Tom, thanks for the video. You were instrumental in me buying a La Spaziale Lucca A53 which is a Clive Coffee ( a store in Portland Oregon) branded version of the Vivaldi II Mini. Our previous machine was a Gaggia Classic and I took to this machine like a duck to water. I haven't pulled an undrinkable shot yet. I'm not sure what the shot count is but we've got through around three pounds of beans in the past week. I paired it with a Ceado E37S and it's dangerously easy to pull a shot. For my son and my wife they can use the timed dose of the Ceado (4.3 seconds for 20g) and the double shot I set up for a 40g pull. Coupled with the hot water output they can have an Americano in their hands within a minute. I bought the pre-infuser and installed it myself. It's a trivially easy to do and that with the deeper portafilter means that I have yet to see channeling. Once again thanks for taking the time to make the video. It's greatly appreciated.

Awesome, Paul - I am real happy to hear that the video could be of some help. The La Spazz seems to be quite a niche machine. This gets the fewest views of my videos, but it is the cheapest quality dual boiler money can buy. At least it was when I was looking. Glad you're happy, and I wish you happy coffee drinking! Tom

I have the same machine in black. Mine runs on 20amps. I leave the machine on all day for 12-15 hours easily. You can actually use it commercially if you wanted to. It’s awesome! The size of the machine is pretty big but espresso machines look best when they are big. Makes a great conversational piece that’s for sure. I only wished the portafilter was the standard 58mm. Other than that. It’s awesome.

Very helpful video. I’ve narrowed my machine choices down to the Mini Vivaldi II and the Lelit Elizabeth and I’m leaning towards the Mini Vivaldi. It seems the consensus is the 53 mm portafilter provides more consistent results with less puck prep fussing compared to 58 mm. I also like that the reservoir is in front so I don’t have to slide the machine out from under the cabinets to fill it. I think I will have the dealer install the optional preinfusion chamber as well.

Hi Scott, don't know what you chose but I've just bought the La Spaziale Lucca A53 Mini (same as the Vivaldi II Mini). I compared them side by side in the showroom and the Spaz leaves the Elizabeth in the dust as far as build quality is concerned and pretty much every other parameter except electronics. For an anonymous voice unbidden, I highly recommend the Spaz over the Elizabeth.

on the mini vivaldi that upgrade its a fixed pre-infusion unit. On the Dream I believe it is built in as standard and is programmable. There are a few other bits you might like to take note of on the newer Dream too - better temp stability, newer tech/pid/timer etc improvements. Grotty display though. Overdue for a screen update imho. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/p5uGepOK2eCyYmQ.html (Whatever your choice, any of the La Spaziales will be a better bet than the Lelit Elizabeth imho.)

Great review, many thanks. Own one connected to water behind a BWT filter, works really good. By the way, this version comes with pre-infusion 😊 and a Bluetooth timer as well. Came from one of these chrome monsters with E61 portafilter and I was sick and tired to burn xKW/h a day for pre-heating. @@TomsCoffeeCorner well, it was manufactured in May times 2022 and yes, there is a BT modul granting acces to a timer, which I don't use. I'm using FHEM for home automation and built my own soft/hardware to control the Mini Vivaldi. For those who have a fix water connection and want to use pre-infusion, please don't forget, pre-infusion is using presure of your water system only, not using Rota pump pressure. If it's leaking around the group, you may want to change the gasket if you haven't already, typically once a year that should be done. This helped me out in making the decision to step up to a dual boiler machine, currently I have a heat exchanger but i want the ability to change the temperature with different coffees

I’ve had this machine for 10 years and I don’t regret it; a good value. This is my first semi pro machine and so it’s difficult to compare to others. I wish it was easier to take apart for maintenance. The case and chassis use screw fasteners in every corner and it’s a chore. The chassis is difficult to keep square over time and loses some fitment in tray and supply tank, etc. ‘Stick’ built chassis corrodes more easily. I’m not sure what the solution might be. Welded joints?
@TomsCoffeeCorner
@TomsCoffeeCorner 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Perry, thanks for your thoughts on this machine. Luckily, I haven't had to take this machine apart myself to make any repairs, and the chassis seems to have remained square for me. But you're right, I'd say it's not the most pleasant machine to disassemble (I have partially taken it apart to install the auto-on mod). My bigger beef with this machine is that it can leak between the group head gasket and portafilter, which is annoying. The gasket itself seems to be fine. It's been a tank otherwise for me. What other kind of machine are you considering in the future? Cheers, Tom

Looks great styling, really cool Italian looks - esp in red. I love the front loading water tank. for a domestic machine. Not a fan of smalerl PF baskets. And if you want any accessories or upgaded baskets a 58mm basket gives much more choice. The E61 group also runs warm without pre-warming delay, and a rotary pump is essential in a domestic setting. But hey, dual boiler and very affordable.
@TomsCoffeeCorner
@TomsCoffeeCorner 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Biggles, I agree with you on those points! It was the cheapest dual boiler I could find, and it is made of high quality. But I wish it had 58mm and a rotary pump. I really wish it had preinfusion. It is getting hard to find parts for this machine now...
@Radio4ManLeics
@Radio4ManLeics 2 жыл бұрын
@@TomsCoffeeCorner The Spaziale Dream addresses most of those issues, whilst keeping the same styling and front loading water tank, and the pre-infusion -standard on the plumbed in model - is progammable on the plumbed-in versio. The shot counter, timer and on-off device is now in-built. And the basic, early 1980s style control panel has been upgraded to a terrible late 1980s monochrome LCD display! The Lucca A53 is even better, but only available in the USA ( bargain at only $2,000! ). If I could get the A53 Lucca over here in UK I'd have that definitely on my short list for domestic usage without the esoteric messing about of infinite tweaking that comes with most prosumer machines. And getting worse with Pressure Profiling. When does it all stop and just gets to be about The Coffee!?? Great shot in the blind PF btw. I could almost taste it from here. Amicalement,
@TomsCoffeeCorner
@TomsCoffeeCorner 2 жыл бұрын
@@Radio4ManLeics Hey Biggles! Thanks for your insightful comment. You know, I don't mind the look of the control panel honestly. I like a touch display, but only if it is done with taste. I do wish this Mini Vivaldi had preinfusion, and I would have preferred a rotary pump for the slickness of it. But anyway, the problem with this machine is that there are fewer businesses selling them, used parts are drying up, and I don't know what is going on with the company. I tried contacting them about a spare O ring, but never got a response. So I think for my next bigger machine, I am going to look to another manufacturer.

Hey J! The portafilter has to be locked in extremely hard, to avoid any drippage. I am not sure why, as the gasket is still in good condition. portafilter size is a deal breaker. Also, i believe when you run it at 15 amps, its not a true dual boiler since you can only run one boiler at a time since it is in eco mode!
@TomsCoffeeCorner
@TomsCoffeeCorner 2 жыл бұрын
I know that 53mm is a little annoying, but on the other hand Breville/Sage use 54mm, and they are hugely popular. It took me a long time to find an affordable 53.3mm tamper, though. I have a European unit, so I think it runs at 20 ams, but no matter what, the steam boiler only heats up for 5-10 seconds anyway...it really wouldn't need to heat up during an espresso pull. Thanks for your feedback! Cheers ☕️
@PaulLemars01
@PaulLemars01 2 жыл бұрын
In the US, if you have commercial 20A receptacle at the wall you can switch the machine to run 20A which will heat both the brew and steam boilers simultaneously. Most domestic receptacles are 15A so you flip the switch and the tanks run serially. It most certainly is a dual boiler since both boilers temps/pressures are maintained independently. Boiler heating is not an issue. I never notice one boiler waiting on the other one other than initial startup. As to the portafilter I've very quickly come to appreciate the deeper design since puck prep is very much easier/quicker and channeling is a thing of the past.
@TomsCoffeeCorner
@TomsCoffeeCorner 2 жыл бұрын
@@PaulLemars01 Interesting point about channeling. I worked in a fancy, high output cafe, and their Dalle Corte was I believe also a 53mm. We just shot the grounds in real quick, tamped with a Puq, and put it in the machine real quick - no puck prep at all. Maybe the smaller diameter combats that.

Ok question. I can get this machine with a Eureka mignon specialita and a barista kit for £1800. Is there a better set up for that price range about?
@TomsCoffeeCorner
@TomsCoffeeCorner Жыл бұрын
Well for that price you have a lot of options! I found the Vivaldi kind of finicky. I'd probably choose something else the next time around. The Specialita is great, though!

@TomsCoffeeCorner

Dosing depends on the basket, so if the basket calls for 16 grams, then use that. I had single, double and triple baskets with mine, but I've since sold it.

@@TomsCoffeeCorner thanks! The machine had the 53mm commercial baskets and the 16gram dose was super friendly. It was all a success. I came away very impressed by the machine. Easy to dial in, it had the line level pre-infusion too. Very cool experience. What did you replace the machine for your daily driver needs?

I installed the preinfusion chamber today, how do I know it's working?
@TomsCoffeeCorner
@TomsCoffeeCorner Жыл бұрын
Good question! I don’t think it is so obvious on this machine, but you should notice a difference in taste. The extraction should be in my opinion more well-rounded when their pre-infusion is working properly. As far as I understand, that pre-infusion chamber gets filled up and then slowly releases the water pressure on the virgin puck. So it’s not just a starting and stopping at the pump like most machines.

how long does it take to warm the machine up? how to turn it off for the night?
@TomsCoffeeCorner
@TomsCoffeeCorner 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Antonia, warm up time is 10 minutes until the brew and steam boilers are at temp, but it pulls better shots if you wait at least 30 minutes, for the group head to warm up. At night, I just turn it off, and have it turned on by a timer. 👍🏻

Sorry but this is not volumetric dosing, it's time dosing. So if you change the grind size or even the coffee type the dosing will give different results. Only the rotary pumps are able to give volumetric dosing and generally speaking the expensive machines.
@TomsCoffeeCorner
@TomsCoffeeCorner Жыл бұрын
That's not true. Even super cheap machines like the Dedica have a water wheel which counts the water passing through.
@dnkzs
@dnkzs Жыл бұрын
@@TomsCoffeeCorner I'm afraid you are wrong at this point. It uses time measurement not volumetric. "Most machines do go by time, which means "run the pump for (x) seconds" and as you note, can have varying effects depending on grind coarseness, tamp, etc. However, there are also "volumetric dose" machines, which use a flow meter to measure how much actual water was moved through the system. The latter is common on higher end consumer and commercial equipment."
@philindeblanc
@philindeblanc 8 ай бұрын
I just cleaned the Gicar flow meter on my Vivaldi II, it is measuring the volume. It has a screen inside that can get plugged up with hard water. Using a softtner prevents this scaling and buildup. So if this wheel inside is doing volume, as I think it is, Tom is correct, its volumetric. Keeping that clean, and it should be accurate.@@dnkzs

That's a great testament to the machine if your only complaint is the font on a couple of buttons. 😂 i think the line of machine was introduced about 20 years ago, and comic sans was all the rage. Kinda makes me nostalgic for Win98.
