We get asked if a Bush Hog is better than a flail mower all the time. This is a follow-up video on the TITAN Attachments offset flail mower. We the flail mower work a little more. We also talk about a quick attach PTO adapter made by Small Farm Innovations. Both of these products are groundbreaking making life easier. We are testing an offset ditch flail mower from Titan Attachments. I still think the Bush Hog has its place as a rough and tough mower that can be backed into stuff, so I don't think one is better than the other. They just have different jobs.

That pto adapter was definitely easier to install than the other one you installed awhile back. Those flail mowers are tough. They are almost the same as a mulcher head. The planer knives/ hammers are fix mounted on the mulcher and flail mowers pivot. Both designs are impressive at what they achieve and the finish is always good especially with planer knives being used.

Good morning Tony! Thanks for the great demo on the ditch bank mower. Really effective equipment if you have the need on your property. I researched them quite a bit a while back and found that many compact tractors are not designed or built to carry that much weight or the forces of energy of a heavy ditch bank hanging out the side of the 3 point. I believe Tim also did a video on it and came to the similar conclusion. Perhaps if you were interested, maybe you can discuss with Titan and do a video on what someone needs to consider before buying one. In other words, how would I know that my tractor is engineered to handle "X" size or weight of mower. Just a thought. Great video and thanks for sharing!
@TonysTractorAdventure
@TonysTractorAdventure 3 жыл бұрын
I may just do that. I insisted on the 4' flail. Each extra foot hanging to the side makes a difference. The environment it will be worked in is a big deal too. Steep hills require bigger and heavier tractors. I don't think I would recommend even this 4' for a subcompact tractor unless on flat ground. The T264 with loaded rear tires seems to be a solid fit.

Hey Tony! I just figured I got the same brand of flail mower you have. It's a 60in wide in my case and it has the gearbox offset to the flail. So it gets a further offset. I've used it today for the first time and it's really well made I must say. I've got the remotes controlled with a regular valve, so it's easier to control the movement. Thanks!

I am definitely in need of flow restriction. I think the next size up on has the gearbox off to one side further. They are well made.

I recently ordered the 65in ditch bank flail from Titan. Good to hear positive feedback on them. I'm a bit hesitant since they're on the budget end of the flail mower spectrum... but for the few times a year that I need one just can't justify getting a high end make/model. Thanks for doing a great job of videoing the mower and reviewing it!

Hi Tony, The PTO coupler is pretty cool. Unfortunately, for compact tractors running implements like rear snow blowers, chippers, etc. the PTO shaft is already so short, that fitting a device like this will likely not work too well. With your flail mower or a rotary cutter, the PTO shaft is much longer which will allow the use of a quick coupler. You flail mower is really awesome!

Nice review of the pto adapter. Doesn't your shaft cover have a hinge to swing it up for connecting the shaft? Mine does, maybe because it is green!
@TonysTractorAdventure

I think it is because it is older. I think all the manufacturers are moving to a solid shield for liability reasons. One of the new JD I saw the other day had a solid shield.

How do you articulate the mower? I get the 3 point is up/ down. How do you control 90⁰ to flat/ decline or offset. I added a rear remote set to my tractor but my hoe had its own controls. Did the mower come with its own control or are you using the auxiliary lever? I never see videos on what levers people are using.

@@TonysTractorAdventure Thanks for responding! I have an auxiliary hydraulics lever for my set of rear remotes. I bought a summit add on kit that toggles 1 or 2 or push button for both. Im guessing my auxiliary lever is for the rear remotes. It's held back with a factory hook lever. Not sure why but all I ever run was the hoe. Im guessing once the hoe is off I'll take that holder off and that'll be what I use. It didn't seem to set back to center with that holder off like i thought it would. This is obviously my first tractor and property Haha. I'm just learning here but I think that's the lever I'll be using. Since the hoe had its own controls I've never had to think about it really. Hopefully all goes well. Im reading some people have detents that need removed for the lever to return to center. I'll see as I go. Thanks again for your time

Would the T25 run the bigger and heavier 57" offset flail mower?
@TonysTractorAdventure
@TonysTractorAdventure Жыл бұрын
I wouldn't recommend it. It has the horsepower to turn it but that is way too much weight off to one side. It would make the tractor unstable and dangerous. Even with this small 4 ft mower, I have to be conscious of the slope.

I have one of a different brand but it looks almost identical. Mine is a 65". The problem I have with mine is that the top housing is too thin and it has been welded on numerous times. I am going to have to put thicker plate on it and gussets to make it stay together. I have also had issues with the bearings on the roller. I had to replace both of them within 10 hours of running and have replaced the bearing on one side again,
