Like your quick rehouse...----....zoop! Lol! Cute little spood. Didn't know about that one. I like those dwarfs. About 13 sec. into your intro I always have to crack up at that gray and black spider on the lower right of the screen snatching up that cricket. It's like she has magnets on the end of her feet. Lol!

Well well well Tom I finally know why I've misspelled Pseudhapalopus as PseudOhapalopus for years... 00:48 This is absolutely one of the top species on my wishlist at the moment. I have a sp. Columbia which is FINALLY showing some adult colours and good lord that thing is stunning. Super excited to keep growing it up. I recently rehoused mine from a dram vial into a little amac box and the amount of burrowing it IMMEDIATELY did was shocking to me. This thing outdid some of my old world fossorials with its burrowing! I would love to see it continue this behaviour into adulthood because fossorial new worlds are like my guilty pleasure since there are so few, at least that we consider "fossorial"-although I believe many more will adapt that lifestyle readily if provided the correct setup... for instance my A. geniculata and S. Santa Catalina (both of which are female btw, woohoo!) are fully fossorial and behave exactly the same as my Ephebopus species. My Queen (T. verdezi) is in premoult and she has also gone fully fossorial. She dug out the entire bottom of her enclosure and webbed over and covered the entrance completely. It's bizarre not seeing her out because I'm so used to her always sitting out there being your quintessential pet rock. She's already around 5 inches so I can't wait to see what she looks like when she comes back up. Of course, she's named in honour of The Queen. I recently relistened to your podcast about species that failed to excite you at first and I am truly struck by how similar our lists were because that is the exact list I had and almost the exact reasons I had with a few differences. You did mention that as some of your Poecilotheria and Psalmopoeus pass from old age you were planning to look into more Avicularia (which is great!) but I will also use this opportunity to champion Phormingochilus species as they are just undeniably the best genus. Lampropelma and Omothymus are also awesome. I know I've pushed these on you before and you said you just had bad luck with males which trust me I understand... sitting on 2 male P. arboricola and a Hati Hati and just sent off an O. vio.... but man they are so awesome to raise up and the females are so unbelievably pretty. Unsure if you have a sp. Rufus at the moment but if you don't, they're fairly cheap these days and the colour changes they go through are awesome! Keep up the awesome work and thanks for all you do for the hobby! - Charlotte

Hey, Charlotte! I do that ALL of the time. haha I just feel that it REALLY needs an O in there; don't you agree? haha I currently have one in the Barbarous Growth enclosure that is burrowed all of the time. I'm going to be rehousing my other one soon. After years in the hobby, I've been finding that more and more species will continue to burrow through adulthood if given the substrate depth to do so. As a result, I've been using deeper enclosures for most of my new rehousings. I always hesitate to do those types of podcast because some folks get SO offended. haha I will definitely get around to keeping more Phormingochilus and Omothymus species in the future. I did enjoy the ones that I kept; I just got sick of getting males. I never end up making husbandry videos when I get males, so there are so many species that I kept that I never shared. haha Thanks so much; I hope that all is well! Tom

This is such a cool species that I'm surprised this is the first I heard they were dwarf! Definitely going on my wish list, wondering the life span tho. I know dwarf sp tend to not live as long. For some people, that's a bonus, tho!

I have two and dont like them. They are very restless in containers which i use for smaller species like them. Little manipulation in terrarium = escape. So i must keep them in containers for bigger species (and they arent even adult xD)

Well, considering that these took about 5 years to reach adult size, I would guess that the females can live over 10 years.

Hope You, Billie, and kids had a great Christmas. I froze down here. Pray it wasn't too cold where you are all at. Beautiful tarantula, Tom. I also looked at those same enclosures. They are fairly priced. I'm trying to get a few more t's later around April. I've always planned ahead so I am ready to put the slings or juveniles I buy into their enclosures. I've currently have two T's that look like they are getting ready to molt. My A. chalcodes I noticed is digging under her water dish. It maybe she wants the moisture near it as I overflow the dish somewhat. I need to rehouse my B. emilia, she tends to bolt though. Not defensive, just flighty. Oh my granddaughters are finally getting why find spiders fascinating. One of them bought me a metal picture of an old world species. It's really nice. The other got me some leaf litter and moss. Well, I pray you'all have a great Happy New Year in 2023!

Mine burrowed right into the starter burrow and has now made a little tunnel on the side of the dram vial so I can see them at all times😅. I’m sure they think they’re hiding very well. I can hardly wait for summer when their growth with speed up. Thank you for sharing your gorgeous Psudhapalopus sp blue with us! I have to say Tom those enclosures are really nice, I just ordered 4 of the 8x8x8 and 2 of the 12x8x10's and can't wait to get them, they seem like they are going to be so much better then the critter keepers that I am using not for some of my T's. I don't seem to do well with really small slings got 10 if the C. Versicolors that were about 1/2 inch and they all died on my but the ones that are 1" or larger I have no problem with other then they love to stay in their web nests LOL but anywho I loved the video and you guys are amazing and again thanks for the enclosure tips :)

@@TomsBigSpiders To be honest it could end up being anything as I'll be at a friend's house for Hogmanay, but should def be a single malt whisky in there somewhere... I used to favour the smoky peaty Islay malts like Lagavulin, but have sort of moved on to the more mellow Speysides like Tamnavulin and north highland ones like Old Pulteny. It's in steady supply here, so very much spoiled for choice 🤣 Anyhow, have a good one Clan-SpidMoran 🎼🎵🎵 😉👍

Columbia (Purple and Gold or something) coming in a few days and I'm super excited; it'll be my first Pseudohapalopus but I'm popping on here cause I'm going to assume the care is probably pretty similar since they come from a similar area and are the same genus. Glad to hear you say yours grow faster than Aphonopelma, I was definitely worried about it but I think I'm doing pretty well with the tiny sling thing, and they are just so gorgeous. Your girl is sooo pretty I may have to add that to my wishlist as well! Thanks for all you do for the hobby! Ah! I did a search on your vids and can we get a update on the Megaphobema robustum? It has been 11 months. I lost mine due to a faulty critter keeper locking mechanism *shakes fist in the air*. I plan on getting another next year. She would always let me know when she was hungry by either legs sticking out of her hide or roaming around. Grabbing 3 this next time around to hopefully get 1 to 3 females. Love this species BUT! would never handle it. Have you seen the barbs on those back legs??? Dude those things look scary up close! Screw the hairs! Those legs scare me worse than the fangs! Thanks for all that you do good sir! May warmer weather find you this winter. Shout out to Billie! How does she kill it every video??? Oh and that rehouse made me laugh! Grabs the water dish with the T, poof! done. LOL Kind of like my Grammostola pulchripes rehouse, grabbed the plant it was on, moved to new enclosure, 2 hours later it realized it was rehoused LOL

@@TomsBigSpiders Happy New Years Tom! There are like 1% of the tarantulas that I would worry about if "They wondered onto my hand" this is one of them. I have handled many wild spiders in the past. They normally call the "spider guy" to help them get rid of a spider in the office. I have trained them well. Page me over the intercom if there is a spider and I will come deal with it... sort of thing lol. 99% of the time is is a orb weaver, daddy long legs, P regalis, or wolf spider. Catch cup, piece of paper, released outdoors, done. We did have some 5 to 6 foot rat snakes in the past! That was fun to take to the front office LOL. All were eventually released into the wild. No deaths. I caught them all and released them into various areas. I took one up to my parents house, I took one to the north of our city, 1 to the south of our city, and 1 to the creek that was nearby. This species was native for all 4 locations so I was fine with that. All 4 were at or above 5 foot in length. The biggest 6 foot+ female I dropped off at my parents house has done a real number on the mouse population. I am guessing she had babies They haven't had mice in the house for 2 years. They did have a 3 foot snake in the basement, which I took care of and released back into the wild. I have finally taught my mother and father what the good spiders are and they FINALLY respect them! They have 3 species of Hogna in their yard. After showing them the 24 different species that are in their yard they don't spray for bugs anymore. Wish there were tarantulas species..... new pets... just saying lol. Rabidosa rabida is the most common but there are some variants in size that don't add up. I have seen some that are almost 6 inches in the last 20 years. Now that I have an awesome cell phone I will be capturing the pics in the future! Have you seen a 6 inch wolf spider? I have! Have you seen an 11 inch dragon fly that was green? I have! Screen shots or it didn't happen applies here lol. I will get my screen shots and pics as well. Imagine a 12 inch wing span Dragon Fly that is forest green! I have seen this! One day I will catch it! One day I will report it to the fish and wildlife board! 22 years ago I saw a BIG dragonfly. I didn't have the tech I do now. I saw a spider as big as my foot 26 years ago. Somebody killed it before I could capture it. All of this was in Kansas btw. The large 6 inch wolf spider (you can't mistake the striping) was in Andover, and the large 8+ inch spider (oddly still looked like a faded wolf spider) was at El Dorado (El do raid O is how we say it lol) Lake in 2008. I will produce pictures of these mutants in the future, I have armed my parents and family with the knowledge to do this. Grab something common (aka a quarter/dollar/yard stick) and take a picture. You think you know nature? I have seen things that can't be explained! I have a camera now at all times. I plan on shocking the world with what I have seen. No photo shop needed. It will be raw photos and specimens delivered to the Fish and Wildlife foundation. Everything will be recorded in time. I just need time to amaze the world of what they don't know. H Maxima, T blondi, bat catching centipedes, tarantulas that fish underwater. One by one I will eventually show the world what I have found. Some things are on the brink of extinction I.E. the 12-14 inch green dragon fly. East to South East Kansas is where I have seen it the most. Prove me wrong, find a 5 inch green dragonfly, prove me right, find a 10+ inch green dragonfly. I have seen 3 in my lifetime. It has been 25 years since I have seen one. I am 43 right now. I am sure they are out there. Both a big bodied "Wolf Spider" and a huge 12+ inch "Green Dragonfly" are in the south east portions of Kansas. Catch, measure, report, and release, is all I ask of you. I will do the same.

Mine is currently in it's covered burrow. I'm expecting it to molt anytime. I got it 4 months ago, as like a half inch sling, so it's time for it to molt.

Just a note on Pseudhapolopus sp. “Colombia” - little turd sealed off his burrow immediately after its initial housing and didn’t come out for over 5 months! I finally opened the burrow slightly and watched as it took 2 pre-killed crickets back inside. 1 day later and the burrow is sealed off again!! Now I don’t know WTF to think anymore! 🤣🤣🤣

Hey, Jason! haha That's insane! Talk about scary. I've had a few do that over the years, and it's something a lot of folks aren't aware of. When in doubt, carefully open the burrow and leave a prekilled prey item at the mouth over night. If it's gone in the morning, it's still eating.

Hey Tom I have a question hope you can help :) I have a nursery that is close but they put like these white fertilizer or Styrofoam things in the soil for their potted plants. Is that dangerous for the T's or not ? I want to start making enclosures that have plants in them. Hope you can answer this for me :)

Hi Tom, I was wondering if you could tell of some good tarantula breeders that deliver to Lynnwood Washington. I know I am off topic, but I just have a hard time finding them. I have found Fear not tarantulas, Jamies, and Swifts. Thanx in advance.
