Rear differential needed approximately 2.5 quarts of 80w90 gear oil to refill..
@rollin18wheels3 ай бұрын
How did you get 2.5 qt to fit? I couldn’t get more than just over 2 qt, like about 2 1/8 quarts was all mine would hold and even then it was pouring out of the fill plug
@Nate0514Ай бұрын
@@rollin18wheels Read on some forums that it's between 2 and 2.5 qts. Just depends on the different models of each diff I'm assuming.

What about the vent and tube? Good time to check those. Also, Dino oil might not be the best to use. Valvoline 75w 90 semi or full synthetic can help in the winter as well as give you slightly better MPG. Dino if you haul or pull a lot of weight regularly. 75W 90 if you mostly do traveling with light to no load.

I always apply rtv to mine. For some reason, when I only use gasket, I get a leak. Great video!

When you apply rtv in addition to a gasket, where are you applying it? Just to the cover? Thx

Can you use 75w-90 fluid? According to research this fluid is better than 80w-90.

Great video, thank you for it. Does anybody know how to loosen the fill plug? Bloody thing is stuck. Don't have room to get it with a breaker bar, hit it with WD-40 still no luck.
@tongo117 Жыл бұрын
If you have a propane torch you could heat the plug to expand the metal..

Do you got any problems with the gasket till now. Or ist it possible to use both , rtv in combination with a gasket.

It's been a little over a year and no leaks using just the gasket.. You can use RTV but there's a special one made specifically for differentials:www.amazon.com/Permatex-81182-Gear-Gasket-Maker/dp/B0023GM2KK?th=1

The old gear oil was there for how long? 60k miles?

At least 8years and 55k.. Before that I don't know.. Different owner.. Truck had 152k when I did the change..

Was that anti-sieze on the fill bolt, or locktite? Or was it just whatever was leftover from whoever used rtv? 😂
@tongo1175 ай бұрын
I had not noticed that but yeah, if you freeze at 00:39 there's red on the threads.. You may be right, some type of anti-seize.. Not sure though..
