This is the best thing about skating back in the day. I grew up in Santa Barbara around the Powell Factory and there was a big scene there. Dudes would just come together at some random ramp or wherever we can find a half-pipe and we would just go. At 10am, something seemed impossible. We were all just taking turns going at it. Dudes slammed, got hurt, some had parents have to take them to the hospital. But by 4pm, we were doing the impossible every turn. I learned a lot about determination and never giving up through skating. Love it!

I have this thing with self determination too, when i put my mind to something and i also think i have skateboarding to thank for that. Skated from '89 to about '96. You simply can not learn skateboarding without falling down & gettiing back up on your feet a zillion times over. No way around it. Every skater is a very self determined person, no way around it.

Wildtard Just stand on it in the grass or something so the board doesn't roll to get your balance right. Then when you're confident enough to go on the pavement, push with your back foot and lean on the board with your front foot. Put most of your weight on your front foot, because if you don't, the board will go flying out in front of you. Don't lean to foward though, or else you'll eat the sidewalk... But look up tutorials on KZfaq on how to push and get your stance and stuff, Braille Skateboarding and RIDE Channel both have really good tutorials. And when you get better, they have more complicated stuff too.

When I was staring down tho, all i thought of was being at the end of it and going for it. So I did and didn’t fall off! The way I think is, if you fall...you fall. In skating it’s going to happen. And also, don’t think about it. Because if us idiot humans thought about every move we made...:we probably would change our minds. But we are scared lol

I think but only hypothesize since I have only ever broken body parts on a skateboard....but it appears that the intense shift in relative or apparent gravity is very difficult to keep a cool head with, so one guy (the guy who ate it bad!) fully drew in legs...and it took several dry runs for EVERYBODY to learn to keep their body straight up and down, STIFF...in order to stay on the whole loop. So dangerous...yet so well executed with a great team!

Nak tura 1. I said much more softly, not softly, big difference. 2. Barely touched the pad? It literally flips him 180 degrees, watch the video again and you'll see he would've landed on his feet, his rotation was still slow enough for his feet to touch first before his feet touched the pad.

Ironically, for the kid, the mat that was supposed to protect him made it worse. He was primed to land nicely on his feet but it turned him by his leg and with the added rotational force he smashed his shoulder into the ground even harder.

Caballero often looks like he's hunched over. I believe his spine has some curvature to it and he's had to contend with that for his whole life. Doesn't seem to affect his skating though. Very approachable person as well - I got his autograph back in the 1980s.
