Tons of locomotives waiting to be rebuilt

Lots and lots of old GE dash 9’s waiting to be rebuilt at the Wabtec plant near Ft Worth Texas.

Crazy that the UP AC44CWs won't be the same anymore. Gonna miss the "baby shield" ones. Those were always cool to see.

Well not only there are dash 9s. There are ac4400cw waiting to be rebuilt into a ac4400cwm which the m is modernized.

Something I never really thought about before I had personally experienced it. If the frame is solid on just about any vehicle, be it truck, car, plane or locomotive it can be rebuilt. Oftentimes for a variety of reasons rebuilding just makes more sense than buying new. Could be “getting around “ new regulations or simply replacing worn out systems, ( which it turn can usually be rebuilt).

Emissions regs are putting these engines out to pasture…the diesel motors in these locomotives are dinosaurs ….setting them out by the hundreds ( rather than scrapping them ) keeps them providing tax benefits to the railroads…

These particular units aren’t being put out to pasture. Just getting rebuilt and modernized.
