I have so many questions. Do you have in-door plumbing? How is all the other "waste" treated?
@jlm33036 ай бұрын
@@xarzu waste is pumped into abandoned water well and left to freeze... it will eventually reach the ocean in maybe 10, 000 years or so.. really not an issue tho.. there are many ways that sea life will breakdown bio waste.. It's waste that doesn't breakdown that causes problems for the environment.

How does this video only have 13k views is criminal. This is what I want my daughter to see... It shows two cool people, being professionals, but also human and chilling together. It's not a crafted pr schtick, or any agenda behind it... I want my daughter to think she live at the south pole for a while, do good work and chill with cool people.

Aww thank you for that. I actually sent this to Toni so she could appreciate your comment

I'm not sure if the phrase "chilling together" there, "down there" ("literally" ;-) conveys the same feelings and carries the same emotions as it does here... ;-)

Cozy allright, but there's a rather long walk to the nearest pub, unfortunatelly... ;-) And if the doctor told you "no more than one beer a day!" you're [____] up, I'm afraid : )

That station completely fascinates me - I think it's the efficiency and thought that has to get put into everything; I love the humanity that reveals itself when you depend so much on interpersonal cooperation.
@amythistxue17 ай бұрын
yeah just the logistics must be crazy as it might be literal months between chances to get resupply from the outside so you need redundancy/replacements for everything essential or ways to make it on site, and when you are talking everything from hyper specialized scientific equipment to the heavy machinery used to move snow/cargo to food/clothing for all the people on the site

No compost or methane digesters for waste on station?
@JoeSpinstheGlobe2 жыл бұрын
It's an interesting idea, but no. I imagine no composters because it would only save space; the compost would still need to be shipped out. The methane digester would have to be fairly small-scale, but they would have to build out a system to utilize the methane somehow.

What about the poop? Does that get hauled out too?
@jlm33036 ай бұрын
No... it's pumped into abandoned water well... they have to relocate the wells periodically when the well becomes to difficult to sustain... at that point its the perfect place to dispose of human waste.

She didn’t assign herself that number, the organisation does. Because it’s insane that she’s only the two hundred and whatever woman to have wintered there, when there have been more than 1300 men. That’s why the organisation does issue the women those numbers, because it’s still remarkable.
