i lit the Large and the small burners together to test the two medium burners. The pressure started at 24mb and kept rising till it got to 31.2 mb at that point i had to stop the test. This happened with both the medium sized burners. Any suggestions as to why this would happen.

Hi Derek. The old style floor standing boiler. It looked like the boiler burner pressure was at the lowest.. ... wouldn't it be better to adjust the burner pressure to be mid range ?? Well done on the videos. Done as a "this is the way it is " down to earth . Hope to hear from you. Rgds Don.

The different settings low mid high are so the boiler can be ranged rated for the kw required for the property so it depends on the kw you need wether or not you set it to mid

what about where you get an old 22mm run under a drive then increase it to 28mm to get volume you get gas valve bounce right till it stabalizes?(bosch guy complained i hope they went back to drawing board)(the old way of doing stuff) yours is a short run as you know that's not how it works in real life. again ty for upload. have you ever had a gas soldered join leak after you tested it? with a customer present. next day customer reports smell of gas outside. test that passed the previous day failed so massivley that i thought its a mechanical join losened. new 28mm brass union off the meter and just below on the 2nd elbow there was a leak within the meter box. im meticulous in watching how solder runs into my joints. could my 28mm gas joint have leaked the next day without tampering. should i be testing with air. at a high pressure? clean reamered for gas flow 28mm gas that i had propane on because the wind was taking heat from the joint there is a history behind this house where somone wanted to buy it as is. the current ownenrs decidided to upgreade. how do i protect myself? i video my gas tests what i'm trying to say is do i get my gas safe inspector involved ?

Hi Tom just a quick question do we have to turn pilot off prior to opening the p2 for bp test even though there is no gas coming out if boiler is not turned on? Just thinking yes should be off incase the gas valve is faulty.

Excellent training as always Derek. Is there a regulation that states if gas meter outlet is disconnected any open ends as far as practicable should also be called. Be it say temporary redundant I e. Removing gas fire
@tomkatgastraining2 жыл бұрын
The regs say no open ends on a live gas supply if you disconnect the anaconda and cap off the ECV then the gas is isolated so turning on the gas at the ECV won’t live the gas supply. Some people might say what if someone reconnected the supply then my answer would be when reconnecting you must test the gas. Hope that answers your question
@alexanderwhalen72443 жыл бұрын
Hi there love what your doing helps me loads, Can I please ask u a question so u can decide an argument? I’m a gas student doing my portfolio , and my mentor tells me that you don’t need to do operating pressure at the appliance because if there’s a problem with pipe sizing that gas rating would show this, or the FGA would show this . We’ve been doing lgsc’s and he doesn’t even take the cover off the boilers he checks, fault code lockout , he gas rates appliance , and does flue gas analysis. He had a go at me for saying we should be checking OP at appliance using the inlet on gas valve as I was taught. He says that you lose too much pressure over the pipe work inside boiler and that some boilers say inlet pressure as low as 15mbar is fine in MI’s. He says you can’t take OP at boiler unless it has test nipple at iso valve for gas. Which I say is wrong and you test OP at the inlet on gas valve to check correct pipe sizing and drop is no less than 1 mb. Is he right?
@tomkatgastraining3 жыл бұрын
Some manufacturers give you a test point at the inlet valve which you can’t have more than 1mbr drop others tell you the lowest pressure at the gas valve. If the safe operation of another appliance is affected by another appliance then it’s ID but if it doesn’t it’s ncs

When taking an op pressure at appliance such as boiler do the other gas appliances need to be on ie 3 largest hobs and a fire
@tomkatgastraining3 жыл бұрын
No because if the gas pipe is sized correctly it shouldn’t make a difference but if the gas pipe is undersized then you need to see if the appliance is affecting the safe operation of the other appliances but turning them on at the same time.
@TheDickPuller3 жыл бұрын
@@tomkatgastraining sorry to disagree Derek, but you can only establish or check if the pipework is undersized by having all appliances On. Or indeed if the carcass pipework is blocked somewhere. On any Gas Safe inspection or Housing Association audit they always insist on this procedure for carcass pressure drop test.
@tomkatgastraining3 жыл бұрын
@@TheDickPuller no you are wrong if you were correct why do we not use the full kw of the appliances when we size a gas meter also when we pipe size now we only get the less than one Mbr drop to each appliance. I agree it’s good practice but not what regs say
@TheDickPuller3 жыл бұрын
@@tomkatgastraining thanks Derek, as I said, it’s the procedure recently wanted by a Gas Safe Inspector & on Gas Audits. I will double check with our local GS Inspector, regarding procedure & Regs. Thanks for taking the time to do the videos👍

Hi Derek Good video, just a quick question is it correct practice working pressure at the meter if you have let’s say 2 appliances at full rate like 1 boiler and 3 rings on a hob, in the same time have a digital manometer at inlet pressure at the boiler So idea is if working pressure to carry on with 2 appliances at the same time, or is not a requirement Thanks

@tomkatgastraining3 жыл бұрын
You are correct it is and as you say it’s the op that shows incorrect pipe sizing not gas rate because like you say you can only have that appliance on to gas rate. My advice would be bite your lip and get the portfolio done ASAP and get the hell out of there 👍🏻
