In today's video we are helping my back! We have decided to go for a brand new JFC milk kart... I knew we were going to have the issue of milk we were feeding calves before we even started with the new temporary system... But calves were not doing 100% and we needed to make a jump.
Hope you enjoy!
Big thanks to JFC for the 10 feed bars as well!
The JFC Agri Milk Kart is capable of transporting up to 170 litres of whole milk or liquid milk replacer around the farm, so you can easily feed a large number of calves without breaking a sweat. The Milk Kart features a high output pump that dispenses up to 36 litres per minute, you can also mix a 20kg bag of milk replacer in just 4 minutes! #MilkKart #FarmLife #TPFarmLife #FeedingCalvesMadeEasy

Try and get your parlour fitters to put the wash line drain in your new parlour at a height so you can park your trolley under it and it fills up with just the hot wash from your parlour. It’s what we do and That way it will stay perfectly clean and it stores the used hot water inbetween milkings if you want to use it for anything else.

Hi Tom, we have the same JFC calf feeder /milk cart, a good job and saves carrying buckets and lifting buckets of milk which is worth anything, you should be able to engineer a take off point on your new parlour to get hot milk before it enters the bulk tank and save having to heat milk. This will save time and money.

I would bet my poor grandma would have loved to have had one of those, since she was the one who had to feed the calves! She was still feeding the calves into her 70s! I miss her a lot! Of course, when I was around, all summer long & every weekend, I helped her as much as possible from the time I was little!

Tom I think your next investment needs to be a purpose built calf rearing shed. we used to have a similar shed but its too labour intensive and just pure hardship. Calves look in great form though fair play.

Good idea but where about would he put the shed?
@russ3400
@russ3400 Жыл бұрын
@@WS_Farming Preferably close to the dairy/milking parlour so they dont have to far to go with milk, personally I would demolish that shed the calves are in and there is a shed beside it he used to have cattle in, that is beside the parlour, make it bigger and extend it over where the calves are now. Great for farm tours aswell then.

Sucking on a teat produces saliva, which aids in digestion. The teat buckets should be lower (think a cow's udder height). This makes the calf bend the neck in a way which opens the esophageal groove, directing the milk into the correct stomach. :) Hope this helps. Love the fact you're able to keep the milk warmer for the calves!

Almost agree, but it closes (in stead of open) the esophageal groove. This system makes the temperature of the milk less important than for those calves with bucket feeding. The bucket feeded calves need a minimum temperature of the milk for a correct function of the esophageal groove.

In dead of winter you could probably strap a blanket or insulation mat around the tank to help with heat retention and heating speed. That unit seems like it'd also be easily mounted to a quad cycle.

Don't forget to turn your thermostat back down. If you tilt your feeder at the end of the tank towards the intake of the pump you may be able to feed out the last 5 liters. Good place for a random block to be placed. 😊

Great video Tom! I was taught that it is the extension of the calf’s neck and sucking that is the best for calves but I didn’t know the terminology so I asked The Googles. Here you go, enjoy. 😊 The Esophageal Groove A calf is born with an esophageal groove, which consists of muscular folds from the reticulorumen that come together to bypass the rumen, reticulum and omasum through to the abomasum when the calf drinks milk. The suckling reflex and milk protein stimulate the groove to open.

Fab a bracket up to go on. We generally take the calf milk from calvers put it in a churn then take it out to the calf's. But when in full swing, we have a milk mixer, in the heifer unit. And it's quick. You have to find a way to make it easy for yourself. Well done.

Teat feeders are way better for calves, besides the extra saliva produced to aid digestion, it's more importantly the oesophageal grove that forms properly to take all the milk to the abomasum, so no milk gets into any of the other 3 stomachs. And correct temperature, wether lower or higher is so important. People do feed cold colostrum with out problems.
