This 2005 Bad Cat Tone Cat is a very rare amp from the glory days of Bad Cat. The Tone Cat is not just a 2 channel amplifier, it is actually two completely separate amps in one chassis! The “Clean” side is the same as the 12AX7 channel on a Black Cat (think DC30) and the “Gain” side is the dirty side of a Hot Cat, which offers complex driven and crunchy lead tones. The two sides can also be mixed together and the order can be swapped as well. There are tones galore in this amp and it will have me exploring it for a long time to come!

The “Black Cat” / Clean side of the Tone Cat. These presets are designed to be my go-to all around presets for a variety of guitars but sound particularly good with humbuckers. These presets are dialed in a touch brighter than my AC30, Clubman and Prosonic.

*The Clean “1” Presets are not unique Tone Models so you’ll only find the “1” captures as “Presets”. I took the “2” Tone Model and turned the Gain down and turned the Model Volume up to compensate.

Well, to be fair, all the sounds you're hearing in this video are my analog board run into dual ToneXs but the QC sounds incredible as well. I'll get a video up soon about just the QC.

You got it Jesse! I think the compressor is great if you're trying to use the Tonex as an all-in-one solution (or at least with minimal post-amp fx). The compressor can also be used verrry subtly for certain purposes on a traditional board, but I'd say the best practice for a true hybrid rig is to keep it off.

To me, the individual algorithms don't feel wildly better. Kinda disappointed there. BUT, the dual mode (reverbs in parallel) is really really cool. I've not played with it enough but the few presets I made I really really like. I could see myself using dual/parallel verbs nearly exclusively once I dial more of those in.

It sounds like I’m at an “Elevation” Worship Summit with that cavernous reverb and delay engulfing everything in its path. I like Reverb and delay as much as anybody.......or so I thought. I love BadCat amps. And this particular fairly rare model in particular. I was hoping to hear the amp put through it’s paces. But I was mistaken. I have no idea what that beauty of an amp sounds like because it “really” can’t be heard. In all I much prefer the BadCat/Celestion speaker and I personally prefer about 90% less reverb - especially if I’m trying to determine how good an amp sounds. I have not so rapidly concluded the purpose of this video is definitely NOT to showcase the amp and its awesome tone. It’s to showcase some other sound platform. The amp is rare. The sounds being demonstrated are not.
