About I Dream Of Jeannie: Barbara Eden and Larry Hagman star in this classic ‘60s comedy about a genie and her master. When astronaut Tony Nelson is forced to crash-land on a remote Pacific island, he finds a strange bottle that's washed ashore. When he opens it, out pops a genie named Jeannie. Not only does she get him back to civilization safely, she also smuggles herself aboard the rescue plane. Jeannie becomes Tony's constant companion. But though she happily grants his every wish, she causes more than her fair share of trouble.

Any other seasons him knowing and telling made perfect sense. Not at this point though. He could have learned ro handle it. It would have been fun to see him helping them keep the secret from NASA and Amanda (at first). And in a pregnancy and powers that run amuck, there could have been some good seasons following this.

@RoseMarie J.R.’s brother Bobby was retconned back on the show in the closing shot of the season 9 finale. In season 10, the entire season 9 was revealed to be Pam’s dream. I think Patrick Duffy wanted to come back to the show or something, after Bobby had been killed off. Soap operas used to do this sort of thing all the time, but the dream device was unique, and I bet it was suggested by Larry Hagman, because of this episode of IDOJ. If this clip is all you’ve seen of the IDOJ episode, then you may not know that after Dr. Bellows sees Jeannie go in and out of her bottle, Tony wakes up and realizes he’d dreamed the whole thing.

This was probably a pretty cheap episode to produce, compared to others anyway. From what I remember, the whole episode takes place in the Nelson house, and only the 4 regular cast members have lines. The 2 uncredited astronauts pop in for a brief time and say nothing. The only thing from the show that looks somewhat expensive is the old movie-viewer where Jeannie showed Dr. Bellows clips from past episodes, and the clips were cheap to recreate too.

Even though this was a dream he really didn't have a reason to quit the Air Force. Major Nelson just assumed he would have got kicked out of the Air Force or he had to leave.

It shouldn't have been explained as a dream, they should have made it real and factual that Dr. Bellows for once and for all accepted Genie as fact!

This was the last episode filmed. But NBC was going to renew it, and mistakenly put the episodes out of order, (before that, they probably had a scene already ready to film, probably a scene involving Bellows with his wife discussing the events he saw, or could be anything) meaning that they had to film the last few minutes of the episode as a dream, as the episode did not fully finish the 24 minute mark.

It was also a clever way to retcon Bobby Ewing back on to ‘Dallas’ after he’d been killed off. Had to be Larry Hagman’s idea.

this clip is an object lesson in how difficult it is to convince some of what the truth actually is. lots and lots of folks 'believe what they want to believe'.

Like Larry Tate on "Bewitched", it was fitting that Dr. Bellows finally learned the truth. Only at the end, though - otherwise you lose the entire "explaining weird situations" plot point.

@@0megacron In a way I Dream Of Jeannie was like Mr. Ed. It seemed only Roger Addison (later Gordon Kirkwood) caught Wilbur talking to Ed. Wilbur had to come up with every cock-and-bull story to lie his way out of his shenanigans.

Dr. Bellows should never find out about Jeannie. Sure, he's a good boss and a good friend. But once he finds out, Tony loses his job. Besides, it's way more fun when he's in the dark. 😁

A Jeannie-Bewitched crossover would have been awesome! Tony and Darrin could've compared notes about being married to magical ladies. Jeannie and Sam could've shared stories about their friends from history. Better yet, a wife swap episode!
