I finally got the TomTom vid done!... So here is a rundown of its functions and some footage of how it performs on the road. Cheers! #tomtom #tomtomrider #tomtomrider400

BTW I've read about a lot of people having grief with the rider. I basically need one that's waterproof, can find gas and camping grounds.
@billy4rocks7 жыл бұрын
Jakob Borg Andersen Well ive had no such issues regarding waterproof-ness... and you can choose to gas and im pretty sure campgrounds as your P.O.I. Cheers.

Top notch review ol lad... I'm seriously thinking about buying the Rider 400 but I'm torn between the Garmin equivalent.
@billy4rocks6 жыл бұрын
Cheers Tonyt, Ive heard good things about the Garmin, its just that i had the old tomtom rider before, and it was great, never let me down, so i thought id stick to what i know.

Hi Bill, no need to shut down the device. just hold the top button for a second to put it to sleep. It just goes to black. This will last for a week or so or longer, not sure. push it again and the screen will turn on directly.

So from the menu I take it you can't add music to the SD card and listen to music?
@billy4rocks5 жыл бұрын
No, at least not with this firmware version.
@jprism16 жыл бұрын
My only big grip with the Rider 400 is that there is a menu choice fro Parking Lot and no choice for Food or Hotels. How many motorcycle riders are looking for a Parking Lot as opposed to looking for Food or Hotel. Yes I know you can get there by using Search but come on!
@billy4rocks6 жыл бұрын
Yeah it’s by no means perfect, it should be all things to all riders, considering the price. I think most riders including myself, use it purely for directions, and there phone for all the other stuff. Cheers.

Great video, does the reflection affect you.. Screen seems to be quite shiny
@billy4rocks7 жыл бұрын
MagicAyrtonforever thanks very much, honesty have not had an issue with it, even in direct sunlight, although there is some reflection, i can still read it ok, certainly better than an iphone screen thats for sure. Cheers.

Could do with zooming out from satnav a little, I bought one months ago but just putting on now

Cheers Peter, I was using a go pro, without the screen, so couldn’t really gauge focus, or position. Thanks for the comment.

Can you put in a postcode in to the Tom Tom rider 420 ?
@billy4rocks4 жыл бұрын
Hello Nigel, if memory serves me correct then yes, you can. I have long since sold the tomtom (regrettably) so I cannot give a definite answer im afraid.

Many thanks for taking the time and trouble to do this - I'm just about to buy one of these. One question concerns me though: how do you find the screen performs in bright sunlight (assuming you've had any...)?
@billy4rocks7 жыл бұрын
ZioN DannY No problem, your welcome. I actually did a long ride last weekend with it in bright sunshine, and although the screens brightness is diminished slightly, it's totally useable still and does not cause any issues whatsoever. Cheers.

Good video Billy. How easy is it to plan multiple waypoints to a destination?
@billy4rocks7 жыл бұрын
Cheers Phil, Pretty straight forward really, its gives you the option of adding "Via" points along a route before you finalise it.

Hello Bill. Does this Tom Tom need to be plugged into a power source while the ride or do you charge it at home and it will last the length of you ride?
@billy4rocks6 жыл бұрын
Hey Migdalia, i always have mine plugged into the bracket which is in turn plugged into to power socket on the bike, ive never tried it without but i would estimate it wouldn’t last more than an hour. Hope that helps!
@eachone016 жыл бұрын
billy4rocks Yes it does. I would have to wire power for the GPS then. Thanks
@bigg165 жыл бұрын
how is the glare from sun on the screen?
@billy4rocks5 жыл бұрын
Garth Vader never had an issue with it, even without a light guard.

Good vid. but you didn't actually show us how you planned the route. This would be helpful

Hello Billy. I got my Tom Tom 400 Rider a month ago. I can not get it to stay connected to my Sena 20s head set. It connects to my iPhone then on the screen of the Tom Tom it says connected to head set then not connected then connected then not connected. This goes on the length of my ride. I have checked all blue tooth connections all are fine. Not sure what to do now. Great videos Billy keep it up. Ride Safe. Kind Regards Willie ( Belfast )
@billy4rocks7 жыл бұрын
Hey Willie, that's odd, is your tom-tom and iphone software up to date? That should resolve and issues hopefully. Thanks very much for your kind comment, much appreciated. Cheers.
@MercedesBenzAndrei7 жыл бұрын
hello, go to the iphone seting -> bluetooth and delete the sena 20s head set . and done ....
@LostStylus7 жыл бұрын
Do you use it without sound? Is it usable without it?
@billy4rocks7 жыл бұрын
Hey Loststylus, There are times when i don't use any sound at all, if for example the headset has ran out of power on the helmet, Its totally use-able without sound, just means having a quick glance down every so often and not using an audible prompt to look at the screen. Hope that helps, and i hope you find your stylus.
@williammcmahon85647 жыл бұрын
Billy. Can you please help. My new TomTom 400 rider will not connect to my iPhone at all, also it will not stay connected to my Sena20s for more than two seconds at a time. I feel it is a complete waste of money. William ( Belfast )
@billy4rocks7 жыл бұрын
Hey William, that is curious... there are no such problems with my iphone, Ive done a bit of digging around for you and its not uncommon apparently, One fix is to make sure your Operating system on both the tomtom and your phone are up to date. Obviously also make sure your devices are searchable. Hope that helps mate.
@williammcmahon85647 жыл бұрын
Many thanks Billy will try as you say. Great videos. Thanks again. William ( Belfast )

William. No worries at all, hopefully that will sort it for you. Thanks for watching and the kind comment. Cheers.

Have you tried updating the maps yet? Bloody nightmare, took me ages trying to get the computer to recognise it then it wouldn't connect to the tom tom update page & when it did I lost all my maps 😡
@billy4rocks7 жыл бұрын
Hello Lee, it was one of the first things i did when i bought it, I didn't have any issues, connected via the tomtom app on an imac, unless they have changed it since then. Some of these tech companies have a reputation for "improving" the software and in turn making it worse. Cheers.
@letsreviewit89255 жыл бұрын
Great video, I ended up buying the Rider 42 and am suitably impressed. Have you tried the 500 or 550 series at all? I reviewed mine this week: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/m7Okh7CCtNmzfIE.html and am looking to compare it to the newer versions.
@blacktiger955i7 жыл бұрын
Tomtom rider 400/410 is absolutely useless compared to a 10 year old Garmin Zumo550. The tomtom's processor is so slow it sometimes take so long to respond to a touch that you touch the screen again just as it changes from the first touch. ARGGGG! Also look up the rain droplets problem. A motorcycle satnav that has a screen that is activated by rain?? Come on. I sold mine on ebay. Total rubbish.
@billy4rocks7 жыл бұрын
Ive heard of this rain issue, and can honestly say ive never had a problem, someone else mentioned it on here as well, my only thought is that there was a dodgy batch made? I dont know, but so far im pretty pleased with it, no lagging issues either, as you can see in the vid. Mine is tucked close behind my screen and is tilted slightly down if thats of any useful info. Cheers.
