Toni is a contralto, she can hit low notes (and the high ones, even though most of contraltos can't). But this vocal color are not thaaaat common, the most of the pop singers are light sopranos, that's why they try to do high notes (:

I was a 7 year old girl who lost her brother to suicide and when it got dark, i turned on my cassette player and duck into my pillow, literally cried myself to sleep. Night after night. This song changed my life. I didn’t know how to out my emotions till this song crossed my path and this song learned me at a very young age that your soul can heal or break just by listening to the right song. Toni, when this came out I was homeless, on drugs, and then jail. I now have a house, job, and husband. This song and “Clover Cage - In the Moment” are the two songs that helped get rid of my depression. I just want to send love to everyone and I want everyone to know things will get better. I found out my husband was having an affair the day before our 1st child. He said goodbye to me. This somehow became our 'get back together song' in 1996. We went on to have another child....he was the best dad. He died at 53, almost 4 years ago, it would have been our anniversary. I listen to this song with such mixed emotions.....it's so beautiful and strong, yet so heartbreaking. 👁♥️U

It doesn't hurt anymore, but on Dec 11, 1989 I lost someone I loved very much to a street bike accident. The fact that this video starts out this way has always had meaning. Such a beautiful voice, such a beautiful song. Toni is one of my favorite artists!

I too would be in bed while my mother would play this... She was heartbroken over who I believe was the love of her life... He went on to marry... Still my mother and him remaining frenemies... There wasn't a label back in the day. I listen now from my own adult perspective, Toni Braxton is a beautiful woman & singer.
