Essences and toners and tonics, oh my! We often see so many variations of these skincare items in everyone's skincare routines, but oftentimes the concept and usage between them become blurred and you're left asking yourself: what even IS the difference, which do I need, and WHY?!? So in today's video, I'm breaking down the difference between each thing, what purpose they serve in a skincare routine, and WHY you'd potentially need them/what benefit they could give your skin, depending on your skin type!

I've been seeing this movement in the skincare community of saying your dont need toners or eye creams. I get it but as a dry skin type I really enjoy doing this steps especially after a hard working day. It feels like I'm treating myself 😆

Oh I’m ALLLLL about the TLC. The most BASIC routine is the cleanse/moisturize/protect routine, but depending on your skin type, adding more in really allows you to customize (have it your way!). But also I came from the era of needing a million serums and products and I dropped major money on so much stuff that looking back I’m like ‘I wish SOMEBODY would’ve showed me the light’

Hello Elisa! Kit wise, a few brands have sets you can get. That being said, maybe start with an essence since you have oily skin; less layers could be better underneath sunscreen and makeup. That secret key one I mention a lot it divine.

That was highly informative, Ramón. My skin dried out like Death valley's Bad Water Basin. 😒 And I ordered the Pyunkang Yul Essence Toner just before you dropped this video. Have you tried that one?

Hii, I've got a question and I hope u can help me :) I've heard from a few platforms that the "I'm from rice toner" is also a essence. But the problem now is, i want to use to I'm from mugwort as a essence AFTER using the I'm from rice toner, do u think that's okay?

I am searching for a good toner that is hydrating. My skin is so dry but I live in the desert and have heard that hyaluronic acid can actually be drying in a climate that is so dry. Want to avoid fragrances but other than that open to trying whatever will be good for my skin.

Great question. You can use HA in an arid climate, just make sure you’re pairing it was a moisturizer also full of humectants so that the HA can essentially use those humectant factors to pull from. For example, the Neutrogena Hydro Boost moisturizer I always talk about has a bunch of humectant ingredients. Other humectants that are amazing too: glycerin, butylene glycol, sodium hyaluronate, etc. Hada Labo Goku Jyun lotion is a strictly hydrating toner that’s fragrance free. You need such a small amount to really take advantage of the hydrating benefits. The key is, again, pair with a moisturizer

What do you think about Sunday Riley’s pink drink and Tatcha’s essence?

Pink Drink looks interesting but I'd need to look into it. Tatcha is a brand who makes cute products, but they're very expensive for what they are. Their essence looks like it offers nice hydrating and skin nourishing benefits for sure, but not for $95

hii :) ive been using this rice "essence" with basically the same ingredients as the im from one..but idk if its necessary :(( i put the ingredients in cosDNA and other sites, and they said the ingredients are osotly just emollients ugh idk

Hey Toni! I use it generally AFTER toning, in my serums steps. If my skin is REALLY going through it, I'll use it right after cleansing, then all the rest of my skincare (toner, essence, moisturizer) on top.
