After years of controversy about and conflict between the Owners of the Tonawanda Coke Plant and surrounding communities, the final structures came down, safely, at the site on Saturday, June 5, 2021. Controlled Demolition, Inc. (CDI) of Phoenix, Maryland, USA, working for the Main Demolition Contractor, Ontario Specialty Contracting, Inc. of Buffalo, New York, CDI felled one (1), 230’ tall, reinforced concrete coke battery chimney, one (1), 270’ tall, reinforced concrete boiler house chimney, and one (1), 275’ tall, radial brick boiler house chimney. The project was coordinated with environmental consultants and regulators and safely completed to the satisfaction of all.

The CDI videos just never disappoint - maybe the ones that went wrong are not shown (makes sense 😜) but every demolition here on KZfaq looks flawlessly executed 🙏

It would be neat to see photos taken a month later to see the sites cleaned up. Also, how much of the debris is able to be recycled?

There's a school around me that had a chimney about half this height, and they just took it down piece by piece. (They didn't destroy the school around it, lol.) Took them close to two weeks. What a difference...

This company was shut down because of environmental violations numerous times. Feel sorry for the workers who lost their jobs. But corporate cut corners n caused this. Look up Tonawanda Coke.
