I'm more of a longboarder than a snowboarder, but I found that staying as calm as possible is extremely important to not falling. Many people go really stiff when they get scared and lose control of their boards before they even get to a trouble spot. Staying calm and trusting yourself to get through it is important. Not doing anything way over your comfort level is also good to remember. The pros can hit the bigger stuff because they've worked up to it and their experience allows them to be confident and not scared. Start with stuff you're confident in and slowly work up from there. You'll build muscle memory and confidence over time and eventually you'll hit difficult stuff like it's nothing because you'll know how to stay in control the entire run.

Excellently stated my man. I have only spent about 12 hours snowboarding over 3 days and I know once I begin tensing up and not relaxing, I am going to wreck. When you're in that groove, relaxed and flowing, the wrecks come far less often and hurt less when they happen. Definitely gotta progress at a pace that makes sense for what skills you've practiced and repeated.

Thanks for the videos. I've been snowboarding for 32 years now and always have people that want me to teach them to snowboard. I tell them to start off by watching videos like yours to better understand what to expect once they get to the snow and second, take lessons at a resort given by a pro instructor. Best!!

I was kinda expecting this to just be a way to kind of brush up on my skills, see if there was anything missing from my repertoire...but I was NOT expecting to see that thorough of an intro. This runs the gamut all the way from beginner to kinda advanced riding, and I was not expecting that. I've been riding for 10 years, and I actually expect to learn something new with this video.

My biggest issue as a beginner is I’m most afraid of staying on the toe slide or heel slide for any amount of time so I switch to the opposite side turn and then end up gaining so much speed I’m out of control and end up wiping out big time. Having a great time and improving though. Thanks for the videos! Much appreciated.
@G2thesecondpower
@G2thesecondpower 7 ай бұрын
My first advice is to take lessons. They really help. On your own, concentrate on making "C" turns. This means that as you're going across the fall line, in order to control your speed you should be going almost uphill before you take your next turn. If you feel like you're going too fast, just make that uphill turn just a little bit tighter and you'll slow right down. I'm sure Tommy has some videos about this but another KZfaqr I recommend for drills is Malcolm Moore.

I like that use use analogies, works really well for me. To add to your braking at around the 9min mark, someone told me this: Try to imagine you are a cowboy sitting on a horse (getting ready to draw if you want to complete the picture and balance, but): bend through your knees while pointing them outward. Bending deeper brakes more. And lift your toes..
